A PLUS ONE?

Once upon a time this was a plus one.  However, I got bored working on the scrappy Shaker Horse so picked up Ezra's Farm which I previous was bored with.  Will try to explain my boredom with Ezra.

First of all it was an impulse buy since Lauren was hooking EZRA'S FARM and thought it was adorable so of course I wanted one too.  You know, 'keeping up with the Jones' I guess.  Or 'Lauren has one so I want one', 😏.  But I wanted to make a couple changes with mine, which wasn't spoken about on the initial posting which you can see HERE

After hooking the horse part of the design questioned my changes from the sweet original design.  I wanted a flag and wanted stars in that section in the sky.  I was stuck in my head as to design changes.  Guess there's nothing better on forcing one to 'get off the pot' than being bored with the other project.  This is what my version of Ezra's Farm looks like at the moment.
I'll work on the 'farm' until boredom sets in again then go back to the scrappy horse because I refuse to start a pile of UFOs

Hard to believe that early last week I had to put a blanket on the bed because it was chilly in the house.  And now??????  When walking by the thermostat it read 107 outside.  By the time I grabbed the camera and went back to take this photo it had dropped to 105.  Hey, 105 is still hot as hades kids!  It's too hot for man or beast outside.
Worked on binding again today and rounded the 4th corner.  So now it is just hand stitching the inside edge of the chicken pair which will continue tomorrow at 5 p.m.

RUG SHOW SMORGASBORD

The rugs I'm about show you aren't antique but some may well have been antique adaptations.  These have been documented as rugs hooked by a former member of the Duchess County Rug Hooking Guild.

According to the auction site she is selling a part of her collection.  I don't know the lady's name who is selling her rugs as it wasn't mentioned on the web site.  I can empathize with her because I've so many rugs and have my favorites which I rotate.
This rug below is my favorite out of the bunch and it might well have been an antique adaptation.  If I find the antique among my photos I may adapt the antique myself.

This rug below looks familiar and might be another adaptation.
This geometric is always a great way to downsize on worms.
This one below is also nice.
Nice floral but I'm over floral rugs at the moment.
Hmmm, the rug next also looks familiar.
This rug looks like books on a shelf but was listed just 'as a runner'.  Yet it would make another great de-wormer project.

I've seen this rug below somewhere before too.
This Sulky rug below was not among the rugs hooked by the lady above but isn't an antique.  It was found in Prince Edward Island, Canada and hooked around 1967.  Might be a 'memory' rug.
And this landscape was hooked mid 20th century so not an antique either.
That's it for today's show.  Happy hooking and I'm sure Lauren (Rugs and Pugs)  is having a blast.  She sure does get around, wonder how many hook-ins and rug camps that wandering hooker attends each year?   If you're reading this Lauren hope you are having fun and happy hooking to all.

Sunday Happenings Here

On a perfect Sunday I'd be on my way to Ocean City, MD for rug camp.  But not this year.  Hope like heck all is well by September so Rugs by The Sea takes place as scheduled.  However I probably will still carry a mask with me.

Moving along........I was envious of Lauren's accomplishments of dyeing wool particularly since I have some of the same butt-ugly brown and cream plaid wool she had and I've never used.

Decided to over-dye the wool using two different recipes:  1/4 yard with Lauren's Fraktur Black and another pot using Tonya Robey's Evening Shade.

I gathered my Cushing dyes and proceeded to open up a fresh envelope of Dark Green for the Evening Shade recipe.  Say what?  Did someone make a mistake and put the wrong dye in the envelope?  So went to my stash of dyes but that was the only package of Dark Green here.
Oh well, it looked more like a shade of blue/purple to me but what the heck......I put dye in the cup, added 1 c boiling water and took a leap of faith.

Here are the results and in the center the wool used.
On the left of the original wool is Evening Shade, on the right is Fraktur Black but mine didn't turn out like Lauren's (I'll go borrow pictures from her blog am sure she won't mind).

And on the bottom are two small pieces I added to Evening Shade when I didn't think it was going to absorb all the color.  For you non-dyers, here is an interesting fact for when you decide to dye.....not all dyes absorb at the same rate.  As the wool and dye mix had been in the pot well over 30 minutes when the small pieces were inserted, it appears the black and the Dark Green absorbed faster than Seal Brown.  That is why that piece looks  more brown.

Here was Lauren's before photo but her brown and cream plaid looks darker than mine...
And her after photo using Fraktur Black.  Her results look more grey and mine more brown.  Could it be the camera, is it the water?
Whatever it is, the wool I dyed today will be used whereas it would not have been the way it was.  Thanks Lauren for inspiring me to dye.
