More Rugs Continued....

Drew out another Magdalena rug in a smaller size since the other Magdalena rugs were rather large.  This one is nice to put on an end table or harvest table.  Forget the dimensions and am too lazy go go measure.

I saw this chair pad design in a show photo Lori Brechlin  or someone posted.  Immediately I wrote to ask if she would please make this into a paper pattern.  Turns out I wasn't the only one with that request.

July Cabin is a pattern offered in one of Barb Carroll's books.  I changed the flags on the trees to leaves of different colors and changed the direction of the smoke going more sideways.

The red horse below is half the antique rug design ~ didn't want a long rug but did want the horse and stars.

Drawing for Polly Minick certainly had its benefits as I was permitted to hook any of her designs with permission.  This one spoke to me as it seemed like a perfect quick sale at a show at the beach.  Interestingly enough it didn't sell, I still have it.

However, this design of Polly's did sell.  I'd have thought the swimsuit would go first.

Lions in the Woods is an antique adaptation.  It was obviously a popular printed pattern at the time since there are many variations of the design.  So when drawing it chose my favorite parts of antique rugs I'd viewed.  This one sold as well.  Sheesh, didn't realize I'd sold as many rugs as I did.  But not to worry, I've a crap load of rugs left and plan to list some on ebay when I return from camp.

Anyone familiar with this signage?  I'll bet a lot of you are.  Thought for sure there was a photo of her actual sign assending to her home but could not find it.  

Anyway, maybe that shape was a better prototype for me to hook a small mat gift for Barb when attending camp one May.

The antique adaptation below was a pattern gifted me by Evelyn Lawrence.  It is called Lion and Trees and was offered by Port Primitives.  This was hooked in a class with Barb Carroll.

I must have been a busy girl that year because I drew another antique adaptation which I named Ducks and Eggs Nest.  Sold a couple patterns of this one.

One year while perusing eBay was lucky enough to stumble upon a pattern I'd wanted for a LONG time.  Wee Folk by Vermont Folk Art Rugs.  

Here it is hanging over my bed with one of my well used and pitiful attempts at quilting.  It was made when I had two Rotties, you can see their images in the center.

There you have it for now.  Actually there were a couple small designs I drew but won't bore you with them right now as I've work to do and get ready for camp.

Since the weather is being a PAIN I don't know what to pack.  Plus all things stopped at noon so that mama could help out her 50+ son with a resume.  Hey, your child is your baby no matter the age, right?

But camp with be there when I get there.  Must admit that I'm feeling the need to get away.  Will deal with what is here still to do when I return.

Bumblebee Chair Pad

YIPPEE, It is finished and I love it!  I'm still not done with my lion rug but had a couple things that needed to be finished in order to take to my show in July.  One such rug was the swimsuit piece, the Beloved Belindy, an Annie doll and  this Bumblebee Chair Pad.  Here is my latest completed project, the adorable Bumblebee Chair Pad which is a design of Lori Brechlin.  The eyes are done using a technique known as 'quilling' and it certainly gives dimension and interest to the mat.

 I'll fess up to being a cheap skate ~ well, let's call it thrifty!  I hate wasting foundation when it is going to be cut away and thrown in the trash.  So when I decided to draw out the design looked for as small a piece of extra linen that was in my 'left over' pile.  There was a piece that was plenty wide enough and would fit over the grippers of my frame if a little cotton was added to the sides so I sewed some on and it fit over the grippers just fine.  However, it was going to be a little longer than I needed and no way was I going to let that go to waste either.  So I decided to hook some proddy flowers on the bottom and they will eventually be made into flower pins and will be sold in July.  This picture was taken after the extra cotton border was removed and my two rows of straight stitching and one row of zig zag was sewn all around.

I have bound round and oval rugs before so this does not intimidate me at all.  After the mat was trimmed up close to the stay stitching I did a gathering stitch all around and gathered up the backing to reduce the fullness evenly at the back.

Then it was time for the cotton binding to hide the backing and make it more eye appealing from the back view.

Cotton binding has one thicker edge which has a built-in gathering thread.  Must admit this one was a little devil trying to locate this time but once found it was no problem gathering the back so that it lays nicely and smooth.  This was a very fun project and I'm on to yet another piece which is still not the lion rug.


My dear friend Evelyn Lawrence has given me a challenge to do a small mat and do it in a Magdalena style.  I drew something out for her and sent it and she has hers done already and I'm still working on mine.  That is something for another post and I'll show you hers and mine.  But until then, ta ta!

Another day closer to Rug Camp

For some reason I just don't feel like much has been accomplished toward my preparation for rug camp (could it be because I'm on the computer AGAIN?).  Today I plan to sew the rows around my rug and cut away the excess  backing on my last remaining rug to be bound.  Since my girlfriend is driving to Ligonier I will while away the 4 hour ride while binding it.  Heck, may as well accomplish the undesirable task during the trip.  I really really LOVE the way this E.S. Frost sheep rug came out it looks so old in person and the mound the sheep is standing on does not look purple in person.

Meanwhile, I've started pulling wool for the Bumble Bee chair pad as this is what I want to hook the first evening and the next day while waiting my turn with Barb.  Oh my, but when I first started hooking my wool didn't include much texture, and the over dyeing I did was on flat natural white.  You wouldn't believe how much robins egg wool I have and that is what is going in the chair pad.  I just can't afford to not use it up ~ won't throw it away so may as well use it.  I'll mix a little texture into the background too just to give it a little umpf.

And, I just have 8 days to finish this little gift to Barb.  Didn't decide to hook it until a week ago and I've still a ways to go and bind it.  Sure hope Barb is too busy to go looking thru blogs because I want her to be surprised.  Maybe you'll recognize it.

Well I'd better get off'n this here contraption and get something accomplished.
