Have You Any Wool Pattern

Didn't get to pull any loops on the rug this morning until after lunch. First was 1 1/2 hours of grass cutting before the next monsoon starts this evening.  And then my second shower of the day.

The pattern is from the art work of Carol Endress and a design offered by Woolley Fox.  The pattern measures 23 x 31.

Not a good photo even tho it was with a flash.  I wanted to see if the green leaf color would work or if I should choose another color.

Then took a photo on the back deck with natural light hoping to get a better photo.  Nope, no better.

So I will continue to work on the inside background and finish the leg before working on the border and choosing leaf colors.

When asked what my thoughts were on the shape of the sheep, a couple of you commented it looked like a skein of yarn.  That made my day.  And, yes I understand a sheep tail is longer and fuller but decided to make the sheep appear more like that skein of yarn instead.

Have You Any Wool?

Yup, that's the name of the pattern I'm working on.  It is a pattern design by Carol Endress and offered by Woolley Fox except it isn't listed on the web site.  So if you are interested please contact Katie.

Those of you who said the sheep looked like a skein or ball of yarn were correct.  That is exactly what my vision was but wasn't sure I'd be able to pull it off.  The difficulty was the head and the rear due to shape.  But still glad it was good enough that some knew.

Since yesterday have decided on two possible background and border choices.  What makes the decision difficult is having a GREY sheep and BLACK face and legs.  So a light background would conflict with the light grey sheep.  A dark background would loose the legs of the sheep.

OH NO.... what's a hooker to do?  (a little humor here).

So looking thru my humongous stash of wool knew there WAS an answer.  Above is a teal plaid which just might work.  The light teal strip cut for the background would be nice and the darker section for border would work well with adding flowers of any color.

My other thought was a red background and using the black legs and face for the border and using the red for flowers.

So, stay tuned to find out what I decide.  BUT... as always do truly enjoy your input.

Labeling Rugs

My labels don't get printed out until I have a full page to print. One of the rugs was finished in 2015 but didn't want to waste a sheet of printable fabric with just one label.  Having printed the labels out figured it was time to start stitching them on my rugs.  

First one stitched was the Spring Challenge designed by sweet Kelley Belfast and hosted by the Out of Hand Rug Hookers group.  Since the deadline for this challenge is May 1st wanted to be certain all was accomplished.  The finished size of the rug measures 19" x 24".

For those wondering..... Most of the rug was hooked with #8.5 strips. But some narrow worms were used and for the proddy daffodils the size varied from #8 to #9.5.  Below is the label which shows the original design by sweet Kelley Belfast.  Thought the line drawing would be a nice documentation to have on the label attached.

Next to have a label was A Day in the Country, a design by Tonya Robey of Mad Hen.  It was a kit purchased a few years ago and finally hooked in November/December 2015.

The label attached has a copy of the sample rug Tonya hooked. Since I took liberties with a couple flowers thought it best to show the original hooked piece by Tonya on the back.

Next in line for a label was Flag Day Sheep.  Again I took liberties and changed it to look a little more like a design which Woolley Fox carries called Woolley Sheep.

It was only fitting that the label to the back be how the original Flag Day Sheep design looked like on the web site.

Another rug recently hooked and needing a label is Rainbow Cabin, a design by Carol Endress and offered by Woolley Fox.

This one still needs to be stitched but is just pinned in place.  The label shows a photo of the design hooked by Barb Carroll.  I've seen her hooked version in person and the photo retrieved from the web site is showing up far brighter than it really is.

For those working folk... TGIF... oh but I remember that well.  It is still rainy, dreary and after all this rain the grass will be be in dire need of cutting.  But meanwhile I'll keep on going on.

Just Three Weeks Away

......before Rugs by The Sea in Cape May, NJ and I don't know what I'm going to hook.  Not that I don't have plenty of patterns in my stash that I've purchased, but also some I designed.

If you were a reader last year then you know how stressed I was hooking my departed Shadow girl.  Not this year baby, this year will be less stress and more fun.  This is shadow hooked in #8 strips.

There's always my favorite antique adaptations but I'm quite comfortable hooking those home by myself.  Here are some of the patterns that I've purchased from Woolley Fox and I've been wanting to hook and it would be so easy just to take one or two of these and hook away to my heart's content. 

This is a design called "Have you Any Wool" a design of Carol Endress from Woolley Fox and love how my gal pal Deb hooked hers.

Hannah's Hen has been patiently sitting on the side lines waiting for loops too, also from WF. This one that Barb hooked has a wonderful background that looks old.

Oh, and I've also Barb's Ned, a couple other sheep patterns, I've Rainbow Cabin, and a cat design, but have forgotten the name.  I also have a delightful pattern by Lucille Festa called Moon over Vermont that is calling my name too.

In my stash also is Karen Kahle's Catnip pattern, but again that is something that I could do at home and even between patterns.

 I drew out a rug based on a cute doll I made called "What's Its Name" by Kindred Spirits, here is the doll.  Oops, I chopped off her hair.  I even have more of that yarn left to use in my rug when and if I ever hook it.

Another rug I designed is me and my two cousins.  We used to hang out together all summer long when we were kids.  This one I drew out about 9 years or so ago and stopped drawing because I got timid with the face and hands and decided I didn't want a realistic looking piece anyway ~ sorta more like what Deanne Fitzpatrick does with her people.  But I got cold feet, and gave up as I felt inadequate to hook it right.  Besides I'm not a fan of a narrow cut.

 

This is a close up of us three....Barbara, me, and Rachel.  The two girls are sisters and we still keep in touch, particularly me and Rachel.

The picture was taken in front of my grandfather's house, along his sidewalk.  The house behind us belonged to an elder woman who we, as silly kids, thought was a witch because she wore dark clothing all the time and we hardly ever saw her outside the house.  We would 'imagine' all kinds of evil and mysterious things were going on in the house and when we did hear or see the door open we would scramble.  Oh silly girls we were.  The house has been long gone as is now my grandfather's house.

I am quite sure that I will receive an e-mail from a friend (you know who you are Lynne), prodding me to finish drawing this rug and to hook it.

Anyway, in order to fully take advantage of Ali Strebel's art and creative mind I am also thinking of drawing out a 'paisley' design so that I might try something other than just plain hooking.  I know that my gal pal Deb will come out of her class with a most wonderful and colorful piece as she will use every technique known and demonstrated by Ali.  I've a wonderfully creative friend.
