All Hooked ~ Now to Bind

Nope, not the flag.  I'm finished hooking Jewel Basket and going to start binding it very soon.  But not until I draw out the 'next thing' for my frame.  Here it is and am so happy I chose to buy the pattern and hook it a second time after learning a little about rug hooking.
This is how I hooked the same design in 2004.   If you look above you'll  notice some of the leaves were removed , flowers enlarged or moved them.  None of the blue trumpet flowers were hooked that way either.  Subtle changes but I'm much  happier with the new rendition than the old.
The old version looks too sterile with all the same wool for background color.  It's also too matchy matchy.  Maybe because I love antique rugs the imperfect and irregular hooking of the blotchy background is much more interesting and think the new one is warmer and more inviting.

Previously I showed the background wool used but for anyone just tuning in to my blog here they are again.
Blogger must be having inconsistent issues as it doesn't seem to be playing nice for either Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) or Cathy (Acorn Hollow).  But I didn't seem to have a problem posting pictures in the normal way.

However... Beginning July the 'Follow by Email' widget (feedburner) is going away.  Which means the posts won't automatically go to  you, instead you will need to find me.  That will affect all Blogger people so hope you family of bloggers will inform me if you find an alternative.

I have received spam ads from people offering the service at a cost but I'm not going to pay extra.  I figure if you (the readers) are interested in my blog and what I post, you (the readers) will take the time to look for me.  If I notice a drop in visits then my blog will go away as well.

Guess I'll mosey to my wool room and draw the new small design now since I need a break from the flag and something to generate a new enthusiasm.

Time for a Lookie Loo (updated info)

It's been a few days since I've seen an update on my PC monitor and decide what needs to be reverse hooked.  I took two photos with different settings.  If you tap on either they will enlarge but the first photo is the one with more pixels.
Sadly I've not yet started hooking the trainer since there is more border and background to make it to the halfway mark.  Would like to save fun for the other half of the rug so will wait.

Checking the progress now as I had a concern with a few border blocks ~  those would be the yellow at the top, orange and blue to the right side near bottom.  Yet, looking on the PC it doesn't bother me so will continue.  HA, have still been known to rip out wool at the last minute.
Plans are to have red at all four corners to sort of anchor the design.

Rose of Three Sheep Studio wondered what my background wool was. For those of you who missed my post about that you can read about it HERE and see the wool used for the holding lines of border.  But for a quick view here is the background wool.

We are just a couple days away from a brand new year.  My goal BEFORE 2017 is to have my last two rugs bound and label attached. You all know how binding is NOT my favorite task but want to start the new year with NO rugs left to bind.  Thankfully I've only two to do.

So you guys and gals out there.... how's about gathering your unbound rugs and start now.  You could watch the ball come down New Year's eve and bind your rugs.  Would love it if you'd send me your finished pieces and I'd be happy to post them on my blog.

Wool, Background and Border

I'm getting closer to revealing the pattern on my frame ...but first let me show you what I'm using for the background wool.  Wish I had a little more of the windowpane wool but since there isn't enough to do the whole background with it will mix some of the other flat wool in the mix.  Actually think it will be okay because that brown line doesn't show up a lot when the loops are pulled.
Below are the wool textures I'm mixing and hooking the outside holding line and along the inside border.
I'm sure you are all scrunching up your nose with the vast difference in the wool but I like to mix it up and add a little spark here and there. Besides, don't think it looks all that outrageous when you see the mix in this photo.

EEK, not sure I like that brassy gold in the border.  Might need to find something else to go there.  After posting this previous eek comment I went back to look at the rug in person and it really doesn't show this brassy in person.  So maybe I'll keep it for a while then look at it more critically later.
So far the only wool I've cut is the background, the border holding lines and some for the horse since I use so much primitive black.  Am trying my darndest to use up wool worms.

Hope everyone has a great day and is warm.

Background Wool for Santa and Deer

I was asked to post a picture of uncut wool which was used for the Santa and Deer and am happy to do so.
The majority of the background was hooked using the top two wools (pictured below).  I know the one on the right came from Betsy but not sure about the other one.  Occasionally I'd add strips from the bottom two wools; the wool on the bottom left is from a recycled skirt and the herringbone on the bottom right came from Betsy.
Hopefully I'll be ready to pull some loops on my projects starting on Tuesday as my goal is to ship the commission out on Tuesday since tomorrow is a holiday.  Since I'm not totally finished with the commission I won't be ready to hook on my projects tomorrow anyway.

Have a great evening.

P.S.  OMG, I went to Betsy's web site to copy her link and noticed she has a new shipment of wool.  I've got to place my order before my favorites are all sold.   AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   My name sake wool has been restocked!!!  I feel like a proud mama.  Thanks Betsy for naming it after my blog name.
