That is the question I asked myself yesterday when working on my grandson's sports rug. The answer was no. Was having so little fun that in the middle of the afternoon when the temperature was 90 degrees went outside in the bright sunlight to trim a forsythia bush. After about half an hour later decided it might be more fun to hook inside on the Red Skins logo after all.
There's still a little more of the Redskins logo to hook in the white circle but once that logo is done it might be a little more fun. Looking at what I've done do see some changes that COULD be made ~ Uh, but choose not to. After all I'm not entering this into a competition or Celebrations. My grandson will recognize it as his favorite football team.
Thankfully the most dreaded part of the motif is hooked and for that I'm grateful. Only a little more of the white inside the motif, blue background and border.
Tonight I'll finish the motif and the tomorrow plan to have fun doing what I want to do.....working on a fun rug for me.
Thinking of a particular friend of mine and asking you to pull your butt up off the sofa, grab your hook, a rug in progress ` GET HAPPY with a glass of wine and a good video.
Hope you all have a good evening.

I love replicating antique adaptation rugs but also design my own. Looking at old rugs in Early American Life magazine was my inspiration to learn to hook.

I Need Another Break!!
Alrighty then....so I took a break to think about going forward with Ned. But now am getting bored with hooking background on my grandson's rug so need another break. Hey... you hookers must agree that background CAN get boring....right?? Between time I've considered options for the border of Ned and have a few ideas creeping thru my cranium.
Meanwhile, tonight I'll pull a few more loops on Zach's rug and tomorrow will work on Ned. One thing for sure (I think) is that Zach's rug will be done by Christmas. In the event I run out of the blue background I will shorten the dimensions of the rug to make it work.
Oh my.... soon the Red Skins logo needs to be hooked and it will be a more narrow cut than the Oriole logo. Now THAT is what I'm dreading. So once the Red Skins logo is hooked it will be easy sailing.
Have a great evening and GOD BLESS the police officers in DALLAS and elsewhere who rush toward the sounds of gun fire to protect the innocent and gave up their lives in the process.

Tuesday Chit Chat
There was a severe thunderstorm watch for my area and a few counties near there were tornado warnings which were in a path to pass me. Thankfully it was only high winds, lightening and rain for a few hours. Frankly, with what has been going on in weather and madness in the rest of the US am considering myself very lucky.
Anyhoo, here is an update on my grandson's Sports Rug.
I'm scared there may not be enough of the blue wool for the rest of the background ~ it will be very CLOSE. In the event that does happen I do have the notes used to dye this lot so can replicate it. However, there are variables which change the results.
Even the same water from my well will change the color of the dye job depending on drought or wet weather. Also, dye lots of natural wool purchased from the same vendor will have an effect on the results. But will deal with all that IF I run out of this blue.
On another note, today received an order for 18 patterns from my favorite person just when I thought that well was dry. Thankfully they don't have to be received until toward the end of July and no commitments. Of course it will bite into my hooking time but am thinking of it as making purse change to buy wool or patterns at rug camp in September.
The local weather indicated the storm just might turn around and come back. Yup. It is thundering and getting dark again so will have to shut this post down and turn off the computer.
Hope all is good with you and yours.

Beading at the Border
That beading could also be sweat beading on my brow as I struggle getting ready for camp, drawing MORE patterns and trying to purge the crap I've been collecting for years.
But this is about the beading on the Grandson's Favorite Sports Rug.
If you tap on the photo it will enlarge and is more visible as to the beading at the border. So far have only been able to hook the black and white plus the black and green on the right side.
My plans are to carry the black and white checkered flag evenly along the sides of the rug. Above the black and white beading is green and black. I plan to hook yellow next and keep the colors of the flag hooked in sequence until the black and white beading ends on the left side. That way the beading will carry the eye around the rug.
Looking at the rug just now I think Zach's name needs to be more bold. Perhaps even larger letters and then outlined with another color. Hmmm, will chat about this with my pal Deb at Barb's this weekend. Am sure she will have great ideas for me.
I know all of us in different parts of the world have our own weather issues. I'm sorry for you in Canada for the recent fires. In the US we also have our California fires, earth quakes, landslides, floods, tornados, etc. While none of those horrific weather patterns are happening here I am sick of the two weeks or so of rain.
Think positive and whatever your loss, just remember there is a new day when sun will shine again and the sweet smell of the rain when the sun shines. Hugs to all.

