Back to Ezras Farm

This is it, Ezra's Farm again.  Nothing new on the frame, and right now I'm content as I want this one finished before moving onto something else.  You may recall I drew and hooked a flag instead of the blocks.  Also drew stars instead of the circles next to the house.
When putting Ezra's Farm back on the frame the first place I looked for wool was in the appropriate color wool worm baggies.  I'd rather use up precut wool before cutting more.  So the complete house was hooked using wool from the brown  and white bags.  And the wool used at the very bottom was from the brown wool bag.  Not that you'd notice anything missing.

Now to the flower stem, it was also from the green wool worm bag, uh, and the white flower from the same white wool baggie.  The blue background, however, will be a combination of the piece you see placed to the left plus similar wool strips from the light blue wool worm bag.
Just hope I've enough to fill in that space.  And if not I'll just grab some worms and use those to fill in toward the bottom of the flower.  I'll worry about the other blocks when I get to them.

There has been rain every day since Monday and storm caused a 5 hour power outage last night.  Thunderstorm will come thru again this evening and rain predicted thru Saturday.  The only reason there isn't a lake out back is because it was so dry.  Seems it's either feast or famine.  My heart still aches for those families in Texas.

SATURDAY SUNFLOWER

Am getting bored with the sunflower and made some changes but more changes might be coming.  Decided to not put my initials in, won't hook the date, decided to not make it into a pillow and will probably make the lower larger leaf smaller too.
The petals in the flower have all been from the wool worms/noodles.  The stem and leaves started with leftovers but found they worked.  Looked around and found more of that ugly (but suitable) wool and cut additional for the leaves.  Here is that wool.  Ya just never know when the uglies will work.
As I was drafting this post a response came in from a reader to whom I'd asked a question.  But this post was on its way.

SO... my question to her was "what would you like for me to blog about".  Her answer was:  "what is the best tip I learned from a rug camp or teacher".  I do have a couple worth mentioning but would love it if some of you might send me an email and mention your best learned tips and I'll add them to my blog when that happens.

Happy hooking.

Great Granddaughter's Rug Update

Sure thought the crow would be finished in my afternoon hooking segment.  I'm sure Jo Leedy Ritter Wick would definitely have had this whole rug done by now.  I'm using worms from #8.5 at the largest and whatever colors and size from my baggies.

In my defense it does take time to rummage through the bags to find just the right color/value/size which fits.  Sometimes I think it would be faster to just cut more wool.  BUT don't want to make MORE wooley worms.
On another news front.....I read that the SHINGLES vaccine is more effective now since when mine was given in 2010.  Went to Walgreens today and learned the one I had 2010 was only 65% effective and the new vaccine (a two-shot vaccine) is 97% effective.  It requires a second shot within 6 months of the first and Medicare/drug insurance does pay for part.  OR, if you don't have Part D Medicare try GoodRX.com.

My sweet DIL recently had a very painful outbreak of shingles and have heard horrid stories from other friends and family about how painful Shingles outbreaks is.  So you may want to visit your family doctor or local pharmacist to find out which vaccine you had and if you are safe.

Prayers go out for the people hit by the recent tornadoes and flooding.

Wool, Background and Border

I'm getting closer to revealing the pattern on my frame ...but first let me show you what I'm using for the background wool.  Wish I had a little more of the windowpane wool but since there isn't enough to do the whole background with it will mix some of the other flat wool in the mix.  Actually think it will be okay because that brown line doesn't show up a lot when the loops are pulled.
Below are the wool textures I'm mixing and hooking the outside holding line and along the inside border.
I'm sure you are all scrunching up your nose with the vast difference in the wool but I like to mix it up and add a little spark here and there. Besides, don't think it looks all that outrageous when you see the mix in this photo.

EEK, not sure I like that brassy gold in the border.  Might need to find something else to go there.  After posting this previous eek comment I went back to look at the rug in person and it really doesn't show this brassy in person.  So maybe I'll keep it for a while then look at it more critically later.
So far the only wool I've cut is the background, the border holding lines and some for the horse since I use so much primitive black.  Am trying my darndest to use up wool worms.

Hope everyone has a great day and is warm.
