RUG LABELS and MORE

Just printed out a sheet of labels for a few rugs hooked in 2025, the rug just hooked but not quite bound and the rug I'm working on now.  Friend Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) prints out her labels one at a time.  But I'm so afraid of wasting the fabric backed printer paper that I do the whole sheet at a time even if some rugs have been hooked for months.
Although I've previously posted instructions on how I make them, there are always new people visiting my blog (uh, I think and hope, lol) so if you want to  find out how I make the labels click HERE.

Sheila has completed the hooking part of her Hearts Hook-Along and just has the binding to do.  Yup, 'tis true.   She decided to 'cut corners' and make the shape of hers a little different from the others' who participated, while staying true to it's design.  I like it and she should be proud to have hers a bit of an 'original'.    Thanks for joining Sheila.
Now  to my bad news.....unfortunately this area is under a 'blizzard warning'.  Latest report says perhaps 8-14" of that white stuff.  So much  for the 'global warming'.
Am hoping the weather model they used for the amount of snow is wrong.  So it is gonna be a 'wait and see' kind of sh*t show.  But this is the report just in at 7:10 p.m. Saturday night.

But I've plenty to keep me occupied inside ~ I can hook, sew labels on rugs, or continue binding Shadow Sleigh Ride.   Wishing you a happy weekend and very little snowfall.

THIS and THAT

Now that enough rugs have been hooked to fill up a full page of labels I've printed them out and have begun sewing them onto the rugs.  Those last two rugs needed to fill the page were Magdalena's Animal Parade, presently being bound, and Animals Great and Small presently on my frame.

Today I sewed on 4 of the 6 labels to the proper rugs (below) and the other 2 labels await their turn.  FYI, for those antique adaptations I hook, the photo on the label would be the original antique rug from which my rug was hooked.  You can see how I do my labels by reading about it on a previous blog post HERE.

As I used my last printer page from the 10-pack will need to order more once I've gotten close to another 6 rugs hooked to fill a page.
Also patched that too short binding tape on Animal Parade and even tho it's on the backside it was still frustrating that it came up just a smidgen short.  Yet, a quarter inch or a foot short, would have prompted the same frustration.  I'll be sure to steam my rugs before measuring out binding tape next time.
Won't have that problem when binding Animals Great and Small as that one will be whipped with yarn from Ali Strebel.  I do various binding styles depending on the rug, the border style and colors.  You can see some different styles in the first photo.

Happy hooking.

IT'S RUG LABEL TIME FINALLY

I'm way behind labeling my rugs, as usual, because it takes 6 labels to fill a page so 6 hooked rugs are required.  Two of the rugs were hooked during 2023.  One was started November 2023 (The Reclining Sheep) but wasn't finished until the beginning of 2024 so gave it a label of 2024.
Those three rugs have their labels attached and here the are.  The flash has washed out the color in all of those rugs.
Sorry, I just couldn't let that washed out view of my rugs go so here they are  individually; first up is Reclining Sheep.
My design named 1776 Eagle which was adapted from an antique 1907 rug.
And finally Going in Circles, another adaptation which was a LOT of fun and was my 'plus one'.  If you compare this photo with the first one you'll see how washed out the rugs were in the first photo.
The Lone Stag label will be attached next but the last two labels will sit for a while as one still needs to be bound and the other is presently on my frame being hooked.  But at least the labels are ready to be attached when they are completed.

I've posted a tutorial on a previous blog post and will copy and paste the link again to not repeat the whole process.  You can read how to do your own labels HERE.  The last printer fabrics I purchased was from TAILOR so perhaps there are other products available under a different name and the price may be higher.
More rain and turbulent weather in the forecast here and probably where you live.  So buckle up buttercup and have something handy to keep you entertained.  I'll be hooking for sure.

WHIPPING and LABELING

Thankfully there is only one rug to bind on the pile as Woman on Horseback was just whipped and label attached.  There is a downside to my label making madness as I don't do individual labels.  I wait until there are 6 rugs to label so they can be printed on normal paper size fabric covered sheets.
When I do an antique adaptation I always put a photo of the original antique on the label.  For the Woman on Horseback I copied an image of Lucinda Ward's quilt block on the label.  Here is a photo of the labels made for the last 6 rugs hooked.
You can read about how to do that HERE.
This evening I'll try to make up hooking time on the "Stars" rug.  Stupidly I hooked a big star with the wrong color and ripped the sucker out only to hook it again in the right color.  This reverse hooking seems to happen a lot to me.  But forward or reverse rug hooking is still my comfortable place.

