Request Fulfilled

After yesterday's blog post Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) wanted to see the cabinet to the left of the Christmas Cactus.  So here is photo number one with a doll in front.  This is a copper lined dry sink which my parents owned.

The Colombian antique adaptation doll I  made a few years ago.  Before rug camps I attended doll camps.  She is wearing an antique dress & bonnet.  She sits on one of those old rugs found at the thrift store which I've spoken about and an antique rocker.
The dry sink lost it's wonderful patina in this photo as the photo was probably taken too close with a flash.  We all know what a flash does with our rug photos too.
On the other side of the room you can see my antique pitcher and bowl set on an antique spool rung wash stand.  To the right of that is a pie cupboard my parents owned but the front panels had obviously been replaced before their purchase of it.
The Doll on top of the pie cupboard was also made by me and is an Izannah Walker style.  I no longer make dolls but sometimes wish I could get the desire to make them again.  But, it is that rug hook which cannot be pried out of  my hand.

Out of Hiding

Today I did a little nesting, thanks to sweet Cammie.  When I saw her blog post on Primitive Junky it made me think that my delightful hooked rugs needed to be brought out of hiding and displayed for me to enjoy every day.

Heck, I had the perfect container, an antique copper boiler which belonged to my dear departed grandfather.  Matter of fact as a child it was filled with water and used to sit in it during the summer.  My mother used that as bath time and to me it was play time.
Now some of my rugs are in clear view and can rotate them more easily and frequently. There are MANY more rugs rolled and in wire mesh baskets.  Some are ones I'd like to sell, some are small mats which are brought out for table top decorations during certain seasons and some are meant to be put on my walls.  There's more wall space along the wall below as well as other rooms.
In the same room and to the right side of th above couch along the adjacent wall is the fireplace and an E.S. Frost Sheep rug with scrolls I hooked a few years ago with Barb Carroll.   On the antique dry sink are a few dolls which were made by me and some of my friends.  The oil painted Columbian doll in the antique rocker is one I made.  Two were made, I sold one and kept this one.  She is wearing an antique baby dress but in her lap is the Challenge rug which I've started to bind.
I've got it easy tonight and tomorrow.  My son, however will be cooking and always turns out a great meal for the family.  My only task is to take an apple pie for the Princess (aka the daughter-in-love) and pumpkin pie for my son.  In return I'll bring home all the dark meat and bones on the turkey since they only like white meat.  So you know what my meals will consist of on Friday and into the future.

Friday will be dark turkey with sweet potatoes and veggies.  But there's the makin's of turkey soup too and the broth can be frozen for later.

Happy eve of Thanksgiving everyone.

Happy Place Starting Something New

Well new for me that is.  It is an oldie design by Magdalena Briner which has been named Harvey's Magdalena because it was Harvey's Art and Antiques who owned it in 1980.  Someone else owns it now I guess but it was Harvey who is the namesake.

See the bag of ugly dirty wool?  That is wool overdyed when getting ready to hook The Cat's Meow.  This will be a great bunch of worms to use here since they look so old and worn.
And, there is a glass of Pinot Noir to my right side, and just to the left of that is an oil painted Columbian Doll I made which used to have an antique dress.  You can see that same doll in the antique dress and bonnet on my home page of the web site.  But, after adopting Ben he thought she was a play toy.  NOT!!!!!!

Thankfully the doll survived but the antique bonnet and dress did not. So since that time my Columbian doll has been in her knickers and a sweater that is a family heirloom gifted me by my friend Char.  I'm keeping it safe until her daughter or son would like to have it in their family.   Actually, I think it is time for my Columbian doll to be fully covered beyond her knickers so will give her a change of clothes sooner or later.

Have a GOOD FRIDAY tomorrow.
