RUG SHOW TYME

A colorful rug of a cottage with 2 chimneys, no date or dimensions provided.  Think I know someone who will like this, right Elaine?

This next one takes time to decipher ~ it's a deer and rabbit.  Too much going on for me with the elaborate border and elements inside.  It measures a whopping 68 x 94.  

 

It definitely was hooked and not manufactured as here is a close up of deer face.

A more calming rug is bowl of flowers.

A chair pad hooked on burlap, 15.5 x 15.5.

Another Eagle rug but this one with a rattlesnake.  The rattlesnake has been used in the "don't tread on me" or Gadsden flag.  You can read about the Gadsden flag HERE.

Another big rug of a cat which could be given a name of Whiskers, measures 42 x 52.  The border is rather busy.  It was hooked early 20th century.

Here's another busy background with kittens.  It was hooked early 20th century and measures 29 x 42.

With limited colors this rooster and hen rug looks great.  Size is 33 x 38.

Think this post needs a dog and a horse to make it complete.  Here's a prancing red horse hooked early 20th century.    

A hooked and shirred rug, no date provided but measures 26 x 49.5.

Am going to venture outside this chilly day, pick up pinecones and cut the weeds in the very front yard.  Not sure how it will go in the backyard as the overgrown lake still resides back there with this low elevation property.  But in the afternoon I'll be hooking and binding.  Oh, and doing some sketching for a future pattern or two.

JUST ANOTHER RUG SHOW

I was so tempted to show you what has been hooked so far on Animals Great and Small but fought off that temptation until more is hooked.  Perhaps that will build up a little anticipation for when it is posted.

This is quite a colorful floral and scrolls design, circa 1900.

A horse drawn carriage measuring 23.5 x 43.5 but no date was provided.

A stag lounging in the rose garden, no date but dimensions are 21 x 36.

A simple flower hooked mid 20th century so not copywrite free.  But is is easy on the eyes.

An urn with flower and meandering vine border said to be hooked late 19th century.

This hen and chicks rug was hooked early 20th century and was the inspiration for Barb Carrol's pattern "Purple Peeps".

Two deer hooked early 20th century using silk, wool and cotton on burlap. 

A floral in basket appears to be hooked Waldoboro style.

For feline lovers, cats dressed in green bows hooked early 20th century.

And for the canine lovers I give you Bob and Rose.  Rug quoted as hooked circa 1920 and measures 26.5 x 64.  Interesting that the person who hooked the dog rug went out of their way to hook those + in the background.

Recently had the urge to grow more sprouts for my salads.  I've had alfalfa and broccoli sprouts and this time I put some of both seeds in my jar.  My favorite are the broccoli sprouts tho.  First photo is the sprouts in the jar.  I usually grow enough for just 2 meals of salad so the sprouts are fresh.  

And now on the salad.  It was a healthy and yummy salad.  If you want to see the health benefits of sprouts you can read about it HERE.

You can order sprouts from Amazon if you don't have a health food store near you.  Since I grow sprouts for one person I wanted smaller jars with drain screen top and purchased them from Amazon too.

VINTAGE RUG REVIEW

Take a look at some of my recent finds of old rugs.  Soon there will be more birds flocking to our feeders with the anticipation of spring-like weather.  Here is a rug with 5 birds which was said to be hooked early 20th century.  

A wonderful geometric which was in a photo of a group of three for auction.  This was the best (in my opinion) and no other info was provided on any.

Red horse with thistles in the corners.  Again no dimensions or date provided.

Floral geometric.  At first glance my thought was the end motifs were stylized bee skeps, what say you?

Prancing horses hooked late 19th century and measures 40 x 51.  I think the curled design around the horses is to represent a rope... me thinks, lol.

Oh I love this stag, and if I'd seen it earlier this might have been my choice to hook instead of the last stag project.  But I would have chosen a different color for the flowers other than pink.  Hooked 19th century and measures 28.5 x 34.

Rug Eye Candy

I try to do a blog post every other day but yesterday I forgot and am off schedule...again.  Well you know what that means...a rug show.  Doubt anyone is upset about that tho. 

There is something about red, black and gold together which make an outstanding rug.  And so does this one with red flowers and leaves in corner.  It measures 32 x 43.

This Horse and Roosters rug I've liked and had this photo for a while.  Said to be hooked in 1902 but don't have dimensions.  Sorry for the blurry look but the copy I have saved doesn't have high pixel count.  Wish I did have a better photo of it.  So if anyone has a better picture could you send it to me please.

Landscape from the1900s was hooked on burlap with old fabrics.  It measures a huge 72 x 84.

For some reason I always think of deer rugs as being a winter rug, tho I've Woodland Deer hanging on the living room wall all year long.  Below is a deer with flowers and wool tongue border.

An interesting hooked rug of another deer and dog rug which measures 47.5 x 54.  Sorry but have no date when it was hooked.

From the shape and size I'm guessing this was a chair pad.  The black cat was hooked 1920 and measures 14 x 14.5.

The following rug depicting farmers harvesting potatoes has all the signs of it being a Barbara Merry rug but the listing didn't mention her name.  It measures 29.5 x 34 and said to be hooked 20th century.

A well worn pot of dainty flowers hooked early 20th century which measures 36 x 45.

I recently found another antique rug which made my heart skip a beat when I saw it but decided not to show it this time as I'm considering hooking it between Bird Dog and a Granny Donaldson cow blanket design I've chosen.  

Here is the one I'm planning to draw (at this time) ~ but you know me, I'm fickle and might change my mind on which design by the time Lauren, Sheila and Nancy are ready to join me.

Look'n at Vintage Rugs

Although I've already decided what I'll hook after Magdalena's Bird Dog it is always great fun to look at antique rugs.  There's a lot going on in this first rug....a skunk and farm animals, a dog on the left bigger than the horse on the right, and is that a bear in the back carrying someone?  

This is a view of the back to see the non-faded colors.  It measures 33 x 51 but don't have a date.

This Amish Folk Floral measures 25 x 37 and hooked early 1900s.

A very detailed country home rug hooked by Anthony Weatherby of Canada.  Sorry but I don't have dimensions.

Folk art black cats sold for $2,150 on ebay.

This rug named Horse For Danny measures 37 x 48 but there is no date.  The rug is drawn and hooked with such detail I'm wondering if Danny was a child with no left arm and the horse was a very gentle equine.

This rug really got me wondering if it could possibly be a Knights Templar Ship ~ you see I watch the Oak Island show on the History channel.  The rug is from  Sturbridge, MA and measures 22 x 38.  This is the back and dang if I can find the front view on my flash drive.

Another landscape with dog, bridge home and trees said to be hooked 1930-40 and has seen its share of abuse during that time.  It measures 20 x 36.