Weatherman says this area of Delaware just might, beat the average high for this time of year tomorrow.  Could be high 70's almost 80.  BUT then will plummet to low temperatures.  So plans are to do laundry for whites and hang them out tomorrow morning the make some soup for the colder temps.  Like I've said before.... "weather in Delaware is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get".

MISC. Rug Hooking Chit Chat

A few posts ago I told you of my losing a few rug labels I'd printed out.  I know they were printed and cut out but have no idea what happened to them.  And, nope, they never surfaced.  So with enough labels to fill a page I printed out more.
The three labels on the left are for rugs already hooked or in the progress.  Oh Glorious Day design will be hooked at Cape May, the bottom design Friendship Bells will be hooked November.  Because I needed another planned piece for a label I chose the small Tonya Robey pattern I've had for eons.  I figure that could easily be finished in 2019 too.

When hooking an antique adaptation I like to put the original picture on the label as with the hearts and Great Granddaughter's rug.  Otherwise  usually print a picture of the design by the maker of the pattern to show another version other than what I've hooked.

A tutorial of making rug labels can be seen on my blog by clicking HERE.  If you wanted to know my thoughts on cutters, rug frames, etc. all you need to do is type those key words in the space at the top left side of my blog.

On my grocery list today is Glad Press and Seal.  For what you ask?  I've heard that if you press that on the bottom of the rug you're working on, when pulling the rug off the frame it helps prevent loops from being pulled out.  Also, I'm such a slob at meal time there's always salad dressing which doesn't make it to my mouth but makes it to my top.  Now I'll be prepared by pressing some of that on the front of my linen top.

Happy Saturday everyone.

Rug Labels Made

I am several rugs behind in sewing labels on.  Unlike Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) who sews on a label immediately after the binding is done, I wait until there are enough rugs hooked to print out an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of labels.

Here are the ones I just printed out but haven't been sewn on yet.
The picture posted on each label is determined by different things.  When doing antique adaptations I like to post a photo of the original antique.  That is what I did with the top left label for Primitive Horse and Birds and a picture of the original antique.

To the right of that is the Anniversary Sheep design which was a generous gift given us at Cape May, which was basic.  It was a challenge piece to inspire creativity.  On the label I wanted to show the basic design on the back and the result is the finished piece.

The label below that is one I named "Ben in the Garden".  But was a pattern by Pat Hornifus given me by a friend.  I'd lost my boy Ben and decided to change the Golden to a Rottweiler.  But printed the picture of her original rug design "Golden in the Garden" on my label as the original source.

Since there are new readers/followers on my blog some of you may not have seen the previous tutorial on how I make rug labels.   So to not duplicate that process, if you click HERE you can read all about it.

Happy hooking or whatever creative mood you are in right now.

Sewing Labels On

I'll give you folks a break from rugs I've hooked and present two rug labels just sewn on.  In previous posts have shown you how I do printed fabric labels with more than one label per sheet.  Tap that highlighted link above to see the info.

But NOW...... instead of stitching on a thin cotton label onto the back of the rug I'm doing something different.  Why didn't I think of this before?

I have machine stitched the cotton label onto a piece of felt and hand sewed the felt to the back of the rug.  You can see this rug was bound using the wool whipped edge and the wool came from Ali Strebel.  It is a nicely dyed wool complimenting the Magdalena Goat rug.
Yeah, the rug is a little wonky even after steaming, pulling and stretching.  It is what happens when there are curves, circles in curves and just the dynamics of the hooking process which makes the rug go wonky at the sides.  But hey, isn't this which makes us love the antique rugs, right?

Another label sewed on today was for Olde Hearts. The photo of a rug on the label was one replicated of the original antique.  Sadly my printer ink levels were low so the labels were not clear.
However, I like this new method of sewing the cotton printed label onto the felt first.

