YIPPEE!!!! Have been waiting for it to arrive. Knew it should be here soon because yesterday a follower alerted me hers had arrived ~ thank you Carolyn. This is the August/September 2016 issue of ATHA magazine. If you aren't presently a subscriber, this issue will definitely push you off that ledge if you are a primitive hooker.
I apologize for the unclear photos, it isn't blurry, the camera is fogged up from the humidity outside. As I didn't want a flash white out decided to take the magazine on the back deck to get the shot. Even went so far as to wipe the lens before taking each photo but it still fogged up since it is so humid outside compared to inside.
For you primitive hookers, this issue is full of nothing but primitives. Just look at that line up of magnificent hookers and articles in the Contents. I want so badly to start reading it right now but have so little left of Zach's Favorite Sports Rug to hook that requires my attention first.
When my friend Deb and I were at Barb Carroll's camp in May Barb was working on her article so that is probably what I will read first.
Another head's up from Carolyn is a notice in the magazine of a deadline for 2017 sports related rugs. Hot damn! I don't have a professional camera but plan to submit a photo of my son's Man Cave Rug from last year and also my grandson's rug for this year. There is an announcement in the magazine on deadlines for various themed rugs.
Had another thunder storm and lots of rain again last night and there is even more water accumulation in my yard. I called mosquito control and they are to come and spray our development and particularly my property since I'm the low area in the neighborhood and the mosquito breeding ground. Sadly I don't hear the frogs any longer so maybe the mosquito's ate them, lol.
Have a good evening everyone and stay cool. No way I can go outside as I'm attacked by vicious mosquito constantly. So when I walk Ben I carry a big handkerchief and whip it around me and him when I see or hear those blood suckers.
And YES, I apply K9 Advantix II on my boy to keep him protected even tho he is an inside dog used to A/C and winter heat.

I love replicating antique adaptation rugs but also design my own. Looking at old rugs in Early American Life magazine was my inspiration to learn to hook.

Tid Bits of Betsy's Class
Betsy shared everything with her students and not just tid bits. But since I'm not the teacher and this blog isn't big enough to handle 3 days of the teaching she shared it will be a teaser.
This is a wonderfully soft torn strip chair pad which was hooked by and for Betsy. BUT, it was only for looks because I don't think she even sat on it. Yet it was there if she needed it for demonstrations or relaxation.
And Betsy showed us how she does the Patchwork backing for her pillows, rugs, and critters. In this picture you can see the different wools if you look carefully, and can also see she folds under the wool at the perimeter and there appears to be warm and natural or something under and between the wool and hooked front.
Betsy also had a wonderful attachment she sells to hook to a table to assist in the braiding technique.
What was nice was that she also showed the class how she does the 'easy peasy' Betsy style of attaching the braided edge around the rug.
However, if you really want to get the full enjoyable class of Betsy, contact her to see when she will be in your area. AND..... if you aren't already on her wool sample list, please write her.
Hooker Hugs and hope you keep Warm!!!!!!! We can always use more wool to keep us warm.

JACK is BACK
I'm close to being done hooking Jack but stopped to take pictures of progress to look with a different eye on the computer. It's getting down to the nitty gritty here and I'm uncomfortable picking colors for the border. I've thought of breaking up the border with a hit and miss in part of it, but not sure I can make it work since hit and miss isn't as easy as you'd think. Here is what I've done so far and this is with a flash.
This picture is without a flash and more natural to what it really looks like in person.
So now I'm wondering what to do to fill those other spots. Seems there is a need for a red at the upper left side but still not sure about the hit and miss toward the bottom that I started.
Tomorrow I'll work more on binding Westmoreland Ponies so I can finally post a finished rug of that and think about Jack. Yet I must say this JACK has been fun to hook.
The last couple evenings here have been wonderful with lower humidity, lower temps almost October like. Lemme tell you that I could live in 12 months of October weather.
Thanks for dropping by and enjoy your evening.
NEWBIES just reading, please feel free to drop me a line to ask questions. Don't know that I'll have the perfect answer because I have my own 'go to' people when I need answers. But we all started as newbies and you are now lesser a hooker than I am.
NOTE:
The above Jack pattern was a free pattern insert in the Sept/Oct 1997 issue of Rug Hooking magazine.
