Oldies but Goodies

Thought I'd give you a treat with some antique rugs.  In case you didn't already figure it out, I did pull the blue ear wool out and changed to purple.

Below is a rug the auction site listed as a Medallion rug from 19th century hooked on burlap with cotton and wool.  Original size is 27 x 66.  The auction sites don't always give all that information and sometimes they also give the location of the find.
Heart in Hands was hooked around 1875 and owned by Barbara Johnson.  The dimensions are 22 x 39.
Definitely naive style, below is a very large cat compared to the house.  There was no date given but dimensions of the rug are 23 x 42.  It is obvious the hooker loved that cat more than anything.
Horses and Riders below was hooked early to mid 20th century and measures 18 x 34.  I'm thinking this was the inspiration for a design  offered by Bev Conway which I always hoped to hook.
I am attracted to the geometric and scroll design below for color and interesting design.  Sure do love those faded and worn sections at the bottom.  That section of the rug had more use than the part above I'm guessing.  No other information was available.
This 19th century floral from Pennsylvania makes good use of the hit and miss style.  Even tho the entire rug is hit and miss the floral design doesn't get lost due to the contract of the border and center values.
Well kids, gonna go hook a bit on Spike.  Had an order for one today so drew that up and it is ready to go.  Hopefully Margaret will send me a photo when she's hooked it so I can share that with you.

Happy Monday.

  4. I could look at that first rug for a long time - so much detail. Also, I seem to be drawn to those hit and misses. Happy hooking.

  8. My favorite is Heart in hands. I just love it. It reminds me of a good Blogger friend of whom I haven't heard from in quite a while.
I figured you would change the ear on that dog too.
