Thinking Beyond Horse and Scrolls

Have started thinking about what to do once Horse and Scrolls rug is hooked ~ actually there's still a bit more of whipped edge on Over the Moon yet left to do.  But binding is low on my entertainment and fun level so it will wait.

Am contemplating dusting off my knitting needles IF I can find them; the next hurdle would be if I remember how to cast on.  Not convinced it is like riding a bicycle because a couple years ago I tried casting on and had to find the 'beginner' book.  Then lost interest in learning to hook socks and stopped.  Will probably resort to those same beginner instructions if the 'like riding a bike' theory doesn't work.

I have lots of Icelandic Lopi left which I tried selling on ebay and since it didn't sell perhaps that was an omen that my knitting days weren't over. Below is a picture of the cap I think I'll attempt since I like the length.
These caps below look nice too but I don't want to 'think' about how many rows to add to make it longer ~ just want it as simple as possible....IF that is possible since my knitting mojo may be lost somewhere.
Dang, just remembered I haven't worn my Icelandic ponchos or sweaters I knitted after having them cleaned.  Next time I go to the grocery store that is what will be on me!!!!  Wool is WARM.

Here's my Icelandic Lopi stash. The first photo has tan and grey which would be my colors to use toward my face at my age and coloring but not sure if there is enough ~ will have to check the pattern.
There's lots of darker brown but don't want those at my face but would be good for the design.
Yet there's plenty plus of the white Lopi in balls which I have posted a picture of here and have some plates which aren't pictured here.  Think those plates are meant for spinning.
Hopefully I can get a new cap knitted for myself then will try once more to sell my stash on ebay.  Once I've exhausted my last knitting experience to hopefully a successful cap, will trade in my knitting needles for the Hartman Hook again.

Wool in Other Forms

Before becoming obsessed with rug hooking I was likewise addicted to knitting.  My very favorite wool yarn to use was Icelandic Lopi.  What was so cool hooking Icelandic sweaters is they use circular needles which makes the knitting quite simple.

For years I tried to teach myself to knit but couldn't get it.  My Icelandic friend said she could teach me how but I challenged her.  Katla said she knitted the European way not the American way.  OMG, she was right, I did learn and went from one project to the other.

Here are only two of the sweaters I knitted over the years, and of course using Icelandic Lopi.  Also knitted a few Aran cable knit sweaters which are around here somewhere.
And two ponchos I knitted, again with Lopi.
From her trips back to Iceland my friend Katla would bring over Lopi which I'd of course pay her for.  Thinking I'd eventually catch that knitting bug again I held onto the Lopi.  Now I realize that's not going to happen so am selling off my supply.

Below are just two photos among the Icelandic Lopi I have listed on eBay  Compare the prices to those on HAND-KNITTING web site.

Didn't accomplish much at all on my rug project yesterday as I was fussing and cussing at my PC and iPad for not being able to sync music.  Went thru all the hoops and hurdles, followed every instruction, deleted some apps then reinstalled them, restarted the PC, made sure the iTunes app was up to date and the iPad was listed in the control panel, yada yada yada.

My PC still does not recognize my iPad, therefore will not transfer (sync) the music I downloaded to my iPad.  Sadly the Apple store is about two hours away and don't want to make that drive so will just put up with the issue until I can find someone local I trust who may know something about computers ~ I sure don't.

Now am going to pull a few loops.....finally.

A Question from a Follower

Just love it when people ask questions as it gives me something to talk about.  Not that I know all the answers to everything, but most likely I've tried whatever the subject matter is about.  And if I don't know figure I need to know so do a search to learn.

Glenda inquired about how to hook with wool roving ~ does one hook like normal hooking or do a proddy?  I have only hooked this rug using wool roving on the two sheep.  It is a Woolley Fox design called "July Cabin" and a free pattern in a book by Barb Carroll titled American Folk Art Rug Hooking.  I tool some creative license by making leaves on the trees instead of flags and changed the direction of the smoke to make the rug smaller.  Sorry the flash really washed out the colors in the photo below.
A closer view.
And  a close up of one of the sheep.  I did regular hooking with a hank of the three ply wool yarn and cut off another length if I needed more.
This is the Icelandic Lopi I used to hook the sheep which is a roving that had been carded but not thru the final twisted spin to make it a hank of knittable wool.  I purchased this years ago direct from my Icelandic friend Sofia Katla Leifsdottier.
I was in Kris Miller's class when one of her students used Kris' curly locks to use as a Santa beard.  In looking thru old Cape May photos I believe it was this Santa (a Polly Minick Design) that was the pattern Kris helped Jeri with in her class.  Click on the photo to see a close up of that fantastic beard using Kris' curly locks.
Kris Miller has a great blog post about the subject which covers more than I just posted.  http://spruceridgestudios.blogspot.com/p/hooking-101.html  and if you are interested in purchasing some of her curly locks, purchasing a pattern or taking a class you can contact her from her web site HERE.

Hope your weekend is marvelous.
