This is the second posting of the Cape May rug show but have much more to share as the days go on. Below is Birds and Pomegranates, a design by Edyth O'Neill and hooked by Carol McKey.
This beautiful antique adaptation below was hooked by Sharon Field.
Oh my, you should have seen this Acorn Harvest in person as the photo does not do it justice. It was designed and hooked by Karen Buchheit. The background was hooked from the back which made the front appear as if it were woven. The acorns and bird were hooked Waldoboro style and was an awesome and humbling hooked piece.
This huge landscape below was designed and hooked by Diane Lenters.
Janet Reid designed and hooked this fall rug shown below.
Herbs, a Marion Hamm design, was hooked by Pat McDonnell.
Cindy Harpring hooked this Chicken design. I hooked this one as well and purchased the design (Hannah's Hen) from Woolley Fox, not Julie Marie Smith as the card says.
Lucille Festa hooked the rug below, named 1898.
Pumpkin Patch was hooked by Bob Strunk.
Star and Fans is a Sally Kallin design hooked by Karen Buchheit.
Stars and Diamonds probably looks familiar to you as that is an antique adaptation I hooked.
Betsy Warner hooked Vermont, a Karen Kahle design.
And finally, Wool Sampler, designed and hooked by Rebecca Erb.
There are more finished rug photos to share in another post but would like to save some for tomorrow.

I love replicating antique adaptation rugs but also design my own. Looking at old rugs in Early American Life magazine was my inspiration to learn to hook.

Maryland Shores Rug Hooking
I haven't attended the April rug camp in many years. Since I was self-taught this was the venue for my very first rug camp. I wanted to unlearn bad habits and find out how to hook the right way. It was convenient as it is only an hour away from my house. But of course I would stay at the hotel to enjoy the fun and cerebral happiness that is shared among hookers.
Below is a photo taken with Eric Sandberg as my teacher in 2006. Twelve years later he is my teacher again this year. Eric is helping me color plan Birds and Pomegranates, a design by Edyth O'Neill which was in a book for me to copy. I'm on the floor and friend Shari is on the other side of Eric.
Below I'm still soaking up whatever it is Eric is teaching during class.
Since I'm unable to post photos from my iPad, I'm preparing blog posts at home and saving them to publish once at camp. Yeah, I'm cheating Blogger. But will take photos while I'm here at camp which you will see once I return home.
Here is how the Birds and Pomegranates turned out.

More of My Hooked Items
At Cape May in a Bev Conway class I hooked HERB ANGEL which is a design by Brenda Gervais. It was a needle punch design and wrote to Brenda asking permission to hook it, which she generously granted.
The angel's hair is hooked with a red/orange thick and thin wool which I have yards and yards of. The huge cone was purchased when working for Sunset Designs, a stitchery company located on Crow Canyon Rd., San Ramon, CA. The company was started in a garage by Tom Cundith. Oh it feels good to think about such memories of that great job.
There was another class with Bev Conway scheduled at another camp and wondered what to hook. At first my mind went directly to a Deanne Fitzpatrick's design whith slender women standing along the coastline waving their scarves. OMG, I wanted to hook that so badly.
But, as I was going thru a divorce and not a youngster any longer, it didn't feel right. Instead I hooked what I've named the Olde Gals. To me they embody the celebration of women friends of all sizes. No longer youthful, no longer wearing the latest fashions, but friendship forever. Still love this piece and it hangs just off the living room so that each time climbing the stairs to the wool room I see these lovely ladies.
The little mat below was a Tonya Robey pattern I hooked as a sample for the photo shoot of one of her pattern booklets. As the initials are still SS instead of SP it must have been hooked pre divorce and her booklet has a date of 2007.
Below is a wonderful Edyth O'Neill pattern called Birds and Pomegranates. The pattern was in a book to enlarge and hook. The rug sold at one of my shows as that was a time of wondering if I'd be able to make ends meet.
Time has gotten away with me and must clean up the kitchen then hook on Gossip.

