April 15th I started hooking on the eagle and posted the first photo the next day. After taking this photo I see the narrow strip of wool in the eye needs attention as some of the loops are dropping between the other loops.
For the rug to be complete it needs to be bound and labeled. The binding has started but the label will be delayed until there are a couple more labels to fill a complete sheet of fabric coated printer paper.
The cotton flag tape I'm using to bind was gifted me by Polly Minick when doing work for her a few years ago. It was a Moda item called Flag Day Farm and when googled, it was not listed on the Moda site.
A new rug will be on my frame, the one I already drew in case I needed a quick relief from the Eagle. It is Spot the pup; I think he is cute as the dickens and hope to make it sorta scrappy.

And I have a special request to post some photos of dolls I used to make, so that will be an upcoming post too. Might even open up my bins to see what is left over from my vending days and post those with prices on my blog.
OH, I've been in touch with Polly Minick recently and learned she has some Patriotic rugs in the Country Home summer issue. Walmart didn't have the latest on the shelves yet. Am hoping she has some new patriotic designs in there.

My morning is getting away from me but I've got to run to buy some bottled water, then if it isn't raining might do a little yard work before the rain begins.

I did miss this post. How so cute that dog rug will be and I love that binding you got from Polly Minick. She is the reason I became a rug hooker. I saw her rugs in one of the magazines and that was all I wanted to do. I had never seen anything as cute as her rugs then. I will be looking for that magazine. I am so glad you said that. Your rug is beautiful. I love seeing how it turned out. You did that very fast.
ReplyDeleteYour Eagle looks Fantastic !!! What a Cute Pup to hook next !!!
ReplyDeleteI will look for that Country Home magazine , Polly Minick's summer rugs are really nice .
Nice here today after our first Heat Wave.....but the weekend could be damp .
Have a nice Memorial Day weekend !!!
I know you can't hear me but I am clapping and AAAH-ing over your handsome eagle!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don’t know why I am anonymous there. I came back to add I look forward to seeing your dolls
DeleteI saw on Laurie’s (Polly’s sister) Instagram account that Polly was selling some of her rugs. Just looked, they have all sold. No surprise there, I have always loved Polly’s designs! I was fortunate to take a class with her in Maine at Searsport Rugs, I’ve been a fan for years!!
ReplyDeleteYour eagle is so majestic. Awesome tribute for our 250 upcoming birthday. Cannot wait to see what you do with puppy. He is a good one too. Pleasing to the eye. Janice
ReplyDeleteThat binding is absolutely perfect for your 🦅 rug. What a beautiful rug for our great nation’s 250th.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your rendition of that primitive pup!
I bet you can sell a few dolls on your blog or Facebook. Then you can but more “much needed” wool…🤣🤣🤣
don't have your email address so only hope you come back to read here...will show some dolls in a day or two.
ReplyDeleteGreat binding for your eagle.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure I have a copy of summer country home I will have to look.

Your eagle turned out magnificently....and, yes! That binding tape is perfect. If you ever want to "hurry along" your label making, let me know. I'll give you the info for the (pathetic few) rugs I've finished and would like labels for. I'd pay for the fabric label paper, postage, as well as your time. (And trust me, there aren't many.) It will be fun to see what you make of Spot. I've not heard of "Country Home" magazine.
ReplyDeleteYour eagle looks fantastic! I'm glad you took the advice of your readers and made the legs a bit larger. The flag tape for the binding is a nice touch too.
ReplyDeleteQuestion - your post on the 14th (10 days gone by already?!) you said you re-drew the olive branches & lightning bold 3 times. Instead of drawing each time directly on the linen, would it work to draw them out on paper, cut them out, then move the paper around until you are happy? Curious, as I suspect I'd probably lose track of which lines to follow if I were hooking it, even if each attempt had a different color ink used.
Wow! Well done.
