Have wondered if I'd be missed if I stopped blogging as so many others have done. Before leaving for Cape May though I'd not be able to post photos on my blog from camp did a pre-saved post and planned to hit send from camp. Turned out I couldn't remember my password and Google wouldn't send. Thus, no posts until now. But this is what I'd saved............
If you are reading this blog I am already at Cape May but saved this post before leaving home. Reason is most times Blogger will NOT let me or anyone post photos on iPad. So Google, there's more than one way to skin the cat!!!!
On Wednesday there will be a rug show open to the public at the Chalfonte Hotel and these are the rugs I'm taking to show.
Star Geometric (above), an antique adaptation drawn by me, designer unknown.
Lititz Hens, an antique adaptation drawn by me and the designer was Magdalena Briner Eby.
Above is Early Farm Scene an antique adaptation drawn by Frontier Homestead and designer unknown.
I thoroughly enjoyed every loop pulled on the Great Granddaughter's Rug above. It was drawn by me and designed by Magdalena Briner Eby. Below is a photo of the great granddaughter of Magdalena and the great granddaughter's son, who recently donated the prized possession.
Below is a rug drawn by me using the wording from the War Advertising Council of 1944 to conserve resources. Always thought it was a phrase from struggling farmers and mostly used by quilters and rug hookers. I'd be totally wrong when doing a search on the phrase.
An adorable winter piece from the design of Kelley Belfast and drawn by me is Welcome Snowman.
Also hooked in 2019 but not in the show is Cat Nap, which has already been presented to a friend. It is also a design by Kelley Belfast and drawn by me.
OH!!!!! Don't want to forget Patriotic Pumpkins but that piece is busy gracing my harvest table at the moment.
However, I'd forgotten to take Horses and Hearts so it stayed home. Guess I can take it for next year's show at Cape May.
Will do another blog post tomorrow. I'm BAACK.

I love replicating antique adaptation rugs but also design my own. Looking at old rugs in Early American Life magazine was my inspiration to learn to hook.

Star Geometric
Thank goodness the rug is all hooked. It isn't steamed yet and won't be until later as I'm anxious to start my next rug project. This rug measures 29 x 32 and hooked mostly in #8.5 but used various other cuts from my worm bags. A lot of the wool has been over dyed with either my Olde Patina dye recipe or with black walnuts to give it an aged look. The flash is giving the rug a rather washed out look.
Here is a photo without a flash.....
..and now the original antique rug.
Before I can start hooking my next rug there needs to be a major clean-up in the wool room. Again I'll use a lot of my wool worms but the two main motifs will require some cutting of wool so the table needs to be cleaned off.
As much as I hate cleaning there is no better motivation for me than starting a new project.

Star Geometric
First, Happy New Year to all of my followers and friends. The Horses and Hearts Rug did get bound yesterday and in the list of rugs hooked in 2018 (10 of them). However, that will not be the case with Star Geometric below.
This is an antique adaption and I tried to replicate even those quirky blocks like the original. It measures 29 x 32.

Slow Hooking Results but....
Haven't achieved much hooking the Star Geometric the last few days yet I like what has been done so far.
Now the odd shaped blocks have been hooked the rest should be smooth sailing. Below is a photo of the original. Yeah, I know you who follow me have seen it time and time again but if there is a new visitor they should know.
Although my hooking has been at a snail pace that is due to listing items on eBay. BUT, must say eBay has given me great rewards for the time spend to photo, crop the photo, and list them.
OY... then when the items sell there is the packaging up, labeling and shipping part. OH... but I did say it was all worth it didn't I?
Guess I'm jealous of my hooking time as I've another rug waiting in the wings. Really wanted Star listed in the year of 2018 but don't think that will happen since there are more listings on eBay.
Surely everyone is busy putting together toys for youngsters for Santa to put under the tree. Many are baking, wrapping, gifts or packing bags to travel to grandma's house. Whatever stage you are in, I wish for all of my friends, followers AND OF COURSE my family to have a very Merry Christmas. I WILL be with my FAMILY on Christmas Day.

STAR GEOMETRIC
Normally a rug this size (29x32) would have been completely hooked by now since it was started the beginning of November. But, since taking a detour to hook and assemble Snowman Stocking designed by Kelley Belfast and listing items on ebay it has slowed me down.
Another slow down was the misshapen blocks at the top and the bottom border. Trying to get them to look anything similar to the original antique was agonizing.
Below is the original which was hooked 1900 using wool, rags and hooked on burlap.
Am hoping smoother sailing for the rest of the rug. Honestly....as long as I'm hooking I'm happy. Yet sitting in the wings is another antique adaptation drawn and waiting for me. I'm itching to get to it since that one is a Magdalena Briner Eby design.
Guess everyone is busily wrapping presents, baking cookies (not me), or doing last minute shopping for Christmas.

STAR Geometric
Feels so great to be hooking on Star Geometric again that I'm even hoping for a day of inclement weather to do nothing but sit and hook.
Sheesh, now that I'm seeing it on my computer monitor makes me want to pull out the 3rd block of border on the left as it is way darker than it should be. BUT, that is a lot of #%!&! hooking to replace so think it will stay.
And yes, there are a few funky looking blocks in the pattern which take more time than others and seems I still didn't get it right. As a reference here is a picture of the original antique.
Although I posted the dimensions of my pattern before, will mention again it measures 29 x 32.
Had two great weather days here, did some yard work and even hung out some white laundry ~ love hanging my laundry. Tomorrow will be mediocre but tomorrow evening the fun comes to a close.

More from Ocean City Rug Camp
The November camp has 3 teachers with around 10 - 12 in each class. Most all of them have been hooking for a while, yet there is very little participation for the show ~ I've even thought 'why bother taking mine?'
I took all the rugs which were hooked since last November so had about 8 rugs to show, won't bore you with them again since you've seen them over and over during the year. Here are a few of the pieces which were brought and I have no idea who hooked what.
The rug below has a pair of doll glasses on the woman's face which added something special to the rug.
Love how the person hooked the background of the bunny rug.
Hit and miss circles and squares was interesting and good use of worms.
The party cat below was cute.
There were a couple pieces in frames but when I went back to get a photo of them they had been removed.
Here are a few of the in-progress projects some of us were working on in class. Betty Ann was hooking this very handsome goat.
Cathy accomplished a lot on her Harvest Time rug.
Tho the narrow cut piece being hooked by Betty is not something I'd hook but had a great appreciation for it was a beautiful piece of work. The cherry blossoms were proddy and looked real. The Pearl McGowan design underwent a little reworking with the help of Cindy so that Betty could have a good vision on where to hook.
Oysters and More was another project in our class and forget who was hooking it.
Sadly I didn't get a photo of Diane's beautiful owl, Reina's Tiger or Ruth's finished purse. If any of them are following my blog perhaps they will send me a photo so I can add it to the blog.
Here is my Star Geometric which is an antique adaptation. The dimensions are 29 x 32. Haven't worked on it since being home as I'm trying to finish hooking Horses and Hearts rug first.
There wasn't a group 'throw down' as normally happens, but made sure to get a photo of Cheri Reid's rug which was being hooked in another class. Cheri is hooking a life size rug of Marilyn Monroe in the gown she wore singing "happy birthday" to President Kennedy.
This is the photo being used as her guide.
And this is what Cheri has accomplished so far. I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished at Cape May rug camp next September.
Happy hooking.
