STILL ON THE FRAME

Am still enjoying pulling loops on Magdalena's Animal Parade.   So no need for that plus one pattern yet.  I like everything so far but perhaps had a glitch which hasn't been worked out because of time restraints on wanting to post an update this evening.  It's the bird on the bottom left.
Here is a cropped image of the bird from the original rug.
Think the outline color I chose is too large and too red but hope to have that figured out before my next update.  I've taken a few liberties in my adaptation of this antique but that bold outline won't be one of them.

Wind gusts and low temperatures have been horrid last night and today.  I awoke with many limbs, some as large as my arm, broken over night.  The limbs behind the doors of my garage I removed but it was so cold and windy that I came back inside after that.

Thank goodness my trash and recycle had been picked up yesterday or the trash would have been blown over and everything strewn throughout the neighborhood.  Temps will be lower than normal again tonight and weatherman says with the wind the feel real will be in the low teens.  Hello winter!

Hope you are keeping warm and entertained inside, happy hooking or whatever else makes yours bells jingle.

CHANNELING MAGDALENA

As of this moment I'm still thinking of hooking Magdalena's Animal Parade rug.  The first picture is the original antique hooked by Magdalena.
Evelyn Lawrence was the first person to hook an adaptation of the design and she sent me this photo of it as soon as she finished hooking it in 2012.  Evelyn gave the 33 x 79 pattern line drawing to Barb Carroll.
Another adaptation of Magdalena's design was hooked by Cindy Jeffcoat.  Sure wish it was a full frontal photo but you can still see how well it was color planned and hooked to replicate the original.
And just recently Alice Fraizer finished hooking her version of the design and posted it on FB. I'll be looking forward to seeing what Alice will have on her hooking frame next.
No way I'll hook a rug 33 x 79 and even the Domestic Zoo pattern I hooked was huge for me at 22 x 66 (below).
I've enlarged the design and printed out a pattern line drawing measuring 19 x 48.  While that seems like a descent size for me (compared to 33 x 79) it will still be an issue tilting the frame and rotating the pattern.  Yet I've briefly considered enlarging it to 21 x 57.  BUT, since I'm still not done hooking Giant Flower have more time to decide which size to do oh, and the plus one ~ OR will the new Magdalena end up being the plus one which gets set aside while I work on a more comfortable size rug???.

Well kids, it's November and you know what holiday next month is... I can't say that word or Laure will call me out on it.  If you need or want to hook some small gifts for friends or family how about a 'mug rug'?  You could hook some small ones with dog bones or paw prints for the friends with pets; or small size rugs for children with dollhouses (or is that a thing from 'the olden days')?  Seems like Edyth O'Neill was also channeling Magdalena in this old blog post which you can check out HERE.

Honey's, I'm Home!

I arrived home Thursday around 5 p.m. and about 2 hours left to my drive home the car radio was interrupted with tornado and extreme thunder storm weather warnings moving all around me. My eyes kept a watchful eye in the rear view mirror and couldn't get home fast enough.  Since all ended well I guess it was a fitting big BANG to the class at Woolley Fox.

Did I have fun you ask?  Uh, yeah, and I always do.  My friend Evelyn wrote me asking if I was happy with the rug I hooked there.  Seems a silly question since Evelyn hooks at the camp so knows the answer herself.  My response to Evelyn was, "Yes, I like every rug that comes out of Barb's class".  Mine is no exception.

Here are some pictures of my pals rugs and the pictures were taken 2 1/2 days into the class.  This is a picture of my friend Mary with her rug and the picture is taken on the deck of the Guest House on the Woolley Fox premises.
This is my friend Shari who is working on Barb's pattern called Rags.  She is hooking the dog in the color of her dog.
My gal pal Deb is hooking Magdalena's Animal Parade which is a humongous rug measuring 33 x 79.  She is hooking it in #9 strips.  You should see that duck up close and personal....awesome.
And finally mine, which is Magdalena's Farm and measures 24 x 38.  All those markings on the rug translate to instructions from Barb.  She has a great teaching technique which makes it easy to remember.  Since these are small classes Barb brings each student to the planning area individually and concentrates on THAT rug only.  Once that student is ready for the next stage then Barb calls up the next student.
I love everything about my rug ~ everything!  What's funny is that I'd become accustomed to putting some sort of purple in the rug since my first class with Barb.  She had already color planned everything except the background and the corner swag.  I was beginning to wonder if this would be my first rug from a Barb class without purple....how could that be?  FINALLY, there was that bit of purple I'd come to expect and enjoy in a rug from Barb's class.

I'd intended to come home and finish up the Cat's Meow rug which is very close to being done.  But, I just wanted to continue the ambiance I'd enjoyed at Ligonier with Barb and my gal pals so have kept this on the frame.  Tonight I'll continue hooking on this rug and tomorrow think I'll finish up the Cat's Meow and be done with that one since it is so close to being done.

Gals, if you ever get the opportunity to take a class with Barb please treat yourself.  It is an experience watching Barb's brain work on the color planning process.  Sure wish the talent would rub off on me but no matter how many classes I've taken with her I still don't feel my magic happening with the color planning.

Have a great evening everyone.
