RANDOM RAMBLINGS

Yesterday afternoon I listed some wool yardage for sale on Facebook.  Number 1, 2 and 3 have sold so far.
Also today, someone asked if I'd draw the following pattern for them, said yes and gave a price.  Actually I saw her initial inquiry about getting a pattern drawn on FB so told her to think about it and to even contact the other people who offered a solution so she could compare.  Would be happy to do it for her but want folks to be happy with their choices.  She responded and tomorrow I will draw this patriotic chicken design for her, sweet, eh?
Was so hoping to have my chicken rug done by today because Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) and Sue (Vernon Junction) are going to embark on another rug hooking event and I wanted to join them long distance by doing my own design using alternative textiles.  Am sure I'll not get this remaining background all hooked by the end of today.  Lauren says I'm a fast hooker but I'm not that fast.
And finally, the casualties of having a roof repaired.  I live in the woods, have no gardener as I'm it.  Back in the day I used to get on my hands and knees, pull weeds and mulch.  Now when I'm up to it my yard work is doing what is most important at that time.  So you won't be seeing any lovely gardens that my other blogger mates share.

That said, here are a few casualties and I'm doubtful the daylilies will bounce back and for sure the Bleeding Hearts are gone for this year.
More injured daylilies; actually I took several photos surrounding the house but when you've seen two photos of struggling day lilies you know what the others would look like.
One of my cement drain splash blocks was cracked as the wagon wheel ran over it.
And since it rained on Friday this the what the truck and wagon did to my yard.  It's an eyesore to the normal weeds that grow in my yard but soon enough the weeds will fill in those mud spots.  Below is the side yard.
And here is the front yard.  Moss tends to be the weed that grows most here.
I've still work to do tonight and tomorrow ~ draw a pattern and ship some wool.  Finishing my chicken rug isn't looking hopeful.  Happy hooking.

THE CHICKEN PAIR RUG

Before hooking the roosters comb and wattle decided to take a photo with another camera to see if the wool used in the hen really does work.  I can see the red well enough so won't opt for a brighter red.  It is an antique adaptation after all.
This is how the previous photo with another camera appeared and which was my cause of concern.  So no need to swap out the red.
Since yesterday was an unusually clear day thought I'd better cut grass before last night's storm and today's rain ... yes, again there's rain.

CHICKEN PAIR UPDATE

Also considered another name for the rug ~ Perdue's Pride.  That is because I worked in the office at Perdue Farms corporate for a few years.  But you probably know the name of this design more as the Chicken Pair.

Next time I take a photo think I'll use the other camera since the red isn't showing up on the comb and wattle in the photo.  Don't want to hook a brighter red because it can be seen in person, maybe a different camera will show truer colors.  Besides the change in wool color between the chickens isn't showing up well either.
Like most rug hookers it doesn't seem as tho I've achieved as much as I was hoping, but we are supposed to enjoy the process, right?

It is downright COLD in my house and outside.  I refuse to turn the heat back on!!!!!  Last night I slept with not only a blanket but also a comforter, and was comfy until getting out of bed.  Of course the rain and humidity added to the low temperature makes it feel even colder.  And it's almost June for gawds sake!  Oh well, this too shall pass and I'll soon be complaining about the heat and humidity.

Happy hooking, ya'll.

ON THE FRAME

Right out of the gate my reverse hooking started.  Working on the first chicken thought a dark red vs. bright red would be a better choice for the comb and wattle since it is an antique adaptation.  Then hooked a row of background around to see if the comb and wattle were visible.  Well heck, I can't even see any red in the photo below but can see it in person.
So went to the slightly brighter red which you can't see in this photo below either.  At this moment I don't plan to hook an even brighter red.  But who knows what I'll do later as the rug progresses.
Days of rain has forced me to face the facts .... I need a new roof.  Thankfully there's no rain inside the house but noticed some evidence of leaking at the section between the back of the house and onto the back porch.  And the rest of the roof is beyond time to replace.

I'll start contacting companies for estimates but know it will be costly.  Neighbor down the street had their roof put on about 5 years ago and cost them $18,000.  Prices have increased a LOT since then as have salaries.  I should have bitten the bullet a few years ago when it would have cost less.  Oh well, oh hell.

Guess it's a good thing I opted to not attend Cape May in September so that will be about $1,000 toward the cost, lol.  Happy homeownership.

WHAT TO HOOK NEXT

Although I'm not quite done hooking the golden eagle adaptation, it's time for me to choose another as the main project.  Ezra's Farm is handy as a 'plus one' in a pinch.  As of today there are two on my radar and one of them I passed up previously.  That would be this antique chicken pair but now am giving it another look.
The other in the running is this antique Garrett Bluenose design below.  Garrett Bluenose started designing and selling rug patterns in 1892 and probably most known for his 3 Bears and Schooner designs.
In other news...yesterday afternoon it appeared to be okay to cut grass after all the rain of the previous day.  All went well for a while and then the riding mower just stopped.  Then discovered that particular section of yard was quite wet so a clump of yard debris had collected under and around the blades.  Whew, easy fix and I continued on with my task.  Today is to be sunny and 76 with more rain predicted the next couple days.  Glad the grass chore is done.

Have a couple errands to run and then home for lunch and hook more on my present project.

RUG HOOKING CHIT CHAT

There may be a pattern order from a customer after the weekend.  A week or so ago she reached out showing me two antique rugs she was interested in.  One was a beautiful red bird with red flowers.
We chatted about sizes and then she contacted me saying she was interested in this floral antique instead.  Since she was leaving Wednesday (past) for an antique show I suggested she confirm which she wants when returning home this weekend.  After all, she just might see another antique rug she likes more and I don't want to draw anything on linen for naught.
So now lets get to the elephant in the room ~ I need an antique fix since Animals Great and Small is all hooked.  But am having a difficult time finding a rug that makes my heart skip a beat.  Yes, I do have a 'plus one' which I've started but want a project that I'm excited about.  Here are the ones I'm considering.

Have hooked a number of Magdalena designs but not this Double Rooster rug.  If I do this one it would go on my kitchen floor.
Then was gravitated toward this antique Chicken Pair to go in that spot.
Was still eyeing this horse rug.
This Deer Torsi, a 19th century hooked rug also caught my eyes.
I cropped the busy border off this antique horse rug previously shown, which is also in the running.
After all that, I've made a decision.  Now I have a 'main event' and a 'plus one' guest when needed.
