MAKING A LITTLE HEADWAY

You'd think the hit and miss background would be a piece of cake, right?  All you need to do is pick a color from the worm bag.  Nope, I don't find it easier as you need to be sure of keeping (or trying to keep) light, medium and dark values apart from one another.  Frankly replicating a Magdalena hit and miss background I find far easier.  And yeah, for a few seconds I contemplated doing that background in something other than the hit and miss but would be straying from the antique.
I didn't use the same colors as the antique, nor did I do the higgly piggly hooking in the eagle.  But did try to stay close to the values.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Here is a photo of the original antique Patriotic Triptych rug from which a section was adapted.
Mild temps and rain on the way in a couple days.  At least I don't require heat or A/C yet!!!  Happy hooking.

  1. That is looking mighty fine Mummy D. Not only do I not have the worms for a hit n' miss background like that, but I would never have the patience. We. have had so much rain my pool is starting to overflow - and the sump pump has been running almost nonstop. There's not been a day where it has gotten warm enough to turn off the heat yet...and still dropping below freezing several nights.

  2. Lookin’ good! So are you getting bored with this? Off to a plus one soon? Do you even have a plus one? I can’t keep up with all your projects.

  3. Am loving the colors you chose. Not sure if I would even have enough worms to hook a project like this nor would I have the patience either. You are definitely making great progress on this one. Janice

  7. Looks great! I have never done a hit or miss rug maybe someday if I ever get these two big rugs done. WE are in for rain most of the weekend and next week. While we need the rain does it have to come all at once?
