FIRST RUG SHOW on JULY 1st

Let me see what photos I have on my flash drive.  Actually this isn't a rug but would make a lovely one.  It is either a water color or bird art print.  Have no idea on age or who it could be attributed to.

An animal farm rug, from Bucks county, PA hooked 1900's with dimensions of 21 x 72.5.

Rabbits continue dancing.  Don't know the age of this one but it is a little different with trees added on each end.  The original antique was/is in public domain and I've really old dancing rabbit rugs to verify that.  This one looks in good shape so may have been a purchased pattern when Patsy Becker offered them.  Patsy was not, however, the original designer of the pattern.

Deer in landscape, no date but dimensions are 26.5 x 39.5.  Am thinking that is either a sunrise or sunsetting in the background.  Yet it seems to be setting between the mountains.  No limit to artistic creativity.

A horse with leaf border, sorry, no date on this one either.

Shirred floral dating between 1830-1840.  Notice how some flowers or leaves are made with hearts.  Wonder if it was a wedding rug.

Am not particularly fond of the colors, but the roosters were hooked in the 1900's and hails from Bucks County, PA.

I like a blotchy background but can't say I'm fond of this kind.  Can't really call it hit and miss I don't think.  A hound dog hooked around 1920. 

There it is folks, another rug show put to bed.  Still working on the border of my dog rug and still haven't decided on the final color of the background.  Hope to my s#!t together on that decision soon so I can move on with hooking in confidence.  Hope you're doing some happy hooking.

RUG SHOW TIME

Don't think many, if any, of the rugs posted here will float your boat but among the rugs recently found these were my pick among the lots.  First is a Shaker rug with horse dated 1840.  

A close up of the horse but still not a good picture.

A quite faded basket of flowers circa 1890 which measures 30 x 46.5.

And a view of the true colors on the back.

A more simple primitive design of the moon and stars dated 1920 with dimensions of 21.5 x 36.5.

This rug of bear cubs is kinda cute because they small baby cubs.  But they grow up to have humongous appetites.  I forget which auction site it was listed on but was only cost $295 including shipping.  But I doubt Cathy would be interested because of her encounters with the grown up species.

This geometric below reminds me of the dna structure chain.  Guess you'll never look at this design the same way again will you, lol.

An unusual coloration of a dog but another example of someone using what they had.  

An old rug with a child holding balloons said to be circa 1925.  

What I found somewhere soon after was this very interesting Charlie Brown applique piece.  I speculate it was an adaptation of the above hooked rug.

That's all folks.  Hope next time I go searching there will be more interesting rugs to show.  Or for sure before I need to draw another for me to hook.  Speaking of hooking ... guess I'd better get back to the Stag because I need something to bind while waiting to have my vehicle in the shop.  Just might need a new ignition.

RUGS WITH HEART

It's February first and Valentine's month.  Do you need or want a Valentine themed rug to display every February?  If so this post will have some antique rugs which may appeal to your heart. 

Here's a mix of hearts and primitive flowers.

Hearts and circles dated 1880-1900.

The date is already hooked into the mat below.

Floral with heart border, and a wonderful blotchy background.

Here's one you might like Sue, since it has tans and browns.

This next rug is one I hooked and is an antique adaptation.

Hand in Heart hooked 1920.

A nice geometric with hearts hooked between 1920-30.

Horses with 6 hearts late 19th century from Pennsylvania.

Antique Hearts hooked between 1880-1910.

Below is the adaptation I hooked.

This next one is an antique but I hooked the design and made it into a pillow.  

This rug below was in a previous blog post but deserves to be here too.

This rug was in the Country Living Book 'Seasons at Seven Gates'.

Black, gray and white horse and hearts.

Hearts and 8 point stars hooked 1911.

Or you could use hearts to make a geometric design of any size you like.

A home with hearts in corners said to be hooked between 1880-1890 found in Ephrata, PA.

Below is a pattern I drew for and hooked by Lisa.  I named it Hearty Heart.

March 6, 1931 must have been an important date to the hooker.

There are probably more heart hooked rugs among those which were salvaged by the computer tech.  But I didn't scroll thru those unnamed jumbled up photos.  Hope this post provided you with a little fiber for your heart health today.  Happy hooking.

THE RUG LOTTERY

After a long dry spell of finding rugs I hit the mother lode of antique rugs on an auction site today.  Most came from the same person's collection, and not all are being posted at this time.

The first one is a yarn sewn footstool cover, circa 1840 and measures 8.5 x 14.  Always enjoy seeing the thick ripple effect of the yarn sewn rugs.

A bird and berries rug hooked late 19th century.  Dimensions are 31 x 35.5.

Circles wool on burlap dated 1898 from Mildmay, Ontario.  Size is 26 x 36.5 and I wondered if those circles could be configured to be hearts?  Would mean enlarging the design and perhaps eliminating the date, but it's an idea that crossed my mind.

I thought this "spring chicken" rug was a hoot.  Auction house said it was circa 1910 but it sure is in very good shape for that date.  Measures 39.5 x 48.

There were several horse rugs in this mother lode but I'll give you a break and only show you one.  Horses & horseshoes with hit and miss background.  Circa 1900 size is 36 x 42.  I've sent this to Evelyn to inquire if she thinks it's a Magdalena.

Here's a photo of the back of the horse rug.

There was one rug which had a story and was a little sad.  This is a WWI memorial to a loved one designed and hooked by Mrs. Sinnot circa 1918.  The story goes that Mrs. Sinnot sold the rug for groceries in 1930.

This is the label stitched to the back, Milleville, New Brunswick.

Hooking is going quite slowly on my stag rug but plan to do a little hooking this evening, along with binding the sheep.  Have a great evening.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF FIBER

Starting with a blank flash drive and saving rugs as I see them.  This rooster below was a new listing but they provided no other information except the starting bid.  Perhaps if I'd inquired they would have given the info to me but I wasn't planning on buying.

A central horse which is hard to see, with diamond border hooked 1870's found in the New England area measures 40 x 75.

This hit and miss geometric is dated 1912 in the corner.  Dimensions are 44 x 55.

The Minute Man rug, circa 1900 is 20 x 34.5.

I love the winter scene below but have no information as to date or size.  Someone recently posted a photo of their progress hooking this design on FB and she is doing a fabulous job.

This stag rug was hooked in Waldoboro style but no other info.  

Only info gleaned about the winter cabin below is that it is from Quebec, Canada.

A woman baking bread in an outdoor oven, hooked in the 1900s measures 19.5 x 23.5.  

I became interested in learning about such a thing of the past and found this photo of a woman baking bread in Quebec.  Interesting the historical things I've learned thru rug hooking.

Snow is in my forecast, just another form of water.  Stay warm and happy hooking.
