CHIT CHAT

Found it, found the photo I mentioned in Cathy's post.  Before it was called AI there was an app which could insert images in photos.  below is a photo my roomie took at Cape May camp September 2010.  But noticed it has a date stamp of 2011 so I cropped the photo in 2011.  She superimposed a photo of Johnny Depp and told me to put my hand out for her to place an Oscar with me holding it.  Guess I was getting the Oscar for a supporting role with Johnny.  If only.....BTW, I loved Pirates of the Caribbean!
This photo isn't nearly as cute or impressive as the photo in Cathy's post which you can see HERE.  And her photo bought back fond memories of mine.

I hate to house clean ~ yeah I know cleanliness is next to Godliness.  Frankly I was a much better housekeeper when I had a regular job and hours at home were fewer.  Anyhoo.....while dusting a couple antiques thought I'd share them with the antique lovers.

Here's my school marm desk and the dark framed piece behind it isn't antique, it is a copy of one which has aged.   When my husband Gary worked for IBM they had a US Bond drive and he was given a copy which he framed.
Some of the items on top of the desk have a story.  Starting on the left side is a scoop my paternal grandfather made when he had a farm and which I used to scoop feed for my horse.

Can't remember where the metal red and white mammy was purchased but the one in blue is a reproduction I bought in Taiwan.  Not sure what the metal shoe on the left was used for but one time I kept tooth picks in it.  The one on the right with the candle is a cobbler's shoe that would fit on top of a metal stand.  I had the stand with a larger shoe size but took it too the thrift shop a few months ago.
The antique bowl and pitcher set I've had since before my son was adopted in 1968.  When he was crawling and would go near it I'd tell him not to touch.  One time he got close and touched and I smacked his hand and told him NO again.  He never went near them to touch again.  Greg was a perfect child....until he turned 13.  Any of you parents can relate to that I'm sure.
Yesterday I made a yummy white bean soup and it will be my lunch for today.  You can find the recipe HERE, which is promoted as an easy 10-minute soup recipe.  It didn't call for carrots or celery which I added to mine so took a couple minutes longer than 10 minutes perhaps.  At the end I didn't sprinkle parmesan on mine as I was hungry.  Perhaps at lunch today I will add it.
And finally put out my favorite Halloween rug, a design by Lori Brechlin called Nantucket Broom Ride.  The pattern is sold by Spruce Ridge and this one is shown on her web site.  Oops, I can see the back of the bench in the back needs to have the furniture oil rubbed a tad more.
Okay, that's it for today as I'm getting hungry for some soup but will wait until a little closer to noon.

Happy hooking.

A FEW OLD RUGS

This is a smorgasbord of designs which might pique someone's interest for an antique adaptation.  Some of these rugs are still listed for sale and the auction house has indicated that some people have shown an interest in purchasing.  Each time I see that notation wonder if one of the interested parties may be Jenny.

I recently drew an antique adaptation of the rug below.  The person fell in love with the border so the horse you see was not the main subject.  Another style weathervane was inserted instead.
A sweet hen and chicks, circa 1900.  Dimensions are 15.5 x 31.5.  Love that faded red barn.
Janice will like the
rabbits and anchors rug below, me thinks.  Dated circa 1900 original size is 30 x 54.
Another rabbit rug listed is this one with the chain link border.  No date was provided and it isn't as interesting to me as the one above.
A few 8 point stars said to be dated late 19th to early 20th century.
Listed as sheep no age was provided of the rug.
A nice Clipper Ship rug is listed from a Chester County, PA estate.  No date provided but looks old (27 x  42).
Look at this huge rug of hooked houses dated circa 1880.  When I saw this listing it reminded me of the cute house mats Janice Prims By the Water has hooked.  Click on her link to see a couple.  Perhaps this will inspire you or her to hook a few.
This rug of horses and foals measures 26 x 51 but no date was provided.  It is still listed for sale.
This last rug is not an antique  but most likely an adaptation of one.  But thought the story in the listing was interesting.  It was hooked 1972 by Ethel Bishop, the grandmother of Dr. Robert Bishop, Dir. of The Museum of American Folk Art.
Tomato/tomahto.  Tonight's the night I may need to cover my volunteer tomato plants.  They have provided me with luscious gourmet type tomatoes, some of which you see here.  The red ones were a tomato-come-lately but I'll take whatever fruit it provides.  Last year I had yellow tomatoes well beyond the season.
Christmas is still 2 months away and a personal hooked gift to family or friend is most special.  Plus saves you money if things are tight.  So consider drawing out a little something to hook, as there's still time to get it done before the 25th of December.  Or in Elaine's case, get those knitting needles warmed up to do a cap, scarf, socks, etc.

Just might have to turn on my heat if it gets too dang cold.  But I'll hold out for as long as possible.  Happy hooking.

THE GOOD, THE BAD and THE UGLY

The good is my Magdalena Double Horses update.  Sorry the photo is a tad blurry but not gonna take another photo this evening.  Doubt much will be hooked on it tomorrow as I've got to knuckle down and do a pattern for someone which didn't get accomplished today.
The bad is the techy crap I dealt with today regarding my Outlook email.  Actually, it started about a month ago when it required me to type in my password every time I tried to open the Outlook email on my PC.  The iPad was okay but guess it must be a WIN11 issue.  Then today I was unable to open Outlook at all and was forced to pick an ....@outlook.com address as the proxy.  All too convoluted to continue explaining which also causes me to get really ticked off all over again.

