COUNTDOWN ~ JUST A WAKE UP

Not sure why I make such a production out of preparing for rug camp and get so stressed out.  Heck, it's just grabbing some wool, the pattern and packing a suitcase of clothes, right?  Wrong.  I could give you a check list of the regimen I set for myself to prepare but won't bore you with that.

Anyway, Bird on Tree Stump did get bound in time for the rug show; so I'm all caught up until the next one is finished.
Am wondering when I get home from camp if I'll concentrate on the camp rug (dog with basket) or the one which was started first ~ Giant Flower.

There are 8 rugs I'm taking this year for the rug show.  All of which have been completed since last Cape May rug camp.  Here's the list and no photos as you've seen them all before more than once.

~ Lollipop Flowers (with Caroline Twigg at Cape May last year)
~ Reclining Lamb (hooked in Caroline's class last November in OC, MD)
~ Lone Stag and Star hooked at home
~ Star and Hearts Geometric (hooked at home)
~ 1922 Fox  (another hooked at home)
~ Running Horse (yup, home alone)
~ Leroy Brown Junk Yard Dog (JYD just rolls off the tongue 😜)
~ Bird on Tree Stump (hooked at home)

Am surprised I've made this much headway on Giant Flower with yard work and other tasks to get ready for camp and am pleased so far.
Weather will be cooler near the ocean at Cape May than inland and presently rain is predicted for several days next week.   Just printed out the weather schedule.  Guess I'll be packing a raincoat for sure.
Just had a flashback of last year's Cape May when Lauren and I were battling one another via email.  You can see the results of that fight in an old post HERE.

COMING UP

Only 3 1/2 weeks until Cape May rug camp.  Since it seems to take me longer to do things these days should soon do some dying.  I've got to over dye some wool as I'll need some dirty muddy wool for my class project.  And even if not selected during color planning with Lucille I'll use it at some point at home.  Today would be a great day to pull out those dye pots since there a delightful chill in the house but must do outside work first before the heat and humidity returns.

This is what Bird on Tree Stump looks like now and think it will be finished by camp time to put in the show.  Previously told you I've already drawn out my camp project but don't have anything prepared to put on the frame once this one is done.  Gotta work on that too.  I've seen a couple that seem likely projects but haven't decided or enlarged a design yet.
Wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the space below the tree stump where the initials MB appear in the antique below.  I'd thought about having just background.  Now I'm considering putting my initials there instead mostly to make the transition from dark wool to the lighter side ~ ya know I do love a blotchy background.
Comparing my endeavor to the original antique now wish I had hooked the scrolls in #9 instead of #8.5 to get fatter scrolls.  Could have made 3 rows of wool strips instead of 2 I used most of the time, but hey, it's only a rug, it's an adaptation, and no one will ever notice unless the original is beside it.

Enjoy this crisp, dry weather while we have it as the heat and humidity isn't far behind.

COULDN'T MAKE UP MY MIND ...

...so I compromised by mixing the plaid and the solid strips together.  And am okay with that.  Here is the before, several days before ~
And this is how it looks now since the strips in the scrolls were merged.  Now I don't feel the scroll colors are too in your face as the left side in the photo above made me feel.  I'm happier with this now.
After the rain and wind I had lots of pine cones and limbs to pick up.  Today I cut grass and am hoping it can go another two weeks before it needs to be cut again.

Over 2 decades ago when this house was built I couldn't wait to get my hands in the dirt to plant flowers.  In the back behind the shed I had a compost area  ~ fed it, turned it and used it in my gardens.  But as years have crept up on me gardening is no longer fun.  I do what must be done and let the rest go.

Happy hooking or whatever makes you smile.

The Bird is Back

I want to check out the two wool options for the scrolls on the pc monitor.  Click on the photo and it should enlarge for your better viewing.   At first I chose the wool color hooked on the right side and then wondered if a more colorful option might look better.
Now that it's been hooked wonder if the more colorful texture might be too overwhelming with all four corners hooked with that choice.  This afternoon I'll work on the background and give myself time to live with the wool colors and make a decision.
