IT'S TIME FOR ...

It's time for a rug show me thinks, as it's been a minute or two since the last one.  All or most all of these rugs are still listed on the auction site as they were recently found.

A robin surrounded by a circle of leaves and 8 point stars in the corners.  Dated 19th century and dimensions of 18 x 31.
A ram with checkered background early 20th century, 24.5 x 39.
Another bird but this time with hearts.  Said to be hooked late 19th to early 20th century.  It measures 18 x 33 .
Lovely floral with scrolls dated March 1871.  It measures 33.5 x 46.
Described as "Felix the cat" it has directional hooking.  Said to be hooked early 20th century (16 x 20) and possibly suitable as a friendly Halloween rug me thinks.  Maybe even draw a mouse in there for Felix to play with.
Three tulips with dimensions of 17 x19m was hooked late 19th to early 20th century.
Tobe has been sold previously as I'm sure I posted the rug before.  But is up for auction again.  Measures 25 x 39.5 and hooked late 19th century.
Finally, a fearless male lion hooked early 20th century (29 x 47.5).  And yes, Robin, I saw it.

With that, think it's time for the mike drop.

Happy hooking.

RUG SHOW TYME

As everyone is still probably scrambling to buy last minute gifts, grocery shopping for Christmas dinner or cleaning before house guests arrive, thought you might enjoy a beverage of choice and enjoy a rug show.

Don't know the exact dimensions of the narrow mat below, but it was obviously hooked 1925.   Nice hit and miss border colors, blue and tan are great colors together.
A cat with her kittens 21 x 41.5 circa 1900.  Think I've previously posted this rug but might have forgotten to move it to the 'antiques' file.
A similar color scheme is the next rug with cattails surrounding a duck or bird with long legs and long beak.  There are several species so you can decide which by checking HERE.  Was hooked late 19th early 20th century and measures 32 x 47.
This rug still listed on an auction site ~ dog circa 1900 with dimensions of 28 x 40.5.
Also still up for auction is the duck rug circa 1900.  It measures 21 x 34  from an Ohio collector.
Very pretty floral which is in a textile museum but memory of which museum escapes me.
Hagley Museum rug measuring 34 x 40 dated 1850-1900.  At a quick glance it reminded me of a string of Christmas lights, lol.
All I know about the rug below is that it's a horse.  No date, dimensions or provenance.
A mostly leaf designed rug, it measures 22.5 x 35.5 and hooked 1930-40.
A beauteous beast me thinks.  Hooked between 1910-20 measures 31.5 x 40.  Not sure if this is the entire hooked piece but probably not from the partial flowers along the side.  But this is all I could find.  I liked it so saved it.
A winter scene with sun shining bright, 16 x 36.  Guess I should be happy it was 5" of rain that fell here on top of the already 2" which fell the week before, as Lauren said usually snow is 10X that of rain water.  EEK!!!!!!!  Really???
Am slowly plugging along ~ translation: slowly pulling loops ~ on the sheep that lost its way.  I'm just not ready to give in, give up and put it in a UFO container just yet.  After all, there are still 11 days left in this year.

A Lion by Any Other Name....

This is my accomplishment on the antique adaptation of a lion so far.  Not sure about the border yet so haven't continued to expand that.  Would like to see how the inside turns out and how bright or dull to make the border.  But did want to at least hook the holding lines.
Also might pull out a section in the middle left on the rug and replace, yeah a normal tweak.

This is a rather smallish rug and drew mine 15 ½ X 24.   Each time I'd see this lion in my file always smiled and knew I had to hook him.  So now I need help with a name.  Two names I've thought about is "Gold Lion" another is "Bespectacled Lion" since he looks like he's wearing spectacles.

In case you forgot what the original antique looked like, here it is.  The lion rug was hooked early 20th century and the original measured 26 x 40.5.  Wish my wool was as rich looking as the original but I'm "making do with what I have".  Remember that quote?  I  hooked a rug with that quote.
Wow, can't believe it is July 1st already.  Grass needed to be cut yesterday but it was so dry and crispy and knew there would be rain today so held off.  Thankfully there were a few pour downs so the grass weeds will be more resilient, not die and the dust not so bad.

So give me your thoughts on a name for the rug:

Oh No What to DO......

There is just a smidgen more to hook on Be Goode Be Nice pattern but at this point I'm saving it to have those last few comforting inches to hook tonight.  This will keep mama happy with a hook in her hand one more evening.

But what will I hook next?  There are so many tempting designs and patterns in my stash. Originally the plan was to start an adaptation of an antique lion.  Uh, notice that blotchy background.
And then Lori of Out of Hand Rughookers has offered up a free winter design which is pulling at my heart strings too.

So am now in a debacle... will definitely give this some thought while pulling the last loops on Be Goode Be Nice pattern.  Which, by the way, still needs to be steamed, bound and ON my harvest table Before HALLOWEEN.

Oh my, decisions, decisions...

Back to the Lion Rug

Well finally I'm posting an updated picture of my lion rug and already I'm trying to decide what to hook next.  Since there's been no loops pulled lately on the spiral rug guess I could always pick that up to work on.
Even tho I know how to do the hidden initials and messages, taught by Bev Conway (previously posted on my blog last year between September and November) I think I'll just hook my initials and date with a dark wool which will blend in with and gently seen in the background.  This rug is getting tedious now since all the fun things are about done.  Only the border lines remain as fun and then the background above the lion will seem to take forever.

Among the rugs I'm contemplating as my next project is the Lollipop Bouquet.
I love how Kathy of Briarwood Folk Art hooked hers and it looks so old. Click the link to see what she did to make hers look so old.

Try and stay cool in these steaming temperatures; tomorrow the heat index for the Delaware/Maryland area will be a 'feels like' 110.

Shifting Gears

It's time to put aside my fun time of hooking the lion which was started at Barb's and work on things for my upcoming show in July.  Meanwhile, this is what the king of my jungle looks like now.
And, I was torn about what to do with the dome of the head area.  I'd thought about not hooking anything there for fear it would lose the shape of the head and ears not be noticed.  But then the ears may have ended up looking like horns if the dome were not hooked.  But this morning as I was waking up had an idea that if I used the mane colors and made it look like it was flowing backward it might work... and I think it does.

Back to my show.....There are LOTS of unfinished things and thankfully got one finished  today.   I just finished another Beloved Belindy.  Guess they are making a comeback as I've recently had a few orders for them so thought I'd make another to offer at the show.

Well at least I'll get my hooking fix satisfied tonight as this is another project which I want to take to the beach show.  It's getting close and want this dang thing done!  I'm tired of looking at it and want to move on.
Then tomorrow I'll work on another doll which was started a couple months ago.  Since I prefer hooking to making dolls now, my attention span for dolls is short lived.  So I might cut out a doll or two, make one and the other one sits half finished until the urge strikes me again.  Such is the case with the body parts in my sewing room; but at least they are stuffed, they just need to be assembled, face, hair, clothing, and eventually it will be a doll.

Thanks for visiting.
