On The Frame

Always fun to have a new project to work on. Am only going to show you a small part of the rug to keep its identity secret for a while.  Some of you may already know what it is and will share that and the designer in my next post when more is hooked.
Well, after 25 years of great service my washer finally died.  Since the dryer is of the same age figure I may as well buy both.  Don't think it would be wise for me to have a repair man come out because it would cost $100 just for the drive here plus hourly rate and cost of parts.  And there would be no warranty.

So today will go out looking at what is available and see how it will hurt my savings account.  Guess I can't really complain since there were 25 years of work from it but still don't like spending that money ~
would much rather spend that on rug camps 😁.

Oh, yesterday I saw the funniest antique rug and can't wait until the next antique rug post.

Happy Thursday.

Sneak Peak

Really not much to show as I've stayed true to myself by ripping out everything I hook and hook it over again.  Here is what my mini accomplishment has produced so far and what a corner of the rug looks like at this moment.
Below is how it started.  I was attempting to stay rather close to how I saw the original antique with the top diamond but it looked too light.  So used darker wool which appeals to me more although not like the original antique

Had I kept the corner anchor its original colors (before pulling out and re-hooking) it would have also been a light color and matched.   By the way, the corner anchor isn't that orange in person.
Hmmm, me thinks another setting on the camera is called for now for comparison.  In the photo below the corner isn't as orange.
If you have been following my blog you may have guessed what this new project is by now.  Will show you more of the rug as it grows.  But at the pace I'm going it may take a while.  Besides, I've some appointments coming up which will drag me from the house and I really need to finish binding Radiant Flower.  While I HATE binding rugs the angst gets worse when they start piling up.

Designing a Rug by the Seat of My Pants

Yes, this Mother Hen design is still in progress and am designing as I'm hooking.  Initially there were just 4 peeps and thought perhaps an odd number would be more eye appealing and drew the 5th one to the bottom left and over Mother Hen's skirt.  Not sure what I'm going to do about that yet... 4 or 5 peeps?  It just might be that having 3 bright yellow peeps at the bottom would be a distraction rather than making the eye move around the rug to pick up a glance at just the four.
Also, I contemplated several types of border....OR no border at all before I drew this out.  The design could be reduced in size by changing the border making it more interesting a project for those beginning hookers or those who like quick results.  Presently drawn the design measures 15 1/2 x 17.

I'd thought of doing the primitive swags, or a straight border with a wavy line in the middle with dots along the wave (that would have made the design even bigger), or what I drew.

When I was color planning was unable to find a suitable background color.  Well, actually did pick out a tan texture but have since changed my mind.   At this point I'm thinking of making the background a primitive black, reducing the perimeter and having swags instead of this wavy border.  Uh, still haven't decided on the 5th peep yet.  And, could be that I could have that 5th peep above the skirt and in the background as a rouge peep.

Stay tuned to see what this design turns into for better or worse.  Heck, I just might make a hard right hand turn and come up with something totally opposite of what I've mentioned.

Thanks for dropping by and be kind to one another.  OH!  And stay warm for those of you having winter and frigid temps.
