DAY 10 OF HOLIDAY THEMED RUGS

Well Julia I managed to pull something else out of my hat.  Took one more stroll through my flash drive and found these that I overlooked.  Winter Buddies was purchased from W.Cushing and I loved every second hooking it.  I see black capped chickadees at my bird feeders (among other species) daily.  It has been a while since I've seen deer in my backyard but now that the next door neighbors with 3 constantly barking dogs have moved perhaps the deer will return.
This cute snowman with the tweed hat is a design by Maria Barton of Star Rug Company.
Tonight's dinner is going to be rotisserie chicken cooked in my old George Foreman rotisserie.  It makes the most delicious chicken and the whole house smell good.  Merry Christmas eve.

Misc. Chit Chat

Good grief!  July 1st today and halfway through the year.  It will be Independence Day on Monday ~ hard to believe this year has gone by so fast.  I keep a list by year on what rugs are hooked and the first one finished in 2022 was Winter Buddies designed by Cindy Lindgren and sold by W.Cushing.
So far this year I've completed 4 rugs/mats and presently working on 2 alternately.  Am always thinking ahead on what will be my next project but am not panicked yet since I've two in progress.

Have received the new ATHA magazine and it is full of great rug photos ~ patriotic rugs and designs by ATHA's advertisers hooked by others.
A true confession...I no longer get my roots dyed.  Decided I've earned the right to my grey hair and letting it grow out.  Well, partly that but also with stock market volatility, food costs and gas prices figured it was a waste of money which could be better used for necessities and not frivolous vanity.  Also don't drive to the store to pick up just one item I want now, instead wait until there is a descent list of needful things.

A neighbor dropped by the other day around noon and when she came in the house she said..."don't you believe in lights?"  Because I didn't have a light on in the two rooms she could see (living room and kitchen).  I could see just fine and when I hook there is an OTT light overhead, which was turned off.  It wasn't as if it was midnight and needed lights to navigate in the room.  I told her it wasn't necessary and it was to keep my electric bill down.  Must admit even before this inflation situation I would shut off the lights when walking out of a room.  Out of curiosity have you made any changes to your lifestyle?

Am still happily hooking on Cottage and Apple Tree and reluctantly working of Mary Comstock.  Happy hooking, stitching, or knitting to others out there keeping their sense of calm with their hobbies.

MISC. CHIT CHAT

And it is related to rug hooking.  Was disappointed my ATHA magazine hasn't arrived yet because a friend told me a couple of my rugs are in the latest issue.   Thankfully Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) sent me a couple photos as she has received her magazine.

Oh Glorious Day was hooked in a class with Kris Miller of Spruce Ridge Studios.  To say it was a fun class is an understatement.  But then all of her classes are fun and I always come away with a rug with great memories and color planning.
Last March was so windy I needed to purchase W.Cushings Windy Day pattern to display each March and it is on my sofa table now.  As deer roam the woods around my house who wouldn't love to hook Winter Buddies, another pattern offered by Cushing.   Both of those were hooked at home without a teacher.
Finally after too many months of Covid lockdowns, masking, etc.  In
a November 2020 class under the guidance of Bev Conway I hooked New Year's Eve, a pattern offered by The Wool Farm.  I needed to welcome in a new year 2021.  Well we know how that year went too don't we.
Nine more days and a wake up before I leave for rug camp in Ocean City, MD.  This year I'm staying at the Dunes Suites next door instead of the hotel.  And guess this will be the only camp I attend this year as I'm not going to Cape May this September after attending every year since 2003.

Happy hooking.

What's Cooking in Rug Hooking

First of all, March winds have been very high, and when parking beside another car one must hold the door to ensure it doesn't hit and dent the next car.  Just hope others are as thoughtful when they park beside me.  So decided it was time to bring out the rug Windy Day, a pattern found on W.Cushing.
A Dancing Rabbit finish I've been waiting for is from Kitty with the polka dot rabbits.
More new wabbit wugs have come in and here is one hooked by Beth.  Actually she has a hooked version, which she says will go on top of an old picnic basket ...
..and a needle punch version; you've been busy gal.
Naomi is hooking a whole family of rabbits.  Had to laugh at a comment she made when saying her brain goes right to the Grateful Dead dancing bears and this is her adaptation.   But despite that I think it would make
an adorable rug for a child's room.
Nancy has been working on her background and creative border so it won't be long before she's completely done.
Laurel finished hooking her rabbits and says she's thinking of doing a mix of colors for the background.  Can't wait to see what she does.
What great imaginations you rug hookers have.  Amazing to see how ordinary rabbits can take on a personality all their own.  Happy Hooking.

