Misc. Chit Chat

Found a few antique rugs on the internet which interested me, will share those, also a couple rugs I've hooked and a couple Granny updates too.  So it will be a diverse post.

First with some antique rugs ~ Basket of Flowers was hooked early 20th century measuring 27 x 35.
I like the design and if I hooked it would make the hit and miss border at an angle like Vintage Hearts which I hooked below,
or
Posies and Stars antique adaptation I hooked except with a few less red wool strips in the border.
A Canadian hooked rug named Thistle measures 23 x 38.  This is the front and at first I thought the flower on the left was faded.
But when looking at the back it was obvious a different color than red was used.  Note also the rug was self-bound by folding over the burlap foundation and hooked thru all layers.
Hooked mid 20th century the
Love Birds rug would make a great Valentine themed rug and even wedding rug for a family member.
A Boy and Girl playing with their dog.  Appears the boy is wearing a sailor suit, it measures 17 x 32.5 and was hooked early 20th century.
Now for a couple Granny Hook-along updates ~ Betsy (Heavens to Betsy) sent an update and cannot believe she has accomplished this much with having a business and hooking on another rug with friends each week.  Hers is so much more interesting than mine; she has added wings to the birds, different values in the dresses, cat and interesting choice of wool for the basket.  But guess I shouldn't be surprised at her talent as she IS a rug hooking teacher for goodness sake.
Kim (My Field of Dreams) is making great progress on her background and will have the fun part of the border to do next.  By now she is probably already working on that border.
Betsy said she and a few other gals are hooking a Jane Stickle quilt design and told her I hooked one in 2011.  A group of us from Yahoo Rughookers bought the book "Dear Jane" to choose the quilt designs.  I chose patterns which I was sure could be hooked in no less than #8.
Below is how I designed my Jane Stickle rug.
Snow is almost all melted with the rain this evening and very mild temperatures it will probably be all gone tomorrow.  However just might end up with that recurring lake behind the house.

Better get to my hooking...ta ta.

Busy but No Hooking

The very minimum amount of loops have been pulled the last two days and not sure many will be pulled today.  Tuesday I drew and shipped three rug hooking patterns; they were Antique Black Kitten:
Posies and Stars,
plus Antique Pot of Flowers, all of which were to one person.
Then yesterday I had three orders; one person wanted the small version of Horse and Scrolls.
another person wanted Cat's Meow.
The third person wanted an antique adaptation I'd not drawn before so a master pattern needed to be made before I could draw it out on linen.
Then things went to hell.  I did get the master paper pattern done, cut the linen went to serge the edges and the thread broke.  This is an old totally metal but work horse Bernette by Bernina.  I inherited it from a friend a few years ago and it came in handy after my newer model Bernette died.

I worked over an hour to try rethreading it and even have the manual but the damn thing wouldn't do the proper stitch and that same thread was missing something.  So I dropped it off at a local sewing center this afternoon.  However, the person who works on sergers is off today.  I'm confident it is just the threading but am having it serviced too.

I'm dependent on a serger as I do NOT like glued edges which some teachers do to patterns they sell (had a couple and very disappointed they put something like that out there), I've seen some people using tape on the edge but think that is tacky too and wouldn't want to do that with mine and surely wouldn't sell a pattern like that.  So I've alerted the young lady I'll contact her tomorrow.

So you're thinking...'what's wrong with hooking now?'   Well, because after I walk to pick up my mail I'm coming home to make a pot of vegetable soup.  I love a bowl of warm vegetable soup, left overs for a couple days and also freeze some.  But boy it takes forever to chop those veggies.

In Case You're Wondering.....

...I'm not sick, I'm okay.  Just didn't have anything new to blog about and wanted to get Posies and Stars finished to show you.  It was just taken off the frame so hasn't been steamed yet.  As mentioned previously, this antique adaptation was drawn out measuring 21½  x 21½.
Now comes the clean up of mess on the sofa, floor and sofa arm rest before I can even begin to think about wool for my next project.  Also a good vacuuming of the wool dust is a must.  The other rug (Lancaster Barnyard) still isn't completely bound so will work on that a bit tonight since there are now two rugs to bind.

As was expected, next month's April rug camp has been cancelled due to the Covid 19 scare so my deposit will be rolled over to the April 2021 camp.

On a previous blog post I wrote about growing my own sprouts.  I used them all up for salads so started another jar ~ this is day two.  The jar is laying on its side and you can see the little tails developing.
So in about another 4 days I should have a jar which will look like this.
If you would like to do grow your sprouts click on the link HERE.  Matter of fact I have ordered the same jars and tilted framing you see on the web site instead of the makeshift jar and screen I made.

FYI, since I'm the only one who eats the sprouts I only put 1 tablespoon of broccoli seeds in this regular canning jar and it gave me enough sprouts for 3 salads.  If I ate sandwiches I'd have made more since sprouts are fantastic on them too.  I believe those canning jars are bigger so just might grow more next time.

Hope all are well and keeping themselves sane with their favorite activity; mine is rug hooking.

Posies and Stars Update

Per usual I could have been further along if I hadn't pulled out and re-hooked a couple areas over and over.
The bottom left corner was completely hooked then all pulled out.  Most likely I'll continue to do that to the rest of the border until I'm happy.  The bottom looks crooked since the corner is filled with wool while the rest of the bottom is almost empty...but then you all knew that.

I drew mine out 21.5 x 21.5 and am hooking it with an additional row beyond the line.

For reference, here is a photo of the original antique.  It won't look exactly like the antique but sure wish I could even get a little close.  My colors are either too bright or to dark ~ but, am using what I  have.
Still haven't drawn out the project for April camp.  Am trying to get brave enough since I don't know if I want to frame it with a couple rows of wool or left plain.  Could draw and extra wide margin, but hate to waste foundation only to be cut away and put in the trash.

Happy Saturday.
