JUST CHIT CHAT

Just stuff to write about ...  Remember my new but useless range I purchased?  I've had several visits by technicians hired by Lowes and 3 items replaced so far.  Next week the technician I trust most is coming to replace the electrical system.  He said that since nothing else has worked this must be the problem.  So he ordered the factory part and was delivered here.  Yeah, we'll see if this is the answer, and I hope so.  If still not working I'll ask him to request a new range.

I've continued to eat my Mon-Wed-Fri green salads with no problems whatsoever.  The lettuce or salad isn't "deadly", the reporting has indicated some areas where people have had bouts of diarrhea.  

In the next couple weeks a tree service will be here to remove a gum tree and do other work.  Presently he is doing work for the areas nearby who were devastated with a tornado and/or straight-line high winds.  His company was here in 2022 and the work scheduled cost over $2,000 but he did much more than I'd even requested.  So know he will do a good job this time.  Haven't received my estimate yet but I'm anticipating around $4-$5,000 with all I need done.  I do live in the woods ya know, lol.  Seemed like such a great idea 28 years ago.  

The gum tree is just outside my front window and it is a pain to walk to fill the birdbath and tears up the yard when cutting grass the the gum balls catch everything.  While I don't have nice grass or even great green weeds to cut, at least the moss is green until it is ripped up.  Here is just a small section of gum balls.

In anticipation of the removal of this tree, I've plucked up the brick trimming, many of which were sunken into the earth after several years and will move them before the tree folks come.  

Sadly I've still not decided on my next rug project.  I have, however, drawn out something in case of an emergency fix, lol.  But would rather have something to work on which makes my heart skip a beat.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

MISC. CHIT CHAT

It's not about folklore or literature but this first part is about a cautionary tale.  Several months ago I posted about my new (not used) flat top range.  You can familiarize yourself with the background story HERE.

A repairman came in May to check it out and said that "it was normal for the temps to increase or decrease 10-20 degrees" but did make some adjustments after replacing the electric board behind the framing where the digital temp, settings, etc. are located.  

Next day I attempted to bake another chicken breast with the very same issue.  Called the store where it was purchased and said it was still not working properly and that I "could NOT live like that".  She asked more questions which were answered in good detail and another appointment was made.  But next day received a call from that same repairman saying it was normal for the temperature to vary 10-20 degrees and to get another opinion.

Yesterday a different repairman came by who had much different diagnostic equipment and very important information.  He brought in a computer and specialized ohmmeter and he could see immediate data as it was happening.  However, those changes didn't appear on the digital info on the range.  He set the oven temp at 150 (just to make the wait time shorter) and within a couple minutes the temperature increased to 175.  WTH??  Increased??

Shortly thereafter the temperature inside the oven started dropping below the 150.  He said it needed a new temperature sensor and bake element and placed the order.  Not sure when the parts will be in but he said to NOT USE THE OVEN until he returns.

The repairman said the reason the temps were dropping was to prevent the oven from catching on fire.  OMG.  If the temps increased 25* with that low setting imagine what may have happened by my setting it a 450 and then increasing above that when it started dropping.  Thank GOD I continued to look for relief or the range may have caught on fire.

It's Thursday so the news gave the weekly drought update.  Here is a screen shot of last week's report and today's report after a thunderstorm and another night of rain.  Seaford is still in the Extreme Drought red zone while the lower shore of Maryland moved up a notch into the severe.

Okay....now to a tad of hooking entertainment.  Although my Indian Peace Flag isn't quite done thought I'd do some vacuuming, dusting and start decorating for America's 250th Birthday.

In the living room you'll see photos of my boys ~ Sailor grandson and my son.  In front of them is a sweet cross stitch piece dear friend Lauren gave me along with the American Flag card.  Until I find the perfect place for showcasing the stitchery, it will be here for the birthday.  Since it is summertime thought Polly Minick's sandpail hooked rug would fit right in.

Then in the kitchen I placed the double eagles I hooked, the small jointed mohair bear and patriotic hat I made.  The Indian Peace rug would look better there me thinks, lol.  Gotta get crack'n on it again.

I've no plans for July 4th other than working on a rug.  Hopefully something new on the frame if I can find something interesting.  Happy hooking.
