Sheep at the Beach

Sheep at the Beach is the name of the pattern design given the 30th anniversary of Rugs by the Sea.   The last loop was pulled this afternoon, it has been steamed, now resting and waiting binding.

Recipients of this generous gift could make it into a mat, purse, tote, pillow, etc.  It was a basic sheep design so each could do our own thing.  But the name lends itself to indicate the sheep is at the beach.  The beach is only two blocks away from the Chalfonte, where classes are held.

As much as I wasn't looking forward to hooking it I'm so glad I did.
Below is the basic design gifted to each participant last September.  Except there were no exterior lines drawn since we could make it into any size.  I drew those lines 1" from the edge of the monks cloth to ensure my design didn't exceed that.

Wasn't sure what it was going to be but had planned to go 'small' to get it finished early.  As it turned out I used that whole space to end up with a mat measuring 12 x 16.
Here is a sample Norma sent to all the Cape May registrants of her design and invited us to hook ours in our own way and take it back to camp this September.
Plans are to do a still photo tutorial of how this one is bound on my next post.  Uh, when I get around to binding it.

A Bit of a Tease

In a previous post I told you about the Anniversary Sheep pattern which was given to each student last September at Cape May.  We were invited/encouraged to hook it and take to Cape May this September.

We could design it any way we wanted but think the sheep shape was a given.  We could make it into a pillow, purse, mat, wall hanging, etc.

I wasn't really 'feeling' the sheep and not fond of monk's cloth.  Yeah, it could be transferred to linen but didn't think even linen wouldn't have made me want to hook it more.   Not sure if I'd even finish it so thought to go ahead and use the monks cloth.

Don't get me wrong, that was a very generous and time consuming gift Norma and Linda provided to all the students in each class.  So felt it important I should hook the design in respect.  Besides all you followers know how I change my mind in a blink of an eye as to what my heart wants to hook.

Since Cape May is only two months away thought I'd better start early.
Here is what I've accomplished so far and it will sit on the sidelines until plans are decided on my next move forward.
One of the two species of turtles which reside on my property has reappeared to drink and wash it's itty bitty feet after today's rain.
Isn't it a beauty?  This one is an Eastern Box Turtle and has a high domed shell.  The other species I showed you in a previous post was an Eastern Map Turtle.
After the photo shoot and putting up with the paparazzi my Eastern Box Turtle disappeared under the periwinkle.

Happy Thursday to you all.

Still Pondering the Next Project

I've been wavering on what to hook next.  Would like to hook an antique adaptation but guilt is leaning toward the Cape May sheep challenge.  It was the 30th Anniversary of Rugs by the Sea gift to all students at Cape May last September.   A piece of monks cloth with a sheep and waves.

No perimeter lines were drawn as it was up to the hooker to decide if it would be a mat, purse, pillow, etc.  I drew the lines you see to ensure whatever I designed would have at least 1" for binding.
The packet even included wool, roving and yarn we could use or not.  It was a generous and time consuming project for Norma and Linda to give this gift.  That is why I feel compelled to work on it before September.

I'm not fond of monks cloth and thought of transferring it to linen...but that wouldn't make me want to hook it any more.
I've pondered several design ideas in my head during the day and while waiting to go to sleep.  But none of them seem very good to me.  Norma sent her rendition to students coming in 2018 and asked we design ours and bring them to camp.  This is Norma's great mat with locks, shells.
Sheesh, how does one compete with that?  I don't plan on winning any prize, I just don't want to hook a dumb looking piece to submit.  Hmm.... fear of failure Saundra????  Yup, goes way back to childhood days.

Meanwhile, I've still my Radiant Flower to bind (nope not done, lol) and have my eyes set on an antique adaptation unless I change my mind before it is drawn out.

BTW, not that you're keeping score... but after yesterday's post there was yet another thunderstorm with more torrential rain.  There were sprinkles today, tomorrow is supposed to be clear but with more rain on Wednesday.

Trying to stay sane here..... but thank GOD I don't let the bad stuff drag me into a rabbit hole.  I'm the type who will think of something positive out of the worse scenario.  For that I'm blessed.

Happy Monday and happy hooking, needle punching, quilting or whatever your pleasure is.
