I HATE Binding Rugs BUT.....

...I would rather bind rugs for 6 plus hours straight than go thru the drinking, cramping, pooping of the pre-colonoscopy prep that is my fate for today.

Here is the Mary Comstock binding in process.  Not sure how much more will be accomplished today as I suspect a lot of time will be spent on the toilet.
Yesterday I made some Jell-O, plain of course, and here is the rest of the menu for today.
My doctor prescribes Miralax but understand some gastroenterologists prescribe a pill, which I think would be more humane, lol.

Hope your day will be somewhat more fun than mine will be.   Happy hooking or happy anything.

THE DEVIL I KNOW....

...vs. the devil I don't know; that's what I'm working on.  You guessed it, instead of drawing out yet another pattern which may or may not make the grade, I've decided to work on the Mary Comstock rug.  All the wool is gathered, most of the irritating hurdles (re-drawing motifs) have been hooked and the rug is near completion.
My intention was to do a post yesterday on the first of October but wanted to complete that right side of the rug first.  Still I want to welcome in Merrie October.  Dang, wish I'd not hooked the 31st and just let it say Merrie October.  Think I've more of that background color so maybe I'll reverse hook those loops ....and then maybe not ðŸ˜Š.  Design by Lori Brechlin and pattern offered by Spruce Ridge Studios.
We did need rain here, it has been raining since Friday and will continue to rain through Wednesday ~ that will have been 6 straight days of rain.  Thankfully it is on and off rain so no flooding.  Just hope it stays on and off and not constant torrential downpours.   My heart goes out to everyone in Florida who has suffered from Ian.  For those of you who may have wondered, Polly Minick is fine, her house is okay and she went to stay with her family.

WHOLE NEW ATTITUDE

My new attitude toward this unsavory project will be one of Devil may care.  The last few times I've put it back on the frame I haven't cared one iota what shape or size the wool strip is as long as it is the right color.  I just want the dang thing done by the end of the year.  Sometimes I think I'd rather be binding a rug instead of hooking this.  Now you know that's say'n something.  For you newbie followers if you don't know what I'm referring to you can check out this older blog post HERE.

This is the Comstock rug before it is put back in the bag and imprisonment again.  Don't know how long she will be there.
Getting ready for a more fun-filled afternoon working on the Deer rug again.   That date is waiting for me so I gotta go....tata.  Happy Hooking.

MOVE'N ON

The Mary Comstock rug is back on the frame for a short period of time as that's about all my patience will be able to take.  You see in order to make it look more similar to the antique I'm re-drawing some many of the elements and it gets frustrating navigating the various lines even having used different colored Sharpies.

Never will I ever buy an antique adaptation from someone else again even if it is on sale.  I personally like the antique adaptation to look exactly like the original antique.  Whereas some people might like to make it their version.  So for that reason I'll draw my own.
Cottage and Apple Tree is all hooked and will show you photos later but want to use some walnut solution to tone down and dirty up some areas on it first.  I'll show you a before and after staining.

My new pattern (antique adaptation) has been drawn but still need to do the pre-binding stitching around the perimeter while there are no loops pulled.  Much easier to navigate around a sewing machine before than after it is hooked.

It poured rain early this morning, the water soaked up like the ground was a sponge, that's how dry it was.  Pleasant Wednesday to you and happy hooking.

I Can't Get No Satisfaction

Remember that song by Mick Jagger?  Well I can't get no satisfaction with either of my on-going rug projects.  Thought I'd temporarily put Mary Comstock away and pull out Mother with Fishbowl.  But after looking and thinking about that idea decided to roll it up and put it back in the bag.

Hooking on Comstock has been  s  l  o  w  going with numerous pausing between loops because there's no passion on it either.  Don't think I've felt like this for any rug other than the hit and miss geometric and likewise the wool yarn Strawberry Patch rugs.  Eventually they were finished but put away for years at a time.