Meet the Group and See some Rugs
The end of any rug camp is sad because you not only leave one of your favorite teachers (in this case Barb Carroll), but also saddened by parting from new and old friends.
On the left in the photo below was a new friend who joined us; her name is Vicki. She is working on Birds and Pomegranates which is an Edyth O'Neill design. In the pink and red to the right in the photo is Joanne. I remember seeing her at the Ocean City, MD rug camp ~ I'm terrible with names but never forget a face.
In the foreground with the green sweater is Colleen, a friend of Vicki's and they both flew in from Colorado to take their first class with Barb. In the back on the left is my pal Deb who is at Barb's work space where she color plans each student's rug personally and individually.
Purple Peeps below was also hooked by Joanne.
My pal Deb took Monticello (a Karen Kahle design) to Woolley Fox last year and Barb asked if she'd bring it for show-n-tell.
Below are designs everyone was working on. This one below is called Country Gentlemen (I think) and being hooked by Joanne. Actually, she brought another rug to have Barb fix something that was bothering Joanne. After it was fixed Joanne put this one on her frame.
Below is Gossip, one of Woolley Fox's newest designs; so new it will be the first hooked picture to appear on the web site I believe. It is being hooked by my pal Deb.
Ah, so now you're wondering where my rug is...right? Well I could do a whole blog post about mine so will save it until tomorrow. Besides it will allow me to get a little more hooked for it's grand entrance. No, it won't be finished then.
Right now I've got to go and TRY to start that #!*?% lawn mower again so that I can get Ben's backyard cut.
On this Memorial Day I'd like to express my gratitude to all the military who have served in this country to keep us from harm. Sadly some warriors made the ultimate sacrifice.

For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the rug below that Colleen was hooking. What's worse is that when thumbing through the Rug Pattern book I did see it...once. Since then I've thumbed through every page and cannot locate the design. It IS there, why am I not seeing it?? Crazy.Below is Gossip, one of Woolley Fox's newest designs; so new it will be the first hooked picture to appear on the web site I believe. It is being hooked by my pal Deb.

Some Rugs I've Hooked
Since I'm still working on the commission rug thought I'd feed your thirst for blogging and show you some rugs I've hooked. The one below is a design by Bev Conway. The original design had the hens sitting on a large egg each but I wanted them on a bed of straw.
This is Birds and Pomegranates, a design by Edyth O'Neil and it was taken from the pattern offered in a book, but forget which book right now. It is residing somewhere in the New England states.
This is Two Chickens, a design by Polly Minick .
The one below I named "The Olde Gals" and was adapted, with permission, by the quilt designer. I added the tree outline and grass for framing. Before deciding to hook this my plans were to hook Deanne Fitzpatrick's "Coastal Girls". But since I was going thru a divorce decided the olde gals needed to stick together; they may no longer have the youth and beauty but they were wiser and a strong lot who had the friendship of one another for support.
This is an antique adaptation and I chose to hook only one of the two horses.
Obviously I've many more rug pictures that I've hooked but this will give you a bit of eye candy when you need a hooking fix.

More Rugs I've Hooked
When I first started hooking it seemed I'd never finish the mitt shape that I started and the hooked angel wings. The thought of trying to do a whole rug, even a small one, seemed unattainable at that time. But boy have I hooked quite a few rugs since.
Here is a picture of Birds and Pomegranates, a design by Edyth O'Neill which was a pattern offered in one of my rug hooking books. I believe I hooked it in #8 strips using some over dyed and some as is textures. It was purchased and now resides in New Hampshire.
This next one was a pattern in a booklet by Needl'love titled Falloween. Funny thing about this one is that I had over dyed a red, light blue and white check skirt using a gold and thought the colors came out ugly, but it was that very wool that was Lucille Festa's favorite. It appears in the flowers and feathers.
And this one I loved and unfortunately sold it because I had an offer, I needed money and it is now gone. Perhaps one day I'll hook another. It is an adaptation of an antique rug in the Kopp book Folk Art Underfoot. Like the other two it was hooked on primitive linen and hooked in mostly in #8 strips but started trying to use the #8.5 which I came to prefer.
Another which I hooked from the Folk Art Underfoot is the Cat and Mouse rug, which was also sold. Sorry this is such a washed out picture but I took the picture in natural light outside, sure wish I'd taken a better picture of it. This one was hooked on rug warp using mostly #8 strips.
I've plenty more rugs to share and as I sometimes need fodder for my blog will depend on them to keep the blog alive. Hope you enjoyed the mini show of rugs I've hooked.