RUGS HOOKED DURING 2020

There were 15 rugs and mats finished during 2020.  First one was a Cushing pattern of a Winter Sled.  Cathy of Acorn Hollow hooked one and posted it on her blog and loved it.  As luck would have it she was given another in a swap and I was fortunate to receive it in a giveaway ~ thanks Cathy.
Since Valentines Day would be the next holiday decided to purchase and Hook Heart Butter Mold pdf pattern from Primitive Heartstrings

Always too many rugs on my to do list and finally drew out the Lancaster Barnyard pdf by Lori Brechlin.
The next pattern I drew was Posies and Stars antique adaptation and this still makes my heart skip a beat.  Must be that border which does it and will take this one for the rug show.
Like many of you I receive daily updates from Lisanne of W. Cushing and as soon as my eyes feasted on Windy Day immediately placed an order for it.  After all I'd just gone thru the March winds and figured this would be a great table piece each windy season.
On my blog I invited readers to join me with a Cat's Paw playtime and had two people join me (Lauren and Elaine).  This is my mat.
Early Bird, a Lori Brechlin design by Spruce Ridge Studios was the next pattern on my frame.  Often I will tweak a design to make it more 'me' so this one has a border all the way around, not just on the top and bottom.  I know the worms were a border of sorts but wanted it to look framed.
Yup, another antique adaptation, I named it Bespectacled Lion because the lion appeared to be wearing glasses.
And.....another antique which I named Pride, Honor, Freedom.  The first block of the triptych design represents Pride in the US, the middle reminded me of fireworks honoring our military and celebrating patriotic holidays.  The third block with the Eagle and Shield represents Freedom.

The Charters of Freedom are group of three documents which protects our freedom:  The Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.  The framers of our Country were ever thoughtful of citizens at the time.  Tho they did their best to protect us from tyranny little did they know what has transpired since.
Knew Jack's Crow was a no-brainer to hook when I saw it as it is a cutie.  It was purchased  from Terri Lemer of Winter Cottage Studios, you can get yours HERE.  I purchased the pdf and just might hook another later.
Another pattern designed by Lori Brechlin and sold by Spruce Ridge Studios was Old Tom.  Guess you might say I hooked it twice because after hooking it didn't like the too bright colored wool I chose for Tom.  This is what it looked like after reverse hooking and hooking again.
Yet another Lori and Kris offering I chose to hook Merrie October 31st.
The Woolly Santa pattern by Karen Kahle had been in my stash for several years and finally decided to hook it.   Again using my tweaking powers 😏 made my Santa without a sack in front.  Instead he was holding the smaller lamb in his arms instead of it appearing as tho it was popping out of the sack.
Another pattern once seen just had to be mine was New Year's Eve.  It's from the artwork of Lindsay Bowles and pattern by The Wool Farm.  Frankly I'm considering removing the button clock and pulling wool from that area so I can hook the actual clock which was intended to be hooked.
Blogger friend Cathy of Acorn Hollow also hooked it and she did hook the clock.  This is a photo before she was finished and it has so many things that I like more than mine...oh well.  Good job Cathy!!!!!!
The final rug finished in 2020 was Over the Moon, from the artwork of PJ Rankin and pattern by Spruce Ridge Studio.
So there you have the 15 patterns I hooked during the pandemic lockdown.  I  mean,  there was nothing else to do but hook and eat 😁.  Well guess I could have cleaned my house but who would want to do that when they can play with wool?

Today's chore is cutting grass and it just might be the last time it will need cutting this year...if I'm lucky.  The weather is changing and so is the growing cycle.

CAT'S PAW

The last loop was pulled on Cat's Paw and now needs binding...
~ right after I finish tacking down the binding on Windy Day.
In case you're wondering, the dimensions of Cat''s Paw is 15.5 x 24 and drew it myself.  A lot of worms were used in #8 and #8.5.  I invited people to join me and it is never too late.  Here was that POST.

Windy Day was purchased from W.Cushing and the size I ordered was 12 x 22.  Lisanne does offer a larger size if you so desire.

I've pulled wool for my next project but the old mess needs to be tidied up as I seem to make a rat's nest when I hook.

CAT'S PAW UPDATE

This is an updated photo of my Cat's Paw mat which measures 15 x 23 1/2.  Not sure what will be on my frame next but better decide soon since I'm slightly more than half done with this.
Here is my initial sketch for the pattern but used up the length of my linen so drew some extra circles to fill it in.  Feel free to enlarge or use this for yourself if you wish.
Would love for you to share your photos with me.

On another note, I receive W.Cushings flyer via email as many of you do.  Lisanne had asked me to send her a picture of the Windy Day when I was finished but was still surprised to see it at the top of her flyer this morning.  Surprised but very honored...thank you Lisanne, it was fun to hook.

Happy Hooking everyone and try to stay well.

WINDY DAYS.....

....are continuing into April.  I always thought it was "March winds" and "April Showers".  But appears to be "March and April Winds plus Showers".  Some folks have even seen April snows; it has been cold here but thankfully no snow.

Windy Day, a design by W. Cushing, is finally hooked but not yet steamed and bound.  Will look at it a day or two to see if there are any strips I'd like to replace before steaming.
For those of you wondering what my background wool is, this is it  but can't remember the name of the wool nor where it was purchased.
Now is a huge clean-up from my mess and transition back to the Cat's Paw project.  However ~~~ I've already got a plan for designing my next rug.  Loving how it is planned in my head but nothing is on paper yet.  But being a fickle hooker who knows just what will be my next project.

Happy hooking, stay well, and keep yourself entertained.  Thank goodness for rug hooking.