Favorite Sports Rug
Yesterday was Mother's Day and a bark from Ben alerted me there was someone who just arrived. Oh, my son Greg, Cathy and grandson Zach. At first I opened the door to let my son in and then in a panic.... OMG my grandson's sports rug is on the frame in that room and facing the door. Cathy was shocked when I said back up... you and Zach go outside. The pattern was grabbed up and hidden but now my grandson knows something is up with him that he can't see.
There is my progress so far. Yeah I know... not much to show. But remember this isn't due until December. Plus I'm getting ready for a rug camp and have loads of chores to do before I leave this weekend.
So, m'dears..... you see that black border? There are 3 rows of primitive dark/black of that and next row closest to the background will be a beading technique incorporating all the colors of the flags and the icon images below. Don't know about "beading"? Stay tuned and I'll give you a lesson later.
Have a great evening.

A Work in Progress
HUH? That title would indicate there really was some progress being made, don'tcha think? If only I can clear the hurdle of the checkered flag I'll be happy.
Interesting that I sent a link to my friend Deb and she suggested my hooking a grey on the checkered flag's underside. DUH!!!! Why the heck didn't I think of that??? After all, I did hook a yellowed white in the underside of the white flag. But maybe that should be changed to a light grey white too.
Ya see what I mean? I keep pulling loops, keep rehooking and soon I'm afraid that I'll have to hand stitch a patch of linen to the foundation to reinforce all the rips and rehooks.
SO.... before I pull out more white on the checkered flag am trying to decide if all the white under the curve should be the grey or just where it is now to indicate a shade in that area. Plus wonder how to hook the flip on the right side of the pole of the checkered flag.
Meanwhile, I'll finish the green flag and start on the others before tackling the white and checkered. Besides, there's also the border and background to keep me entertained until attending rug camp with Barb on another rug.
Still another rainy day on Tuesday and over a week of rain and I'm over it.

The Queen of Tweak
Actually that is a title dubbed me by my (our) blog friend Kim of Glass Half Full. While that title sounds somewhat elegant, I'm not sure it is deserving. I'll explain why after I post this first photo.
In the picture above when hooking the flag poles thought a good color would be black since there is black in the Oriole logo, Zach's name will be black and there is black in the Redskins design so would pull it all together . Hmm, not a good choice.
First the black is too bold against the yellow and white flag. Plus it makes it confusing against the checkered flag. SOOOO, the Queen of Tweak pulled out the black poles and changed it.
Guess I'm a slow learner on color planning but am more confident in this color choice now.
Must say that I'm not having fun hooking the checkered flag. While I know the flag is curled under, there's no way it will look like that after I hook it. But then..... this project isn't going to an art critic, it isn't being sent to Celebrations. It will be a gift to my grandson who will only see the black and white checkered flag used at Nascar. So CHILL Saundra!!!!
Do you believe tomorrow is May 1st?? Me either. We are midway thru the year of 2016 already and I'm just 2 weeks from leaving for a delightful rug camp with magnificent Barb Carroll. Contact her if you have a group of 5 or 6 who would like to attend a camp with her personally. OR.... if there are only two of you tell her you're interested as there may be 3 other people who would want to attend.
I can tell you that you have never encountered a better class with anyone ever than the small class you will have with Barb. There are many teachers I've loved and continue to take classes with. But at large rug camps there are 12 or so students in a class. With Barb, at her Woolley Fox retreat there are just a handful of students and we get special attention.
Have a great evening, happy Saturday!!!!

Are you Seeing Double??
Is something happening to your eyes? Do you see double images? That's because you are.
In a recent post, out of the blue, realized the Orioles motif was way off kilter. That meant re-drawing the image in another color and I chose red. Can you imagine hooking that b**ch while seeing double? Believe me when I say it was ...slooow going.
Most of my concentration has been on the Oriole but here is what my grandson's Favorite Sports Rug looks like now. At least it has been started and still have 8 months until the December "C" word a friend of mine has requested I not say.
As you can see there is a long way to go. Next I'll finish the checkered flag then move to the 6th flag to the right. Remember....hook what is on top first. Otherwise, if you were to hook the flag on the bottom it would distort the shape of hooking the one on top later.
There are no rules in rug hooking, only guidelines. However, there are certain tried and true techniques which work best. I've been fortunate to have learned from various teachers but also learn from experience on my own from mistakes and tweaking. Heck, you saw a huge lesson in this rug where my first drawing was WAY OFF.
Have a great evening.
