If you thought I'd choose this one, you were right. Besides, it is "Year of the Horse" according to the Chinese Lunar calendar.
I've only recently begun hooking and wasn't sure if I wanted to hook a snowy ground or dark as in the antique. Afterall, a sleigh slides on snow. But a sleigh ride in the shadows has much more mystery and excitement, doesn't it? So Shadow Sleighride it is.
You will notice I reduced the depth of the ground by about 1" from the original antique. Not sure if I'll regret that or not but could always add a couple extra hooked rows later if I do. Something else bothering me is the disjointed lines behind the horse's neck. Am thinking it may have been intended as part of the rein system. So not sure how I'll handle that yet, but did draw it in.

I love this pattern. My husband came in while I was reading and he said, Wow I like that pattern! I thought that was nice. I look forward to seeing how you do shadow. What you have done so far looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh this will be Beautiful !!!
ReplyDeleteHaving grandparents who used working horses this does not look like part of the reins to me, except for in the rug the lines do show reins, so a mystery to me. You are off to a good start though and I agree keep it dark at the bottom. Janice
ReplyDeleteLove what you have been doing lately. The neutral tones are delicious.
ReplyDeleteOff to a great start!
ReplyDeleteI already love this...and the name "Shadow Sleigh-ride" is perfect. Great choice pattern and name-wise!
ReplyDeleteReins! Not reigns!
ReplyDeleteI read and re-read my post and comments by others and didn't notice the misspelling you pointed out. Where was it?
DeleteDear Anonymous, you were right. Despite my reading and re-reading my eyes didn't pick it up. A dear friend set me straight by sending me a message with the culprit circled in red, lol. It has since been corrected.
