Way back in April I started hooking a sunflower to make into a pillow for my DILs May birthday. Lost my momentum interest so gave her something else and decided to make the sunflower pillow as a Christmas gift with more months to work on it. The purchased pillow insert was too big so made my own with cotton fabric and leftover stuffing from the dollmaking days. So now all I have to do is stitch the opening closed and voila, a gift for the sunflower loving DIL.
I know sunflowers are a summer flower but her family gave her sunflower themed items last year for Christmas so I won't feel badly giving her this.
Make sure to ship your Christmas gifts early this year as USPS hasn't seemed to become any better. Remember the rug I sold and shipped on 11/12? It was shipped to Lafayette, Louisiana via Priority and delivery was estimated to be 11/15. I kept checking the tracking number but the USPS info seemed to be stalled at "delivery late 11/14 on way to next destination".
I contacted the USPS earlier this week asking if the package had been delivered. Thought perhaps it had been delivered but the postal person hadn't scanned the label to indicate it had been. Just this evening (10 days after shipping)Troy contacted me saying the rug had arrived and was nicer in person than the photo. Well of course I was ecstatic it arrived and more so he was happy. But why did it take 10 days????
While perusing various places for antique hooked rugs I came upon something which gave me pause and then a chuckle. It wasn't so much the 'speedy hooker' ad or the prices of the burlap for hooking rugs. It was the price of the look-alike Hartman hook for 20 cents for which we now pay up to $48. Unfortunately I don't know the date of this ad but wow the difference in price.
I've never been to a fortune teller for fear of what negative info they might provide, although don't think they'd give bad news outright. Have never had my hand read by a professional either. But I did try reading my own palm when discovering how to read your own palm.
To read either photo better click on the photo.
Windy, rainy and COLD outside. My heat just shut off and within a minute came back on It may have gone from heat pump to propane which is a warmer heat. Tomorrow might be a tad better but winter has just begun. Cover up buttercup.

Your sunflower pillow looks great and I especially love the centre. That wool is perfect for it. Your daughter in law will love it.
ReplyDeleteI once was interested in palm reading but I since learned that the Catholic Church does not allow it as it's a form of divination and divination is to be avoided as per the Bible.
It's still raining. I'm glad it's not snow.
Take care, hugs.

Your sunflower pillow turned out amazing!! Your DIL is absolutely going to love it and treasure it I'm certain. Don't get me started on USPS... Around here, one has to send things out a month in advance if you want them to arrive by a particular date...and I'm talking just letters and such - not packages. Why something has to be sent to a town 4 hrs away before it is delivered to a mailbox across the street is beyond me. Ahhh...palm reading. I believe there are people who have certain gifts...unfortunately, there are many more scammers. I did, however, have my palm read by a strange fellow on a river bank in Montego Bay and it spooked the dickens out of me. He told me of specific things in my life that he could not possibly have known and many of the things he said of the future have come to pass. Never will I do that again. ~Robin~
ReplyDeleteYour sunflower pillow is so pretty & perfect Cmas gift ! I an afraid to have my palm read or tarot cards !!! I don't want to know ! LOL
ReplyDeleteI will not go to a fortune teller, either. Never have. Never will.
ReplyDeleteSweet pillow. D-I-L will love it.
USPS. ARGH!!! I shipped a couple of my applique coverlet pieces. It took 14 days to get from northern Ohio to northern Florida. Totally unacceptable!!!
This will be a wonderful present for DIL. She will most enjoy it. I put the flannel sheet on our bed yesterday. Janice
