Sewing Labels On

I'll give you folks a break from rugs I've hooked and present two rug labels just sewn on.  In previous posts have shown you how I do printed fabric labels with more than one label per sheet.  Tap that highlighted link above to see the info.

But NOW...... instead of stitching on a thin cotton label onto the back of the rug I'm doing something different.  Why didn't I think of this before?

I have machine stitched the cotton label onto a piece of felt and hand sewed the felt to the back of the rug.  You can see this rug was bound using the wool whipped edge and the wool came from Ali Strebel.  It is a nicely dyed wool complimenting the Magdalena Goat rug.
Yeah, the rug is a little wonky even after steaming, pulling and stretching.  It is what happens when there are curves, circles in curves and just the dynamics of the hooking process which makes the rug go wonky at the sides.  But hey, isn't this which makes us love the antique rugs, right?

Another label sewed on today was for Olde Hearts. The photo of a rug on the label was one replicated of the original antique.  Sadly my printer ink levels were low so the labels were not clear.
However, I like this new method of sewing the cotton printed label onto the felt first.

Now back to working on the bottom of the Gossip rug.  Must admit that I'll be happy when this BIG MOMMA is done so that I can move on.

Happy Monday.

Friday Finish FINALLY!!!!!

It seems forever since this beauty was started.  Must admit it was a FUN piece to hook but the binding part....not so much.   Olde Hearts still needs to have the final steaming ~ it was steamed once and bound so needs a final steam.
You can purchase this antique adaptation from Woolley Fox but the border on the pattern offered is a bit different than shown here.

Now to finish the Gossip pattern and my grandson's Christmas gift.  I mean.... Christmas is just 6 months away.

Delaware is back to the HOT HUMID JULY temperatures we are known for.  But those few days of low humidity and subtle wind was wonderful while it lasted.

Happy Friday Eve y'all.

Last Loop Pulled

Pulled the last loop and steamed the Olde Hearts rug.  Now it is awaiting its turn to be bound.
The photo is taken with a flash since it is rainy and gloomy (AGAIN and for week two).  As a lot of us usually say...it isn't as light and bright as the picture shows.

First in line for binding is the whipped edge of Magdalena's Goat and I'm about halfway done.  Since I cannot stand to be sequestered for the duration of constant whipping only work on it a little at a time.

I've lost a follower ~ although I shouldn't, I always take it to heart when someone chooses to leave me.  Gee, lol, wonder why that is? Could it be that I liken it to a real relationship, as in a marriage rather than a cyber connection?  Oh well, there's more follower's in the sea, as the saying goes.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, hope you are dry and having fun pulling loops.

Olde Hearts Corners

Just love this pattern Olde Hearts (by Woolley Fox) but had issues hooking the corners trying different approaches and nothing seemed to please me.
Above is what the rug looks like now and am 'okay' with it for now but you know me..... might end up replacing a strip or two eventually.  In all honesty I'd probably never notice once the rug was on the floor, it is during the hooking process when the rug is just under my nose when it's an issue

Below is one way I tried the corner but didn't like it.
I have started whipping the edge of Magdalena's Goat also but since binding isn't my favorite part of the hooking process it will take a while for me to finish that.

Another day of 95 degree weather, whew, from heat to A/C.

Olde Hearts Again

Wanted to see how the rug looks on the computer monitor so thought I'd show you as well.
Although the bottom right corner was changed a tad I'm still not liking it.  Will definitely change it more.  The left bottom is better but still not suitable.  There is a line I'll re-direct to see if I like it better.

Something else which I  notice but wasn't even looking for.... the center motif has hardly no darker textures as are in the border.  Maybe it needs a couple strips just to balance the look.

To be continued.....

The Border

Don't go get'n your knickers in a twist because I'm not talking about THAT border.  I'm talking about the border of my Olde Hearts rug 😉.

But first will show you how the center looks all hooked.  As previously mentioned I'm changing the border to suit me and will attempt to replicate the one I admired which Barb Carroll hooked.  No way mine will come close to her antique style but will attempt.
Am sure the pattern below looks a mess as I've extended the border line (drawn in red) and also did the pre-binding rows of stitching as it is easier before a rug is hooked.  Or at least it is easier for me than manipulating a heavy rug around a sewing machine after it is hooked.
So far my border accomplishment is minimal, only the bottom right corner has been hooked.  For the rest of the evening I'll work on the pre-whipping work on the Magdalena Goat rug.

Tomorrow not much hooking will happen as it will be a joy ride (NOT) taking Ben to the vet.  He has had an enlarged spleen which needs continual screenings to be sure nothing bad is happening there.  Plus he needs new Heartguard prevention meds and his weight sometimes fluctuates over 100 pounds which requires an additional puppy pill.
$o to the vet we go tomorrow.  Ben loves to ride in a car but walking him can be dangerous as he wants to chase them.  While he loves riding in cars, he is as aggressive in the back of the van toward moving vehicles as when being walked. That is why it is NOT fun to take him for a ride.  He is so perfect in every other way but hey.... no male (beast or man) is perfect are they????

Happy Tuesday.

Olde Hearts

Have I been away so long you forgot what I am hooking?  In case you don't remember, I'm hooking Olde Hearts, an antique adaptation which was purchased from Woolley Fox.
In the picture above already see at least one spot which will be replaced as soon as I get off the computer.  Am still wondering about the top very center in the V and wonder if I should use the same herringbone which appears in three striped sections and that same lighter color in the hearts.  Will keep it in for now but definitely will remove the darker oval in the 'whats it' on the left side.

Am now smiling as I'm using the term "whats it" which my friend Barb Carroll used last year at camp.  She refers to motifs which are unable to be described by any other name as a 'whats it'. That motif isn't a tree, isn't a flower... its a 'whats it'.  Thinking of you Barb and looking forward to seeing you in May.

I've cropped the border as that will be hooked last.  Normally I hook the border along with the rest of the rug but not this time.  Hope you have a great evening, have enjoyed the last three days of rain for the farmers and my weeds but now am ready for sunshine tomorrow.

Photo Omitted from Yesterday's Post

In yesterday's post I made a plea for a photo of the original photo of Olde Hearts.  A couple very helpful readers wrote me to say they found this one with my name associated to it on Pinterest.
As it is such a blurry photo didn't think it worth mentioning.  Anyway, Sally Van Nuys (Amherst Antiques) was kind enough to share this photo with me but I found it impossible to render a likeness from the photo and enlarged the blur would have been worse.

I thanked Sally for sharing and said if I ever found a clear photo of the original antique I would share it with her.

To those of you who took the time to research for me, I thank you. Guess I should have mentioned this in yesterday's post after all.

Happy Saturday.

Two Hearts are Better than One

And there's another heart.
In case the photos of the small sections of the pattern on my frame didn't strike a cord....it is a design called Olde Hearts.  It is an antique adaptation and really wanted to draw my own but couldn't find a photo of the original antique ~ so purchased mine from Woolley Fox.

The jury (me) is still out on that light circle so it might appear different next time you see it.

Now a plea to all my antique rug hooking friends....IF, you have a photo of the original antique rug from which this design was adapted, I would LOVE to have a copy for my files.

Happy Friday for you worker bees out there.  To this retiree every day is a weekend.
