A mini-Rug Show

Will show a few vintage animal rugs which caught my interest.  The horse rug below sold on ebay for $265 but I didn't see the rug until after the fact.  Heck, I'd have paid that for it myself.  I love the faded eggplant color at the bottom.
Scrappy hit and miss blocks frame a white cat.
The two rugs below came from the same estate in Delaware Ohio. Hooked in the early 20th century are beavers and scrolls.....
.......and a primitive folky lion.
I really like the rug below but wonder if it really is antique.  The edges seem to be too well preserved plus on the left side it appears to be foundation backing.  So maybe it had just been hooked and needed binding.  But I still think it is cute as the dickens.
The alert cat on red background was said to have been hooked between 1920 and 1940.
I have been informed by Margaret Zenk that the word Renard is French for the word FOX.  When I looked at the tail thought it looked more fox like but then wondered who would name a wild fox, lol. Thanks much Margaret, for the education.
The smiling cat below was to have been hooked early 19th century. Nice soft hit and miss background.
Am hoping this show will keep my followers entertained while I buy more time to finish that one feather on the Gossip rug.  Happy Saturday everyone.

  3. Love the rug show! I especially like the background on Renard - which is French for fox! Makes sense when you look at the head and tail...

  4. Thanks for the great rug show. I'm French and I agree with Margaret. Renard means Fox.

How about you giving us a show of all your own hooked rugs next time. I know it's a lot of work but it would be very interesting to see.

    Have a lovely weekend
Smiles & hugs or should I say Smiles & rugs.

  8. Great rugs and love the whimsical characters in the 5th rug, does seem very naive and the colors seem like hand dyed with a limited palette.
