Here's an update on the present rug on my frame which was aptly named "Animals Great and Small". At first I couldn't figure out what that top right red image was. But just now realized it resembles the shape of a horse's hoof with frog in the middle. Since it is an antique, the designer not around, I'll never know for sure what it is.
Today I finally steamed Magdalena's Animal Parade and will begin binding it for an hour or so at a time beginning Monday during The Five TV show. Thought I'd better get that one started before adding this one to the pile.
In other news, I drew an 11 Star Flag adaptation for a customer and it will ship Monday. Here is a photo of one hooked by another customer who ordered it.
Also, registration forms for Cape May rug camp (held each September) have been mailed out and I've decided to not attend for the first time in 22 years. Since the leadership change over, the camp is no longer worth my money nor my time. The staff at the Chalfonte Hotel are great, food was good, loved my teacher Lucille Festa. But the organizers leave a lot to be desired with their lack of preparation and only one primitive teacher. I tried two camps under the new leadership hoping the second year would be better than the first. But it wasn't and not going this year!

The title of your rug reminds me of the lovely show on PBS all creatures great and small. I think primitive teachers are in great demand Michelle Palmer is booked year
ReplyDeleteYears in advance. If you ever get a chance at her class take it she is amazing.
Cathy
Holy hell woman! You are almost halfway done already.
ReplyDeleteOh I like that patriotic rug.
Too bad about Cape May 😢. I had someday hoped to attend, but with the distance and cost and now your negative review, probably won’t be happening. Cedar Lakes rug camp doesn’t have a primitive teacher so I will not be attending this year. As you know, there is a huge difference between a teacher who can teach primitive and a primitive teacher!
Well let’s see if this comment will actually post from my iPad, even though as “anonymous”. In the past it never did work.

What lovely rugs. Since I have never been even to one camp, I think its interesting about you not going. So I have a question, it has something I have noticed and wonder if you have too. I will always be a primitive hooker. I think the other kind are very pretty and very nice. But my roots are in the primitive. Has something changed these last few years? Have you noticed that?
ReplyDeleteEach and every critter is a delight! And like GT said your progress is AMAZING! I'm sorry to hear that Cape May has changed into a disappointment as I know how much you always looked forward to going. As you know, I don't go to any camps/workshops/retreats/whatever! other than the one at Cathy's (and I think I've only been doing that the past 4 or 5 years) so I can't relate to what it must be like to not have a primitive teacher. That star rug is wonderful! I really like the unexpected browns/earth-tones surrounding the flag. And it looks like it would be fun to hook. ~Robin~ (PS...maybe I will join you across the miles and start binding for an hour at that time.... ;-) )
ReplyDeleteYour rug is great ! So sorry about your Cape May hook in ....hope you find another one to go to . Heavens To Betsy was such a fun time , but she has retired , it wasn't far to drive which made it nice & easy . Think lots of very talented crafters are retiring now too ....just that time in their lives where travel & packing up everything just is too much work . Love your Flag & Star pattern , it was hooked in such pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteYou got a lot done on that Creatures great and Small.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the Cape May Rug Camp disappointment. At least, you won't be wasting your time and money. You always do such a great job.
Take care, hugs.
