SHADOW SLEIGHRIDE UPDATE

Sorry to bore you with another update but nothing else is happening in my life.  Some progress has been made on my rug, which I started about 10 days ago.  So far my attempt at hooking trees in the distance doesn't seem to be working.  Didn't intend for it to look like a forest, just a few other trees implied in the background.  Will continue in hopes that once hooked it will have a hint there are other trees in the vicinity.

That said, am wondering if I should replace those light strips from the limbs of the distant tree.  Maybe keep them there for now and see what it looks like when other further away trees are hooked.
Today I'd planned to start working on the sleigh.  Then remembered in class a teacher taught us to 'hook what's on top first'.  So guess I'll be working on the man with a hat and beard.

Yesterday I made a pot of unstuffed cabbage rolls and it was delicious.  It's an easy recipe, the only thing that takes time is cutting up the cabbage.  But perhaps not as bad as if I had to parboil the cabbage leaves and roll all the meat up into logs.  I also chopped 2 stalks of celery in mine.  If you want the recipe you can find it HERE.

Am going to venture out today for the grocery store.  As the snow froze solid with the freezing rain on top of the snow, my feet walk on top of the ice.  Obviously the tires on my 1,500 pound vehicle will penetrate the ice making a ridge down my long driveway.  Hope I can get out and back without a problem with the single digit temps.  BTW, normally this area would be in the 40's, so the weatherman stated yesterday.

Happy hooking everyone.

BLUE BOWL of FLOWERS

During the snow storm I stayed hunkered down and worked on the antique adaptation Blue Bowl of Flowers.  Just felt like hooking a larger pattern for a change so drew it 30 x 41 but if anyone wanted a smaller size I'd be happy to do that.
Below is the original antique which I've had on my flash drive since 2014.  I also plan to hook my flowers in pastels, which I'm sure was faded in the original rug.
Do you like cabbage rolls?  I love them but they are a lot of work.  Yesterday I  made a pot of Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls from a recipe found on line.  As with patterns I made changes to the recipe;  I used 1 pound of ground turkey instead of 2 pounds of ground beef,  used more onion and 2 stalks of celery.  And chopped up two carrots for the pot.  Below is a picture of today's lunch.
Guess I should have done what chefs do before serving a dish...wiped around the edge of my bowl.  But stirring it after the microwave made my bowl look messy but was still delicious.

My Granny adaptation is back on the frame and will be the subject of my next blog post and with any updated photos from other participants.  Tomorrow is February and while it appears time is passing us by quickly, the cold reminds me it is STILL winter.

Happy hooking.

WORK and PLAY

A couple loyal customers ordered patterns recently.  A Magdalena design was drawn last week, two patterns drawn yesterday and  shipped today.  Two designs were in the order to the same customer today ~ one being an adaptation of Hearts and Penny Flowers below.
As well as Horses and Hearts antique adaptation below.
The other WORK is cooking.  I do love to eat but hate spending hours in the kitchen.  That is why making a pot of soup or cooking a meal where there are leftovers for me to heat up is delightful.

I love stuffed cabbage but the traditional way requires a LOT of work.  So lucky me stumbled upon a recipe named "Unstuffed Cabbage Roll".  This is a photo of the still simmering dutch oven.  You can see some of the cabbage is still not totally cooked and before adding more tomato sauce and or water.
If interested, here is the recipe.  I made alterations and will let you know what changes I made so you can decide how to do your own.

UNSTUFFED CABBAGE ROLL

INGREDIENTS:
2 lbs ground beef (I used ground turkey)
1 large onion (I used 2 onions)
1 small head of cabbage, chopped
2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce (I used 2)
1/2 cup water (I added more as needed)
2 cloves garlic, minced (I used 3)
2 teaspoons salt (I used MUCH LESS + used sour salt)
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
PLUS... I added 2 stalks celery.

DIRECTIONS:
Heat dutch oven or large skillet over medium-high heat.  Cook and stir ground meat and onion in the hot dutch oven until browned and crumbly, 5-7 minutes.  Drain and discard grease.  Add cabbage, tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, garlic, salt and pepper.  Bring to a boil, cover dutch oven, reduce heat and simmer until cabbage is tender.

In case you didn't know, "sour salt" is citric acid.  In watching some health program a few years ago they mentioned the term sour salt and was confused.  Went to the local health food store and they didn't know what I was talking about.  So did a google search to learn what it was.  HA!  low and behold I had some anyway because it is a mordant for dying wool.

Not sure if the next on the list I consider work or play.  But did cut more quilt pieces for my star quilt whenever sewing starts again.  But what is considered PLAY is that wool containers were opened up and wool spread out to pick wool for my next project.  Yeah, even tho this Goat isn't done just couldn't contain myself.
