FINALLY BOUND

Dog with Basket finally got bound.  It was color planned by Lucille Festa at Rugs by the Sea in Cape May this past September.
In other news...an acquaintance asked me if I would repair an old rug her grandmother hooked.  Told her I'd have to see the rug first to see how big the repair was and see the type foundation.  Explained that with age burlap gets very brittle and any manipulation of the rug could cause more damage so wouldn't get involved in that.

Tuesday she came over with said rug.  Turns out it was hooked with wool yarn on what appeared to be rug warp.  You can see the areas needing repair in the photo below at the top and to the lower right.  I explained that I use wool fabric and she said she didn't care if it was fabric or yarn, she just wanted to save the rug.
In the photo below you can see I repaired some at the top but the very edge was too fragile to deal with and she said that section was placed under the bed anyway.  Still have to deal with the little empty spot on the lower right.
Seems I successfully repaired that spot using the hanging wool yarn below the rug.  And told her not to pass the word around that I repaired her grandmother's rug as I don't want more offers, lol.
Yesterday I was forced to turn on the heat as it was too cold in the house.  Tomorrow it is supposed to be a normal temp of close to 70 so will turn off the heat and open the windows.  But that too will be short-lived as winter is inevitable.

Now back to hooking on the Giant Flower.  What is on your frame?

  2. Love your dog rug, great design and color choices. The antique rug reminds me of ones my grandmother did.

  3. Well that seems that it did not take very long to bind dog with basket. The colors are perfect for this one. We are also getting back to the 70's starting today but like you, the damage had been done by turning on the furnace and we know Winter is around the corner. Plus lots of folks are saying we are in for a snowy one this year around my neck o the woods. We will see. Kudos for you on repairing that rug. You did a great job. I agree though, dont pass it around as you will have everyone coming to you and you will tire of doing it. It happened to me once helping folks repair fabric dolls....Bob would bring something home a customer would give to him and I got tired of doing it myself. I finally said no more. Janice

  4. Nice work on the binding and the rug repair. You did a fantastic job with wool color and size to blend in with the original yarn. I don't blame you on not wanting it passed around that you repaired the rug, especially if you did it for free.

  5. I really like Dog With Basket! AND I know what you mean about letting the word get out but you did a good job and helped save an old piece. I finally had to close the windows so mornings aren't so chilly. Something I used to not do before Thanksgiving. Just finished a rug so I'm in between. Grabbed a piece of linen and while at my RHooking group Wednesday I drew a bunch of random squares and rectangles to do a hit or miss type. But now I'm stuck of course on colors. I shouldn't be it's a stash buster but I can't help it.

  7. Hurray on getting your rug bound...perfect pop of color to tie everything together. I bet the person for whom you repaired the rug was absolutely tickled that you did it - and did such a great job with it. Not for the faint of heart. My heat's been on for a long, long, time. We are to get into the 60's today but there's always a wind that makes things chilly...and the nights are down right frosty. Happy Friyay Mummy D. ~Robin~

  10. GREAT finish on Dog with Basket. That didn't take you long.
I bet your acquaintance is beyond thrilled with your repairs. They look great and she must be so happy to have such a family heirloom.
I broke down and turned the heat on the other day, too. Dang! I hate the first time. We are having some beautiful days so I am crazy busy trying to clean up the flower beds. By this time of the year I am sick of yard work!!!
