THE HUNT IS ON

Finding my next project is getting to a critical point now.  Not only could I have used it as a plus one during my frustration with the present rug but will need something to hook once the rug is finished.  I do have a line drawing for my Cape May camp project but want to save that one for September.  So once again I'm searching thru old photos of rugs.

Here's a geometric that could use up left over cut strips and would change the date to 1941, the year I was born.
The deer and pup rug was on my 'maybe' list at some point so will keep it in mind too.
The crosses with blotchy background would be great for another worm buster and believe friend Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) hooked it a while ago.  I have Polly's book with a pattern in it but would try and replicate the antique version with no perfectly squared corners.
Although I've said I don't like pink, I don't find this color below offensive and have previously considered hooking it.  Who knows what potential rug lurks in my mind.
The circa 1845 rug below has been on my radar before also.  Is that a vase with flowers coming out of it or  a flower in full bloom with buds?  Whatever it is it passes muster.
Another geometric I've considered in the past is the one below.  Thought it would be a good one to use up those selvage edges I've been collecting.
Am also interested in hooking either this Abe Lincoln antique or some rug with a log cabin.  I love log cabins.
Drawing up a pattern today is off the table as I'm not done with my hunt yet.  But wanted to get my blog post done so I can pull a few loops on Junk Yard Dog.  Sure hope a pattern floats my boat soon.

Mistake for me to say 'floats my boat', over Thursday night thru all day yesterday my area received 3.66" of rain.  Some areas in the county received more.  I don't see the lake but with more rain predicted it could happen.

LOOK'N for the NEXT ONE

As I'm getting closer to the finish line with 1911 Horse it's time for me to get serious look'n for the next one to put on my frame.  My heart always skips a beat when I see this oldie.  Have been pondering a name for it IF I choose to hook it.
Another being auditioned is this simple flower with scrolls too.
Sheesh, so far the ones which seem simple and interesting are florals.
Rooster, Berries and Hearts hooked in the 1800's piques my interest each time I see it.  But will it be 'the one'?
I've also loved the sweet hen and chicks.
Or I could finally start this geometric using up some of the selvage edges I've been saving.  That one could be put to the side to be worked on when getting bored with something else.
You know I'm getting desperate when I also think about this big snowflake-ish flower design.   It was said to be hooked 1900.
This one below is quite tidy and attractive.
This one is so-so. I stop to look at it closer each time scrolling thru the flash drive but doubt it will be 'the one' despite the great blue.
Antique star and diamond shaped border might be fun.  Or would all that background get boring?
The Shelbourne Flower basket is on the list but boy will it be a challenge to get a descent line drawing from it.  Could lose my patience before getting the lines drawn.
Appears someone is tackling the Shelbourne flower basket and think I found it on Pinterest.  Thought I'd show you a more eye appealing photo of that design.

So I'm looking for prospects today, but am wondering if my picks would be different in a day or two?  Must admit my immediate attractions are to the horse and deer rugs but am not even putting them in the line up since I'm working on one.

Oh my, what's a rug hooker to do when she's between a hook and a hard place?  Happy hooking.

HUNTING TIME

I'm still working on another flower but it is hunting time once again for the next rug for my frame.  The idea of hooking a block from Lucinda Ward's Reconciliation Quilt is still on the table but that won't occur until after the new year when Christmas has been put away and folks have time, right Lauren 😁.

And I did draw out a pattern today but it wasn't for me. 😞  Someone ordered Cottage and Apple Tree pattern and always try to get them in the mail asap.

The rug below was recently found and before I did the screenshot thought for sure I'd noted the date and dimensions.  Well, can't identify any scribbled notes so guess I forgot.  Eventually I'll see it on pinterest again and follow the trail to hopefully take notes and document.
This great rug was found today, a Horse named Mabel dated 1917.  It measures 41 x 45 and  sold for $9,400 Oct. 2000.  If I hadn't hooked one very similar this would definitely be on my frame right now.
Here is the rug hooked several years ago which is very similar to the one above.
The Folk art horse rug below has been posted on my blog before.  It measures 36.5 x 52 and sold for $1,690.  At one time I was interested in hooking it but that interested fizzled out before drawing it.  Will think about this as a choice again.
I've posted this star rug previously also and now that I'm looking this one seems interesting.  Don't let that pattern maker's name on the bottom of the picture confuse you; she doesn't have a copyright to this design as it is in public domain circa 1900.  She just imprinted her web site link at the bottom of the picture.
This beauty is also being auditioned for the role of my next rug and I've been interested in this design for a while.  Cogswell's 4-petal flower is hooked with cotton and wool on burlap.  The original measures 31 x 45 and said to be hooked between 1890-1925.  I have some ugly wool that would be perfect.  If you recall, I've posted before how ugly wool makes a great rug.
Finally found it....Abe Lincoln, his horse and cabin.  AL1809 represents the date he was born.  US 1861-1865 for is years in office.
The search for my next project will continue but it is getting late in the day and want to make a post so will sign off for now...TA TA.

HOMEWORK

In other words, I'm in search of 'the next one'.  As you know I've become unenamoured with my current projects.  So went perusing my favorite sites, my flash drives and also the Magdalena booklet to see what rugs I haven't hooked yet.  There are a couple Magdalena's I haven't yet hooked but passed them by this time.

This is just the auditioning of rugs because maybe tomorrow none of these will float my boat ~ that fickle factor ya know.

I've probably posted this Cottage with apple tree, birds, horse and chicken rug previously.  It  measures 30 x 42 but I wouldn't draw mine that big, said to be circa 1920.
Oh nice!!!!!!  Given the name Wyeth Rose by the auction house, makes  me wonder if one of the Wyeth artists owned it at one time.  The dimensions of the rug are 34.5 x 62.5 and hooked late 19th century.  It would be fun using my 'old patina' overdyed wool and color worms to work this one for sure.
Still stuck in my head from a previous post, is this rug hooked late 19th/early 20th century.  While the original antique measures 32 x 52.5 if I choose this one mine won't be drawn that big.
Oh, and this Deer hooked late 19th /early 20th century is still on that list too.
For some reason this geometric with horses also appeals to me.  Perhaps the colors?
Unfortunately I've not exhausted my vault of antique rugs so haven't made a decision.  Therefore will trudge along on pulling loops, sewing labels or whatever it takes to make this humdrum feeling pass.
