ANTIQUE RUG SHOW

Luckily an auction house listed a couple rugs so have some new items to share.  This first one looks familiar so must not be its first time to be offered for sale.  The rug was hooked late 19th century and from the collection of Nancy and Gary Stass.  It measures 26.5 x 56.  There's too much 'in your face' bright red for me.  But do like the design.
A lion, one of my older saved photos with no info, not even dimensions.
Roosters dated late 19th to early 20th century (29 x 53.5) from the collection of Deb Fisher.
Shame this landscape below is so tattered; looks like a Canadian style.  A snow scene measuring 16 x 36.  No date was provided.
Next one caught my eye, listed as a white deer, circa 1900, measuring 26 x 34.5.  Deer are quite delicate looking but the lines on this one is unusually delicate.  If I didn't have something on my frame think I would draw it up to hook before changing my mind.  Love its quirkiness and blotchy spots.
Saw this two deer rug at an antique show on FB and wish I knew more about it.
Black cats circa 1900 measures 26 x 46.
A chenille shirred floral circa 1830 (29.5 x 59).  Sure did maintain it's color and with just a little damage that I can see in the photo along the edge.
A dog hooked late 19th century measuring 31 x 45.
And lastly, a duck runner rug.  It is cute and reminds me of the shooting gallery at carnivals I remember as a kid and which we see in nostalgic movies.  Size is 24.5 x 81.5, circa 1910.
This evening before going to bed I'll put my dried black eye peas in soak overnight and prepare them for my New Year's eve dinner and even better the next day for New Years Day lunch.  It is a Southern tradition my mother did and one I continue~ not the hoppin' John recipe tho.  You  can read about the 'Good Luck' New Year's meal traditions of various cultures HERE.

  1. Wonderful rugs...but that white deer (???) is a bit strange! I'm sure you would do it great justice...as always.

  2. I hooked the first rug you showed ! I was given the pattern on burlap ...I forgot the name on that pattern , have to look that up !
We had two deer like the rug in our back yard eating the english ivy , they even ate it off the vines that grew on the trees ! As long as they stay away from my shrubs they can enjoy the ivy !!!

  4. Hmmm…. My head must be in a funky place. The white deer looks like a cross between a deer and a horse…and, in the dog rug, the rug looks like a cross between a dog and an anteater. But I do like the movement of the horse-deer….would love to see your rendition.

  5. I love that top rug. I always think I would love to hook one like it. I am finally hooking on my challenge rug. Life is still out of control but I decided come hell of high water I was going to work on it, I would really love to finish it by the first, but I don't know if I am that fast. I went back through your posts to see other rug. They are lovely. I love how each one is different. Thank you for the idea.

  6. So that’s what deer look like eh? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those 😂. (Just being silly)
Oddly, I like the ducks. Not sure just why, but they are cute.
    Happy almost New Year.
