WHERE DID MY DAY GO?

What a timely and perfect title to my blog.  And thanks to friend blogger Cathy of Acorn Hollow for providing the idea for my post since that was the title of her last post.  

This morning after breakfast I started drawing patterns.  Most were Dancing Rabbits patterns but there were three other designs ordered too.  Since I'm a one woman operation it's me cutting and serging the linen and drawing so only accomplished one pattern before lunch.  Then went back to draw more but quit just before 5 p.m. to watch The Five.  Then another order for rabbits came in so will finish drawing and ship the patterns tomorrow.

Here's what has been ordered.  What took most of my morning was drawing the Cottage and Apple Tree.  I had to really concentrate on the tree limbs and apple's as it is easy to get confused as to where the limb and the background were because of the location of the apples.

Five Dancing Rabbits patterns, some with border some without. 

One Ali Katz small (without the zig zag border ends).

And one Mache' Jacks.

Or at least that's all on the schedule so far.  In queue tomorrow will be to finish Ali Katz and draw the last order for Dancing Rabbits with border.  Wish I could be more creative in my blog post this evening but I feel brain dead and tired.  BUT!  Not too tired to pull some loops.

LOOKING BACK

Decided to take a stroll back in time and show you what I hooked in 2022.  The first piece finished that year was the delightful pattern Winter Buddies designed by Cindy Lundgren and sold by Cushing.

Was getting antsy for another challenge/hook-along so a few of us hooked our favorite Granny Donaldson cow blanket designs and this is the one I chose (18.5 x 22).

After admiring an antique rug for many months it had to go on my frame and make it mine.  I named it Blue Bowl of Flowers and drew it 30 x 41.  During the hooking process I considered extending the flower stems.  But this is how the antique rug was so that is the way I hooked it.

Then there was that Dancing Rabbit hook-along.  Perhaps one day I'll hook the really old version in my files and enjoy it more.

In a class with Cindy Irwin at Ocean City, MD I was finally able to hook Mother and Fishbowl.  Because of Covid one year the class was cancelled and I just held out hope she'd get hooked.  I'm still not happy with mother's eye, her ski nose or lips ~ that was not the fault of Cindy, it is my loops.  Perhaps one day I'll work on it again before a next camp.

Cottage and Apple Tree is also an antique Adaptation drawn 22 x 30.  And it made for a great blog post on using UGLY WOOL.                      

Just like Blue Bowl of Flowers some antique rugs just haunt me until I hook them.  That was the case with Deer and Blue House, another antique adaptation which I drew measuring 21 x 30.

And who could forget what I personally refer to as the bastardized drawing of an otherwise wonderful antique Mary Comstock bed rug.  While I had to redraw many of the elements was not ready to toss in the towel.  It finally did get hooked and bound.  I should  have drawn it myself.

Then yet another challenge piece with Li'l Lamb chair pad, an antique adaptation using various textiles.  This time I didn't use woven cotton and it was much more fun.  I used nylon hose, tea stained cheese cloth, cotton knit, seam binding and wool.

And the last loops pulled on a rug last year was Double Eagles, another antique adaptation I drew.

Finally Finished!!

No sillies, not the Mary Comstock rug nor the Deer and and Blue House.  We (I) have a tendency to forget just how long a rug is in limbo and not considered finished until it is bound.  For me, the final finish is binding of Cottage and Apple Tree, an antique adaptation.  

Okay, okay, some say it isn't quite finished until the final steaming.  That hasn't been done yet but will be tomorrow.  Yet I wanted to show you the rug so am calling it finished.  This was a fun rug, was hooked with #8 in the cottage, #8.5 in many places and more narrow strips where needed for apples, outlines, etc.  It is drawn 22 x 30 but would draw whatever size someone wants.

Not sure if you've followed along on this rug journey, but am just again perusing and admiring my rug and still amazed at how the 'ugly wool' made that tree to the left so delightful and similar to the antique.  If you'd like to revisit that journey check it HERE.

Whew, so no rugs in the 'to bind' pile.  That's the pile I hate to increase.  However,  there's still the you know....the pile with the fun rug and the not so fun rug to hook.

GUESS I'VE GOTTA DO IT.....

Can't in good conscience delay showing you the update on Cottage and Apple Tree any longer.  I've often said hooking an antique adaptation is like putting together a puzzle.  Some of those puzzle pieces would be hiding in your noodle/worm bags.  That is just one unspoken secret which helps make a rug look old.   

Antique rugs never had a yard of the same wool to hook a background, unless it was a tattered blue or grey military uniform.   Plus back in the day rugs were made with 'rags' of homespun cottons, cotton stockings, long johns or whatever textile was available.

Didn't get many loops pulled yesterday as I needed a shearing and afterward had my annual eye appointment.  HATE having my eyes dilated because after 5 hours later there was still the peripheral glare in my vision.   Normally I have a rug to bind while sitting in the waiting room but good or bad am all caught up on binding.  

Am hoping the gals who purchased this pattern are having as much fun as I am.  I'd love to see a photo of yours eventually and if you have a question about what I'm doing or want me to take a close up photo of something, please feel free to email me.  

EEK, soon I'll have to decide what my next one will be ....but at least there's the Comstock rug sitting on the sidelines.