This is what Mary Comstock looks like now, and the wool at the top shows up more red and mild than in person.
What to do when you're not having fun?  Since there are two rugs already available there's no way I want to think about drawing out something else.  SO, perhaps my time would be better spent sewing labels on several of my last hooked rugs and finish binding the Monochromatic Floral.

Today's temperature on my outside thermostat reached 99*F so guess it is officially summer and tomorrow is halfway into the year beginning June 1st.  Sheesh but time does go by fast.  The humidity was high so only worked outside for a little in the morning and was inside by just after 11 a.m.

Enjoy your garden's rewards and will be envious of all those sweet red ripe tomatoes.  I used to grow them when living in different areas and the soil was better.

Happy hooking and hope I find mine again soon.

LOOKING for the NEXT ONE

I spend a lot of time looking for antique rugs then again looking for something for me to hook between rug projects.  I'm on the search again and one is from my stash so wouldn't have to draw anything as it is ready to go ~ that would be the Mary Comstock rug.  The pattern I have is smaller measuring 20 x 26 so it would be an easy quick hook, me thinks.
The recently posted Deer interests me and you know how I love blotchy backgrounds and despite my hooking numerous deer over the years will always love hooking deer and horse rugs.
Also this Stag and Doe antique rug is teasing me.  Love that little bit of color in the house and flower.
While perusing etsy for rug patterns I fell in love with Sheep's Cabin, a design by Terri Leamer of Winter Cottage Studio.  So those are in my vision of what to hook next.
OH, plus I've a log cabin design floating around my cranium which hasn't been put to paper yet.  However, I'm not ready to draw anything yet since I've two rugs to finish.

On other news... today (Sunday) I went outside and saw this beautiful  turtle and wondered if it was a male looking for a mate or a female wanting to find a spot to lay her eggs.
I've read turtles return to their original location every year.  Am happy some have survived to make it this size and return each year; I look for them.  While the turtle may not have been happy with me, I gently turned it over to find out its gender ~ it had a concave bottom which meant it was a male.  A few hours later I went to the back yard again he was close to the area where I found him.  So perhaps he has a date with a female and more turtles will return.
Okay, enough of the sex life of turtles.  I went outside to move some logs this morning about 10 a.m.   Here is a picture of my first trip to the back woods.
My second trip.
By that time I was getting shaky and figured it must be close to lunch time so came into the house.  After water and rest had lunch and went back outside to make two more trips.  That's when I saw Mr. Turtle again in a slightly different spot and figured he had an eye out for a local gal.

There's still more logs to move and tomorrow is supposed to be thunderstorms.  But at least I got those few loads back in the area where the water normally builds up.

Where is my TREE MAN?????  Whenever they get here I'll have the remaining logs ~ which are bigger and heavier removed by them.

Happy hooking.

Now What?

I've recently finished the sweet design Windy Day and almost finished hooking the Cat's Paw I drew.  It's getting almost to panic time as I don't know what to hook next.  There are several already drawn patterns in my stash, some PDF patterns I could draw out myself and a couple designs in the making but nothing definitive.  Will show you a few of those patterns.

It would be much easier to hook pattern already here ~ One is Early Bird, designed by Lori Brechlin and purchased from Spruce Ridge Studios
Also have a small version of Mary Comstock's Bed Rug,  a pattern on linen by Frontier Homestead.
Two others which would be easy choices are Lori Brechlin's Wool Witch PDF.
Or When Pigs Fly, also in PDF format.  Hmm, maybe this one would be more fun in the fall.
Then a design in progress which was started about two weeks ago and I'm frozen in time....the pieces of paper drawings are still laying on top of my table.  I've temporarily lost interest in that although I was totally focused for a while.  Using a phrase from Lauren "I've the attention span of a gnat".

There are also 15 other already drawn patterns in my stash to choose from which won't require drawing out.  I've grass to cut but before that I've limbs and pine cones to pick up after the recent horrid wind.  That will give me time to ponder what will go on my frame when the Cat's Paw is done.

Happy sunny Saturday to you and hoping everyone is well and stays safe.
