TEMPTATION

Crossed Flags has become boring and am fighting temptation to start Magdalena's Double Horses.  This is so close to being completely hooked that part of me wants to continue pulling loops on it until it is finished.  That other weakness part of me wants instant gratification, lol.

Obviously the positive of doing this type of hit and miss background is that you can use short pieces of wool, mix narrow cut with wide in neighboring rows and I've not had to cut one piece of wool for the background.  All have come from the wool worm baggies.  Seems it takes me longer to find the right piece of wool than it does to hook.  That's because I search for the right value and color to ensure it doesn't get hooked right beside the same shade or value of an adjoining row.

When this one is hooked and bound it will the the final section of the Triptych antique posted below.

Will try and hold out and not allow temptation to give me that immediate gratification.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.  Remember those words from a child's book The Little Engine That Could?   When my mother was battling cancer at the time (and won) I would repeat those words she knew so well from reading the book to me as a child, and me to my own son when he was little.  If you want to know more of the book's history, author, etc., you can read about it HERE.

CROSSED FLAGS UPDATE

Nothing says "I love America" more than two crossed flags in a heart.  

As the heart is completed I've chosen to do the hit and miss background since that is how the antique was hooked since it will be a companion piece to the others I've hooked.  

Am now finding myself in the same urgent search for the next project.  Yes, Witchy Woman is at my side but that is smaller than a chair pad size so won't take long.  📣 Now Hear This.... Maureen mentioned to me how Witchy Woman reminded her of the vintage Beistle cardboard cut outs she used on her windows.  So that is another search you can do for ideas.  Will mention this again when doing my next post and where I'll share Sheila Kennedy's Witch drawing, with her permission.

Some Eye Candy for Rug Hookers

This first pretty floral with a geometric border isn't really an antique since it was hooked around 1940.  But is vintage and worth seeing; measures 24 x 36.  Still has nice crisp colors..

The Deer rug below is from the June and Sandy Worrell estate and measures 22 x 56.

Below is a closer look of the left side and right side.

Have you ever noticed that old hooked rugs of animals always seemed to show them with their tongue sticking out?  Wonder why?  If they wanted to define the mouth they could have just used a very thin piece of fabric.  Yeah, I know....they used what they had 😉.

A Floral Fraktur from Pennsylvania dated 1851 and measuring 17 x 33.

Beavers doing what they do best, measures 27 x 42.

Crossed Flags with oak leaf border.  Measures 36 x 41.

Rug with a date February 1906.  I'm wondering if this was a wedding rug with the 'knot' or perhaps fish (Christian symbol) depicted center top and bottom.  Rug measures 23 x 51.

And then the rug I've recently fallen in love with.  Don't plan to hook it yet as my project for April rug camp has already been established.  And since my  mood swings from hot to cold so quickly who knows how long it will be before it is on my frame.

Order for Patterns and Computer

Oh my.... as if my situation wasn't bad enough learning how to use this new fan dangled Windows 10, I get a wonderful big order for some Polly Minick patterns and my Computer doesn't support my printer.  It is from my printer that I enlarge pattern designs and nothing happened this morning when trying. 

Finally I did some googling and learned all I needed to do was download a new driver from HP.  HUH?  ...that's all?  But do you know how long it took me to research and find this out and THEN learn how to do it?  Anyway, here's what's on the menu for drawing first, Lady Liberty and Sam patterns.

And the others are huge too: Mermaid, the pattern Crossed Flags which is in Polly's book Victory Girls, and Sand pails Gifts from the Sea.  That lady certainly does go in for big projects but guess that makes her happy and we ALL know we are happy when we're hooking.  Plus she is making me happy because I can make a few pennies to spend on more wool and help pay for rug camp.

Hope you have a good evening everyone.  I'm NOW finally going to sit beside my boy Ben and hook.  He feels like an abandoned dog and it breaks my heart to hear him cry when he wants me in the room with him.
