On this Inauguration Day the rug show is insignificant in comparison. But perhaps the rug show will spark an idea for your own future project. Although this great dog rug was on an auction site they did not provide a date it may have been hooked. But it does have the markings of an oldie with the blotchy border. I like the colors.
A Hutchinson rug "Forget Me Not" pulled on someone's heart strings recently and hope Susan will share a photo of her rendition once it is hooked.
A landscape said to have been hooked late 19th century and measures 28 x 39.

A white cat with flower pots in corners. Again no date provided.
Waldoboro birds and flowers hooked 19th century. In rug hooking the Waldoboro style is achieved by pulling loops up high then (sculpting) trimming them to achieve a shape, in this case the shape of the birds and flowers.

In sewing/quilting, that would be called Trapunto to stitch and stuff a motif, such as the flower petals in the pillow below.
Lovely old Waldoboro Historical Society hooked rugs in a case found on-line.
For the feline lovers is another cat, black one this time, hooked early 20th century I just found on Miller and Miller.
Am sure I've posted the rug below of cat and dog before. One day I'd like to hook it. Those are scrolls on the top corners.
A rooster measuring 20 x 32, found in Quebec and said to be hooked early 20th century.
Primitive dog with checker corners and half circles in border.
Ring around the roses dated between1910-19 with dimensions of 35 x 39.

I can’t pick a favorite out of this rug show. They are all charming. The Waldoboro birds and flowers is really something!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting about the Waldoboro style...and those red birds are very vibrant. I like the border on the first rug and also like the landscaped rug. Bitter cold right now. Not good outside for man or beast. Stay warm. Hopefully Spring is around the corner. Janice
ReplyDeleteA bevy of beauties! I really like the first one, the black cat and the cat and dog. I did Waldoboro on only 2 rugs...and it wasn't my favorite technique. Flipping freezing here still and the extreme cold/weather advisory keeps getting extended. It's almost noon here, the sun is out, and we've only gotten to -14º (windchill of -20). Woke up to -29º FFS.... ~et~ (PS...I still hope Susan doesn't hook cat whiskers on that gentleman. ;-) )
ReplyDeleteBlogger gave me fits this morning when I tried to leave a comment ....
ReplyDeleteThis was a great display of neat rugs. The Waldoboro technique looks interesting , but ,I don't think I will give that a try . It is freezing cold here today .....but we have a few more days of this .....I'm looking forward to Spring & we have months to go !
You always provide us with such antique eye candy. Thanks ;-)
