HOOKED RUGS DURING 2007

For some unknown reason this year I came nowhere near the average of 10 rugs.  Maybe because I was in the middle of a divorce and making more dolls for vending?  Not sure.

First is Crow Sampler, a Kindred Spirits design.  Thought I'd take a little creative license and do the penny circle border all the way around vs.  the original design.  Luckily there was plenty of room for me to extend the top border over and draw all the way around.  You can see the original version by clicking HERE.
Farm Scene, a design by Tonya Robey, ended up being displayed in one of her pattern booklets. Tonya provided the pattern and the wool; thanks Tonya.
WELCOME HOME, a pattern designed by Polly Minick.  In 2017 I donated this to my son for a raffle to benefit the American Legion.  You can see a single "S" as my sign because I didn't consider myself using the last initial of my future ex.  But wasn't back to Porter until final decree.
The actual date of this wool applique below is iffy.  It may have been done in 2006 but missed it in the previous post.  OR....maybe it was during 2007.  A design by Fredericksburg Rugs think it was called Folk Art Stars and I sold it at an artisan show.  I personally do not enjoy applique but admit it is easier to transport and with less bulky equipment.
At a rug camp in Cape May with Lucille Festa I hooked 1847 Turkey, a pattern in a Needl'love booklet.  The turkey still lives with me and bring it out each November.  Again, the single "S".
That is all I have documented for that year.  But could be there were other rugs or mats incorrectly dated or perhaps missed taking a photo of it before it was sold.

Those chilly days I complained about are long gone and now have oppressively hot weather yesterday and again today.  It is difficult to even breathe outside so will stay inside.

It has been a while since treating myself to this but today's lunch was the day ~ seared tuna steak and salad.   I did a marinate of 1 T soy sauce, 1/2 T honey and 1/2 T sesame oil.  Since I  didn't have sesame oil I used EVOO and crushed some sesame seeds.

A VISIT FROM TROY DUGAS

You may remember Troy, to whom I introduced you on a previous blog post.  If not, perhaps you'd like to read about that visit HERE.  He's been busy again making huge rug art incorporating his modern vision and antique adaptations.  Here is one of his latest works he named "Farm Scene".
Those horse profiles may look familiar as I've posted the antique rug on this blog before.
Dimensions of Troy's rug is 67 x 67 and to give a visual here he is standing beside the frame at the beginning.
He will have 9 rugs in his August 2nd exhibit at the Arthur Roger Gallery.  So if you live near New Orleans or plan to be there August 2nd, perhaps you like to drop by to see the show and say "hello".  You can read more about Troy, see a few of his other works and the promo for the upcoming exhibit HERE.

Troy said he'd love to have a smaller hooked version of this design and asked if I knew anyone who would do a commission of it for him.  He suggested perhaps in the range of 27 x 27.   Since I don't do commission work I'm putting that offer out there for anyone who may be interested.

Troy provided me with a perfectly square line drawing but I prefer not to put it on the web.  So if anyone is interested please email me with your contact phone number or email address and I'll forward it to Troy so the two of you can work out details.

Happy Hooking everyone, and happy sales at the Gallery to you Troy.

It's Rug Show Day Again

For your viewing pleasure here are some old rugs.  The Farm Scene below was hooked between 1900-20 and measured 29.5 x 39.5.
Dogs and Cats appears to be hooked or punched with yarn.  No dimensions or date provided.  Good use of left over worms.
Horse, birds and lollipop flowers with a braided edge was hooked early 1900's.  It measures 20 x 28.  Seems I've gone a tad color crazy as the blog progressed.
Back to more subdued colors is this Country Landscape from Pittsfield, MA, measuring 27 x 39.  No date was mentioned.
The top right corner shows a wonderful sky and border blends well with the mail colors.
A rug titled House at Night was hooked by Cecile Perrault, no date or dimensions were provided.
Here is a view of the back for those who like to see how much fading the front has endured.  You might notice there is no cotton biding or burlap showing.  That is because some women used to fold over the foundation before hooking near the edge so there is no worry about binding.....hooking thru the double layers protects the raw edge.
Ah, let's go for one more.  Two dogs with a crazy quilt style background measuring 21 x 50.
Going to be a nice mild day today ~ sunny, less humid and...NO RAIN!!!!
