Still Celebrating

Yesterday was a 'winner winner turkey dinner' day for a few reasons.  As my wonderful DIL wasn’t feeling well a couple days ago and had no taste I decided to not visit my son yesterday.  Plus her family from PA came to visit and didn’t want to expose myself to a group of people in close quarters.  My grandson delivered my turkey and all the sides to me and I sent him on his way taking a pumpkin pie I'd cooked for them.    There was plenty and even enough for my lunch today.

I have absolutely no idea why my print is so erratic.

The best thing is both pallets of rocks were sold!!!!!!!!!!  Word got around the neighborhood that I had rocks that I was going to sell and a neighbor wanted to put in a rock walkway.  The driver of the 4-wheeler is Justin (buyer) and the one in the back is Chris, another neighbor helping.
One pallet leaving.
And the second one almost out of sight ~ good riddance and my work was profitable.  Was told a pallet of those rocks would be approximately $350 per pallet.  I asked the neighbor (the other neighbor not the buyer) if $150 per pallet would be a fair price.  He said it was very fair so I've $300 extra in my pocket.
The cherry on top is that Chris wants the landscaping wood for his back yard near the stream which runs around our development.  Naturally he can have those for free for the takeaway.  He may even want those sandbags which are sandwiched between the heavy liner and wood framing.  This is a picture taken before digging out all the plants.
So yes, I'm still celebrating.  This afternoon my son is bringing me all the turkey leftovers (dark meat and bones) and I'll make some turkey stew one day soon and freeze some goodies for soup for another time.  A winner winner turkey dinner indeed.

This morning I hung another rug on the wall.  It is the rug to the far right and in order to hang it had to  move that TV gently to get back there with the stool.
If you can't see it, here it is again.  Brave Hunter an antique adaptation I purchased from Woolley Fox when Barb owned it and hooked it in her class in 2010.
My belly is telling me it's hungry so getting ready to heat up more leftover turkey.  TaTa.

Happy Hooking.

Olde Hearts Again

Wanted to see how the rug looks on the computer monitor so thought I'd show you as well.
Although the bottom right corner was changed a tad I'm still not liking it.  Will definitely change it more.  The left bottom is better but still not suitable.  There is a line I'll re-direct to see if I like it better.

Something else which I  notice but wasn't even looking for.... the center motif has hardly no darker textures as are in the border.  Maybe it needs a couple strips just to balance the look.

To be continued.....

Sheep Update

At least the major motif and background is all hooked and now working on the border.  For anyone just reading my blog, this was originally a pattern named Flag Day Sheep which I took creative license to make more like Woolley Sheep.  Both of those designs are a Woolley Fox design.
So far all of the wool used for the blocks in the border are from my worm stash.  A lot of the sky and ground color also came from my worms with a few cut strips for a little consistency.  Am hoping to use nothing but left over worms for the remaining border but it takes time to search thru the baggies of colors for just the right value of just the right color. Yet I am enjoying this rug very much and can't wait to put it on the floor.  Could be this one will be bound before the rug just hooked, which was a design by Tonya Robey

Slow as she goes...... That is how the binding process is going with A Day in the Country, by Tonya.  I did do the preliminary machine stitching 1/4" away from the last hooked row, then two rows of straight stitching and one row of zig zag 1" away from the last row of hooking, then trimmed the excess away. Now it is resting until I get in the mood to start whipping.  Hey, don't want to rush into anything, lol.

Hope you have a great evening, already 6 days into the 2016.  Sheesh, where does the time go?

Officially Finished

Yup, I'm calling it officially finished....mission accomplished to have it all hooked and be bound on the way to Barb's (I'm a passenger).  For those of you just catching this blog, I used #8 and #8.5 wool strips and LOTS of left over strips in whatever size.  As I wanted a smaller rug drew this out myself and it measures 18 x 27.
I'm liking this rug much better after pulling out the light blue and the teal.  Since taking classes with Barb it is now imperative for me to have a little purple in my rugs...because that is "what BARB would do".  What's so ironic is that the very first class I had with Barb and she was helping me color plan she asked what I thought about purple.  My answer was honest....I don't particularly care for that color.  I think it was due to my ugly crochet afghan in various purples to go with the lavender walls I painted in a bedroom when I was early 20's.    That afghan has long since vanished but Barb renewed my like for the color.

This is what it looked liked yesterday afternoon.
Believe it or not I've even cleaned up my woollie worms and separated them into the appropriate color bags and vacuumed up the wool room carpet.

Still lots more to do here before I leave ~ yard must be cut tomorrow!  Even tho it needed to be cut yesterday it was too warm and today was hotter at a readin of 94* last time I looked.  Tomorrow will be about 20* cooler with the cold front moving thru.  And which also explains why my arthritis is giving me fits.

Have a great night everyone.

Just When is a Rug Done?

Usually a rug is considered finished after all the loops have been pulled, steamed and bound in whichever manner we choose.  But then sometimes we decide it isn't quite done yet.

This rug below I hooked in 2011 and it has been rolled up until yesterday when I hung it on my bedroom wall.  As I'm looking at it wonder if it would look better to have a narrow needle felted line along the top of the roof.  Hmm, you can tell the difference between the sky and roof .....
........but let's see what it looks like with a quick lopi needle felting around the top.  It is only temporarily there just for me to see if I like it or not.  Guess it really isn't needed.
The design is called "July Cabin" by Barb Carroll.  It was a free pattern (to be enlarged) in this book.
This is what the design was intended to look like but as you can see I took liberties to make the design for me.  For easier comparison I've posted my version just below this picture.
I changed the flags on the trees to various colors of fall type leaves, changed the direction of the smoke since I wanted my rug smaller.  Instead of having the trees in pots made mine look like they were in the ground, removed the cat on the roof and added more stars.

The sheep were hooked using Icelandic Lopi and that is what I needle felted along the top of the roof.  Think I'll live with the lopi across the roof for today but maybe the rug really was done when I first thought it was done.

Am still pondering what will go on my frame next.  Looking thru Barb's book gave me more to choose from as it had been a while since opening the book.  BUT, there are already lots of Woolley Fox designs, a Karen Kahle pattern, Maggie Bonanomi design and more than I can remember that are in drawers here.

Have a great weekend, stay warm and be kind to one another.
