RUG HOOKING CHIT CHAT

Am sure many of us have way too many magazines on their shelves or somewhere in the house and I'm guilty of that.  I promised myself to not subscribe to Primitive Quilts and Projects when my subscription was going to lapse.  I failed to keep that promise and subscribed again going until 2025.  Foolish I know.

Just received my Winter 2023 issue and on the cover top left look at what it says  ... "Our final print issue".
So until my subscription ends in 2025 they will be sent via email.  At least I can save any interesting hooking patterns without adding magazines to my overwhelming stash.

In the latest issue of Rug Hooking Magazine there is an article on a book excerpt about Louisa Creed.  Not sure if you remember but I showed several rugs hooked by Louisa and her departed husband Lewis.  You can see those previous posts HERE.
Again I've promised myself to not renew my subscription when this subscription ends.  Hope I keep that promise.  One subscription I will continue to support is ATHA as it offers more than the other two IMHO.
Uh, anyone want to buy a particular issue of RHM or Primitive Quilts and Projects?  If so contact me.

Just sat down to pull a few loops as I was busy most of the day and want to make a little progress on the sheep.  Happy hooking.

Do You Have This?

Do you have this issue of ATHA magazine?  It is the Oct/Nov 2023 issue.
If so turn to page 45 to see Lauren's (Rugs and Pugs) Fall Trio she submitted.  So our girl has been published!

Plus, there are two great free pattern inserts, one is a turkey and the other a snowman with a shovel.  Actually I feel ATHA magazine is more informative and interesting than Rug Hooking magazine has become.   If you would like to join ATHA click HERE.

Maryland Shores Rug Show

For those of you who may not know the April rug camp teachers are all McGowan Certified, therefore the majority of the rugs you're about to see would be McGowan designs.  Also most would be fine cut.  After I started attending this camp they did change the rules so that now anyone's pattern may be taken to this camp.

The first two rugs appear to be a wide cut and wonderfully hooked by Cheri Reid. Cheri usually hooks huge rugs.

Am unable to see the name of the hooker in the photo which is the case with several pictures.
A geometric.
And even an applique.
Below is a pattern named "A bag full of Goodies" and hooked by Linda Panella.
The Notre Dame Gargoyle design hooked by teacher Anna Knap which I'm sure many of you have seen in RHM.
Another by Anna below.
This Circles in Circles rug appeals to me.
Was surprised to see a design called Daleview Farm designed by Polly Minick and I drew a number of these patterns for Polly before she sold the business.
Betty Burbage hooked this sweet dog below.

Notice that hooked key and key hole in the geometric?  Cool isn't it?

Pam Brune hooked the Heart designed rug.
A beautiful fox hooked by Peg Dutton,  the photo appeared in the latest ATHA magazine but her name wasn't mentioned.  The pattern is offered by The Wool Farm.
Oh my, what a beauty and I forgot the name of the hooker.  LOVE IT!
Another huge rug with wonderful colors and sadly the info is too blurry for me to tell who hooked it.
Loris hooked this Cindy Irwin pattern then the hooking is given back to Cindy and she has her contact put it in the purse design chosen by the hooker.  This is very nice....
..but this one is wonderful !!!!!!

It's been a long time since I've seen the name Potted Pear or a finished rug by that name; wish she would bring back her web site.
The sheep's head and horns were done Waldoboro style and flowers proddy.
The geometric is done with nice soft colors.
Last, but definitely not least, is the wedding dress designed and hooked by Cindy Irwin.  Notice those delicate flowers and buds cascading down the front of the skirt?   Click on the photo for it to enlarge so you can see the detail.
That is the technique Cindy taught us in the event we wanted to make some to display in our home in a vase.
Yeah, I know you want to see what I've accomplished on my mother's profile.  But have been occupied with doctor appointment,  laundry, well, you know just life moving on and little time hooking.

Happy hooking, maybe some of you are doing some of that 😒

BACK to the BEGINNING

Well maybe not way back to the beginning.  In a previous post about the background of The Shield antique adaptation I questioned my original idea of doing a hit and miss background trying to keep the integrity of the antique.  So did some reverse hooking; then after several of you confirmed you liked the hit and miss I reverse hooked that other choice.  Here is what the 'other choice' looked like.
Why did I question my original plan, insecurity at my age????  Perhaps I should have waited to reverse hook until I'd heard the jury's decision because as soon as the jury was in, those background loops were reverse hooked immediately and went back to plan #1.  This is what it looks like now.
There's no going back now baby!  The hit and miss background is it and am happy.

On another note about the recent Challenge, several of you participants  suggested I do an article for ATHA, Rug Hooking Magazine, or even contact the organizer of Sauder to display the pieces.  A couple days ago I wrote to the organizer of Sauder with a link to the blog on the challenge but have not heard back.  Today I emailed the Editor of ATHA but haven't yet heard back.

Here's what you should know if the pieces go to Sauder each participant would need to ship them (am guessing at their expense) and would be gone for a duration of time.  I've never sent anything to Sauder so don't know anything else.

IF an article is approved for ATHA a very good straight photo would need to be taken with high pixels (best setting on your camera).

Would you believe temps were in the low 60's today!  Did a little yard pickup of limbs and pinecones, washed sheets and hung them out (still love the old fashion way of air dried sheets.  Still many more tiny limbs to clean up before grass weeds begin to grow.  I don't hire lawn people ~ since I live in the woods I figure why spend money to fertilize, seed and water the lawn so grass will grow which needs to be cut???  If my weeds grow green and need cutting I'll cut it.

Sadly Missing ATHA

All of my close hooking buddies are attending ATHA in Lancaster and I'm not there, sadly.  Since I was at Cape May in September and going to another camp in November there was no way I could afford to have someone care for Ben and me spend money on camps three months in a row.  Wish I had the financial resources to do that but don't.

Anyway, my gal pals are keeping me informed on what happens during the day and what they buy.  And Deb (my friend) who I will see in November has purchased some wool for me and a tee shirt!!!!!!!!!  She even commented when she sent these pictures, that she knew I'd kill her if she didn't pick up one for me too.  And she is right!  So my dear gurlfren picked up one for me and I'll get it early November and wear it with pride.

This is the front.

This is the back.

Here we go again with the photo thing.  Both of these pictures were straight up and perfect when I retrieved them from my photo file.  So now I have no way of correcting the positioning that I am aware of.  But, guess you can get the drift of what the shirt looks like.

Woolley Fox is selling these tee shirts and has a booth which also has Evelyn Lawrence showing the Magdalena rugs.  Man-O-man.... wish I'd seen Evelyn's rugs in person all at once.  I've seen them when on display at Cape May each time she accomplished one but to see them all together at one time must be mind boggling.

I'm envious of all who visited, participated in classes and enjoyed this wonderful event.  And, cannot wait to read every one's blog with pictures and stories.