Now the ugly.  Summer is definitely over and tomorrow the high will be 66 with potential for frost on Sunday.  However, today's weather was very summery good.  Just look at my thermostat.  Actually I think the sun must have been directly on the sensor because the weatherman said local temps only reached the very high 80's, but that still broke a record.
I've a headache from today's techy issues so plan to spend the rest of the evening pulling loops...lol.  Guess that won't be for long since I go to be around 9.  Have a good evening.

JUST CHIT CHAT

Did anyone else's blog have a few hundred hits over the last couple days or was it because of my "Nose Job" headline?  I know in the past there were many of us who had an enormous amount of visits so wonder if this is another freak outbreak of something similar.

Also, have you ever eaten an Asian pear?  I hadn't until recently when someone gave me 10 huge pears.  I'd never seen pears this big and was told when they turn yellow they are ready to eat and are sweet.  I've never seen Asian pears sold at my local grocery stores.  Later that day I washed one and sliced a piece off.  It was sweet but crunchy, which surprised me.  So Googled Asian pears to learn they are crunchy like an apple, you can read about them HERE.
Above picture is only 4 of the dozen I was given.
Since then I've had chunks of sweet pears in my green salads, made a pear crisp and still have a few pears left and in the fridge.

The last couple days I've been in a turtleneck and sweats.  Look at the temperatures for the next few days.  Guess I'd better make tracks and accomplish what I can in the yard before the real cold weather comes in.
I've pulled a few more loops on Magdalena's Double Horses and will give you an update soon.  Not sure when that will be as I've yard work tomorrow and have been informed there will be a rug pattern order coming my way soon.

Happy hooking.

NOSE JOB

Bet the title got your attention, didn't it, lol.  The nose job wasn't for me, it was for a rug pattern I drew my boy Ben in and hooked several years ago named Golden in the Garden.  You can see the original pattern HERE.

The rug has been hanging in my bedroom since it was completed and every time I looked at it knew the snout was too long- he looked more like a Doberman than a Rottweiler.

This is the before.
Below is how he looks now.
Perhaps I removed too much of the nose because now the body looks too long, legs too short but was drawing in Ben over top of a dog already drawn.  If you want to see the original Golden and missed the link above, you can get there by clicking HERE.

And here is a photo of my boy from which I drew over the Golden.  Loved that boy.  Cannot believe I adopted him November 2011 and didn't have him nearly long enough.
Worked outside for a couple hours today picking up limbs and bits the tree men neglected to gather up, smoothed out tire impressions made in the yard and I'm sure I'll sleep well tonight.

TEMPTATION

I have more wool than I can use up in my lifetime and in every color combination possible.  Why then, when getting The Wool Studio samples am I tempted to buy one or two yards of the wool I see?  Hey, I quit smoking cold turkey, no patches, no hypnotization ~ just quit.  But wool?

BTW, the colors of wool you see on The Wool Studio web site are way different than the samples in a flyer.  For those of you who don't get the wool samples here is a photo below.  I particularly like Sky Bridge which is the 3rd one down in the middle sheet.  But looks so very different on the web site which is not nearly as interesting as the sample.
And just for comparison, here is a screen shot of one page on the web site which includes Sky Bridge.  I also liked Salt and Pepper but figured a good overdye of some wool already in my stash could sorta resemble that.
In other news, I'm having some tree work done and thankfully that gawd awful gum tree out front will be gone after today.  Plus other work which amounts to the cost of 71 yards of wool, 😬.  Wish I could afford to have all the gum trees removed but this one is more troublesome since it is in the very front of my house.

Here is a before photo of the gum tree but you can't see all those gum balls which are the main pain.  The guys are working in the back and side yard on other trees right now.
Here  is the after.
A humongous dead oak was removed and it was huge.  The after stump is hard to see even with the red outline.  I've still another huge oak tree closer to the house and hope it lives.  Although it was a falling branch which bent the leaf filter system just after the new roof was put on.  You'll love it in the woods they said....
A dermatologist appointment tomorrow and dread the hour drive there.  Wish there was one in my town.  But maybe I'll stop and pick up a couple things I need; but I always think that but will probably be anxious to get back home instead.  There's no place like home.

Magdalena's Double Horses Update

Actually, guess that should be 'Magdalena's one of two horses update'.  Sure appears to show my leisurely hooking of this design as not much has been accomplished since the first post on 9/20.  Think a lot of time is taken up looking thru the wool baggies ~ gotta use those strips up or they will multiply.
I'm surrounded by numerous bags of woolie worms and rather than put what I don't choose at that moment back in their respective bags, I place them on the sofa arm, end table and another table.
Why?  Figure they will be close at hand and make it easier to locate?  And when the rug is completely hooked all those strips will need to find their way back to the proper color baggie.

Today was a nice warm day and even reached the high 80's.  BUT, tomorrow temperatures will only be in the low 60's once again, with rain in the forecast.  Plans are to make soup tomorrow so I can enjoy it a couple days then freeze some for future use.

Happy Hooking everyone.