Now back to working on the bottom of the Gossip rug.  Must admit that I'll be happy when this BIG MOMMA is done so that I can move on.

Happy Monday.

Making Rug Labels

It was just time to print out rug labels since I had one page of information.  Of course that means that it will take another few rugs to be hooked before another sheet of 8 labels can be produced.  Well, that is since I'm cheap (thrifty).

I tried to attach a photo of the Microsoft Word document but that didn't seem to work.  Therefore I printed out my labels, trimmed them and took a photo after.  Some of the rugs for which I made a label are older rugs hooked but didn't have a date hooked in it nor another form of documentation and felt they needed one.   Some are fairly newly hooked rugs you would recognize.  If you touch the photo it will enlarge for you to see my info.
Below is the product I used.  It was purchased from Hancock Fabrics near me.  It is sold in both white and cream fabric sheets; I purchased the cream.  As you can see I wrote on the front of the package how my printer accepts this product.  To find out that info I made a mark on a sheet of paper and ran it through my printer to find out which side would be printed on.
It is not a rubbery product but a muslin.  Here is what I did to design my sheet of information.

~ Open a new document in WORD
~ Make margins the most narrow so more room for label information
~ INSERT "table" and use 2 across and start with 4 down per sheet
~ TYPE your information using your favorite font
~ COPY and PASTE a photo of the rug you choose.

Depending on the amount of information you want to give will determine how many labels you will get per page.

After a whole page is set up and printed I save the document so the hard work and basic information is there.  All that is needed for the next round of labels is to change the information and change out the photo. That is IF you choose to put a photo on your label.  If you don't put a photo you will have more room for information.

Sometimes I've wanted to put a picture of the original antique from which I've adapted the rug.  And then it got to be kinda nice to have a photo on the back in case sometime the rug gets damaged the person can see how it was originally.

Making Rug Labels

In a previous post a little over a year ago I gave a tutorial of sorts for different ways to make rug labels and even showed a few different styles I've done; you can check out that post HERE.  This time I did something a little different...actually a couple somethings.  This is the back side of Cherries and Candy Stripe with the new label attached.
The first thing I did differently was to put a mini photo of the original antique rug from which my table runner was adapted.  Thought that would be good historical information, problem is I forgot to include the huge dimensions of the original on my label.  The original measured 30 x 75 and my hooked runner measures 13.5 x 33.5.  Oh well this label can be reprinted on another sheet of 8 labels in future date....but need to buy another package of the printer fabric first.

Here is a close up of the label.  Can you tell that I'm not a professional quilter as my stitches aren't consistent.
Another thing I did differently than the last sheet of labels, unfortunately,  was to use straight cut scissors instead of pinking shears to cut them out.  That I'll never do again.  That silly mistake meant that the edges of the fabric required a bead of Dritz Fray Check along all four sides of all the labels.

Here are the other labels I printed for other rugs.  Actually there are several more rugs which need a label but no more fabric printing sheets so need to purchase more.
Then the other thing done differently is not having lines printed between the two rows of 4 labels.  This time I had the forethought to remove the border lines for printing that was initially put in when setting up the Windows Table.

Have a great evening everyone.

New Rug Labels

Since all my rugs have been bound and ready for the Cape May rug show thought I'd make rug labels for them and some older rugs which had no label.

Last year at Cape May is when I started working on my Shadow girl Memorial rug from a photo.  During the labeling process decided that her photo should be on the label which was the inspiration.  Here is my Shadow girl who was a wide cut with #8 wool strips.
This is the label which I've attached to the back.  I'm so glad I decided to put a photo which was the inspiration on the back.  All I did was copy and paste a smaller picture in the label area.
Then it was onto the Rottweiler Memorial piece which was hooked way back in 2006 and never had a label.  I hadn't started labeling rugs back then, just the initials and date on the rug.  Here are my departed Rotties and they were both delightful, perfect companions.
This is the label on which I mentioned my then married name and my special loving names each dog was given by me.....Shumba-dumba and her son was Panzer-wanzer.  I used to sing, "Panzer-wanzer sitting under a tree......."
If you would like to read about how I made these labels again, or if you are new to my blog to find out how they were made click HERE.

Have a great evening everyone and enjoy this beginning of fall like weather.
