Sewing Labels On

I'll give you folks a break from rugs I've hooked and present two rug labels just sewn on.  In previous posts have shown you how I do printed fabric labels with more than one label per sheet.  Tap that highlighted link above to see the info.

But NOW...... instead of stitching on a thin cotton label onto the back of the rug I'm doing something different.  Why didn't I think of this before?

I have machine stitched the cotton label onto a piece of felt and hand sewed the felt to the back of the rug.  You can see this rug was bound using the wool whipped edge and the wool came from Ali Strebel.  It is a nicely dyed wool complimenting the Magdalena Goat rug.

Yeah, the rug is a little wonky even after steaming, pulling and stretching.  It is what happens when there are curves, circles in curves and just the dynamics of the hooking process which makes the rug go wonky at the sides.  But hey, isn't this which makes us love the antique rugs, right?

Another label sewed on today was for Olde Hearts. The photo of a rug on the label was one replicated of the original antique.  Sadly my printer ink levels were low so the labels were not clear.

However, I like this new method of sewing the cotton printed label onto the felt first.

Now back to working on the bottom of the Gossip rug.  Must admit that I'll be happy when this BIG MOMMA is done so that I can move on.

Plans Change

The best laid plans of mice and men...as the saying goes.   There were big plans for me this weekend and next week.  Today I was to travel to my friend Deb's house, spend the night then we were to head toward Ligonier, PA tomorrow morning.  

The person who tends Ben when I go to camps (my ex) is very sick and didn't know until maybe two weeks ago he couldn't do it.  At first I decided to leave Ben at a kennel but had complications there.  And frankly, it was just too stressful for me so dropped out of class.  This was a huge soul searching decision as I'm sure all of you know since I enjoy her camps and respect the knowledge Barb Carroll shares with her students.

My plans included binding the Magdalena Goat rug on the car ride to Ligonier.  It won't happen in the car so have decided to start it now.   

Oops, I see that the photo was cropped too closely on the right side but only just around the corner was whipped.  So you can see there is more left to whip on the rug ~ sure hope my math was right and there is enough yarn to finish.

The other plan was to hook the pattern Gossip in Barb's class.  While I'll miss my gal pals and Barb's expertise am still planning to hook Gossip.   Even tho we will be states apart from one another will start hooking the rug on Monday along with everyone else.

The gals have promised to keep me informed of happenings at camp, and I'll show you my progress on Gossip as well as things they share with me about camp.

Oh, on a side note, my boy Ben sniffed out this turtle which was on the side of my driveway getting ready to cross.  By the time we got back from a quick walk it was already well hidden in the periwinkle.  I understand turtles always return to the same property to lay their eggs each year.

Visions of a rug design called Turtle Crossing is running thru my head, lol.

This and That

Did a variety of things today and was busy.  First and foremost was taming the rat's nest of tangled wool worms and putting them back in containers.  Even tho I use a lot of old worms seems I replaced them with other wool strips as the bulk hasn't seemed to dwindle much.

Steamed the Goat rug and it is resting for now.  Eventually and slowly will do the pre-wool whipped roll forward but will save the actual whipping for the ride to Barb Carroll's in May.  That will give me something to do while my partner drives and make the mountain ride less stressful for me.

Had an order for Magdalena's Goat so started drawing that but still have more to go as I had an exhisting pattern order for someone which needed to be drawn and shipped.

There is a new project in line to hook but don't have the wool cut for that so pulled out my grandson's rug to work on until then.  You can see my boy Ben guarding the front of the house and his mum.

Back to the Goat pattern..... I hooked the original size of Magdalena's rug which was 29 x 35 and drawn on linen that size would be $75 plus shipping.  

Then thought some may prefer to hook a smaller size like 22 x 27.   For those of you who are interested in buying this pattern let me know if you would prefer smaller or original size.
