CAPE MAY CLASS RUG THROW DOWN

This first group of rugs are from Caroline Twigg's class (Eagles Nest Woolens).

Two Old Cats is being hooked by Deborah.
Here is the original antique of that rug.
The Comstock Bed Rug is Mary Lou's project and a photo of the original antique is below it.

Night & Day pattern is being hooked by Leslie.
I'm wondering if the rug below was the inspiration for Caroline's design of Night and Day.
Sally designed the piece below.  Hope she sends me a picture when it is finished.  Think it is sea related and those might be shells.  Not sure what those white strips are but looks like sand dollars at the bottom.
Meredith's project is the Two Sheep pattern offered by Star Rug Company.
Lollipop Flowers is what I named this antique adaptation I am working on.
And the original antique is shown here.
Below is Stella's rug and at least one of the cow's was kindly drawn for her by Deborah.
Shari chose to hook a black sheep, it is an adaptation offered by Eagles Nest Woolen.
The original antique reclining sheep rug is below.

The next rugs are from Lucille Festa's class (American Country Rugs) but don't know who was hooking which ones.

This first rug is an antique adaptation.
Below is the original antique rug.

I believe this antique is Lucille's version being hooked shown above.
Below is a photo of the back of Caroline talking to one of the members of the Howard Street Ramblers band setting up for their afternoon concert.

Well there ya have it, the fun of Cape May in a capsule, lol.  Thankfully the two-way ferry ride was without high sea incident.  I don't get sea sick, I was afraid of hurricane Lee cancelling the ferry and we got lucky.

Happy hooking.

DAY 10 OF HOLIDAY THEMED RUGS

Well Julia I managed to pull something else out of my hat.  Took one more stroll through my flash drive and found these that I overlooked.  Winter Buddies was purchased from W.Cushing and I loved every second hooking it.  I see black capped chickadees at my bird feeders (among other species) daily.  It has been a while since I've seen deer in my backyard but now that the next door neighbors with 3 constantly barking dogs have moved perhaps the deer will return.
This cute snowman with the tweed hat is a design by Maria Barton of Star Rug Company.
Tonight's dinner is going to be rotisserie chicken cooked in my old George Foreman rotisserie.  It makes the most delicious chicken and the whole house smell good.  Merry Christmas eve.

Happy Halloween

Don't have a lot of Halloween decorations out this year but will show you what is.  First is my favorite Halloween rug Nantucket Broom Ride designed by Lori Brechlin and sold by Spruce Ridge Studios.  It was fun to hook in Kris' class and I enjoy it each year.
I used to make dolls but stopped doing that about 10 years ago.  Here is a witch with a hooked face I made.  Also made the paper mache' pumpkin as well.  Prices too high for a vintage pumpkin so made my own.  I don't have wonderful vintage Steiff Cats like Robin (The Cranky Crow) but do have this fun thing I purchased from a JoAnne Fabrics years ago ~ think it was JoAnne.
A pattern by Lucille Festa named Hobo Joe.  It was meant to be a cut out door people pattern but I chose to make it into a mat.
A better view of Lucille's pattern is below.
Since I have your attention I may as well show you other Halloween themed rugs  and  other things I've hooked over the years.  My design is "mache' Jacks" and a better look at my pumpkin.
A design by Kelley Belfast I call A Little Birdie Told Me because her design looks like the bird is whispering into an ear.
Another Lori Brechlin Design named "Do Goode Be Nice" was hooked in another Kris Miller class and she also offers the pattern for sale.
A few years ago I was the lucky recipient of a kit giveaway by Maria Barton from her Star Rug Company's blog.
Below is a Barb Carroll Jack I hooked which was a free pattern insert in the 1997 Sept/Oct issue of Rug Hooking Magazine.
Many years ago I made this applique quilt piece which I've hung on my front door previously to celebrate Halloween.
HESTER is another free design by Lori Brechlin which was in Primitive Quilts and Projects.
I can't forget Jack's Crow which I hooked last year.  A design by Terri Leamer of Winter Cottage Studio.  Think I'd like to hook it again and in better colors.
Yet another Lori Brechlin pattern Merrie October hooked last year was quick and fun.
A Witch doll I used to make which sold well at shows.  I tried to make each one slightly different.
And another example.
From a Not Forgotten Farm pattern booklet I hooked the Wytch pulling a pumpkin.
Just found this picture of witches.
Last but not least....Kitty in Candy Corn was a small thing I made which sold well and even tho I could probably sell many this time of year am just not interested in even making easy things any longer.  Am over dollmaking (cat making).
Today I hauled 8 wheelbarrow loads of rocks and here is the sum of two days work of 16 loads.  And there is a lot more for me to haul.  Me thinks these rocks are reproducing faster than my wool worms.  Calling my work outside done for today and will find pleasure hooking.

Room With A View

Actually all rooms face the ocean and this is what my view looked like at 5:55 a.m. Monday morning.
And again at 6:30, time for a shower then first day of camp.
After the April and September camps were cancelled and just two days before Ocean City camp, it became a reality that this one was really going to happen.   I was cautiously apprehensive but decided to go anyway, I needed to get back to living.

As soon as I arrived to my room and before unpacking anything I wiped down all surfaces with antibacterial wipes, sprayed the air with an antibacterial spray, pulled down the covers and sprayed the sheets and pillows.  Plus I took two of my own pillow cases to place over top of the two pillows I would sleep with.

At camp I wore my mask and or face shield all the time.  Well, except at meal time.  Even then, when not eating but waiting for the main meal after soup or salad service I'd mask up again; some didn't.

There were 8 students in one class and 7 in the other and all held in the same room.  The weather was nice so we opened one door to the outside which brought in fresh air and it flowed out thru the doors open on the opposite side so air flow was good and the breeze could be felt.
In the photo above, to the left is Jeanne Benjamin, behind her is the door to the outside which is open.  Not sure where all the other students are but perhaps I was taking photos just after lunch when the room was less full.

Below is a Sharon Smith pattern being hooked named Carrot Cake.

Here's a review of what some of the students were working on.  It was easier/better for me to take photos when people were out of the room so as to keep distance.

Hard to recall who was sitting where on the other side of the room but think this one was being hooked by Martha, who obviously started it before camp.
Cant remember who is working on this truck and you can see she is trying Bev Conway's message technique which will not be seen from the front ~ believe it or not.  I tried that at Cape May once and it does work.  If you would like to see the post I wrote about my experience click HERE.
The geometric below is being hooked by Phyllis Sheetz.
Pam Johnson hooking this rug and I love the coneflower colors.
Love the colors in the flamingo, and each time I see a pink flamingo I'm reminded of my dear departed mother who used to have the plastic things in her yard.
Renia is continuing on the lion rug she started with Jeanne in a previous class.
Heather is hooking a Star Rug Compa
ny design and changed the dog into a cat.
Someone is working on a small version of an antique geometric.
Below in the forefront is Heather, one of my table mates, close and on the left in the grey and black top is a portion of Bev's head as she is doing something with Stella's design.
Another table mate is Loris who is returning to her spot and working on the floral pattern purchased from Bev.
Below is a view of the rug by Bev.  The rug is folded to show the front and the back.  The secret message can be hooked not be seen from the front but perfectly legible from the back.
An Owl in flight was awesome and had to take a photo of it even tho it won't be something I'll hook ~ too much detail for this primitive wide cut hooker.
My rug isn't posted today and plan to save it for a separate post.  There's a couple things I wanted to point out so you'll have to wait.  😉

Happy Friday 13th and happy hooking.
