This is going back to a 2009 class with Gail Dufresne. In advance of the class I told her to please pull me out of my comfort zone ~ you all know what that is by now. That would be dark earthy colors and antique adaptations.
I was very uncomfortable using bright colors and that color scheme wasn't anywhere in my home in 2009. So with input and ideas from Gail and the group I drew and hooked this rug which I named The Great Escape.
Since this wouldn't fit anywhere in my home it was sold at an Artisans show one year.
Here is a picture of Gail Dufresne, me in the middle and Gail's sister Yvonne Wood.
Gail is an excellent and patient teacher who gives her 'peeps' her all, Yvonne also an excellent hooker. One important thing I learned in the class is stay true to yourself and hook what makes you happy. Try tho I may to hook colors outside my crayola box, it is awkward and not as much fun.
Regarding the previous comment about bright colors being nowhere in my home, there is this rug which I hooked 2014 and is in front of my garden bathtub.
Now that the crispy grass weeds have had a drink of water a day or so ago it is time to cut it once again.

The November camp has 3 teachers with around 10 - 12 in each class. Most all of them have been hooking for a while, yet there is very little participation for the show ~ I've even thought 'why bother taking mine?'
I took all the rugs which were hooked since last November so had about 8 rugs to show, won't bore you with them again since you've seen them over and over during the year. Here are a few of the pieces which were brought and I have no idea who hooked what.
The rug below has a pair of doll glasses on the woman's face which added something special to the rug.
Love how the person hooked the background of the bunny rug.
Hit and miss circles and squares was interesting and good use of worms.
The party cat below was cute.
There were a couple pieces in frames but when I went back to get a photo of them they had been removed.
Here are a few of the in-progress projects some of us were working on in class. Betty Ann was hooking this very handsome goat.
Cathy accomplished a lot on her Harvest Time rug.
Tho the narrow cut piece being hooked by Betty is not something I'd hook but had a great appreciation for it was a beautiful piece of work. The cherry blossoms were proddy and looked real. The Pearl McGowan design underwent a little reworking with the help of Cindy so that Betty could have a good vision on where to hook.
Oysters and More was another project in our class and forget who was hooking it.
Sadly I didn't get a photo of Diane's beautiful owl, Reina's Tiger or Ruth's finished purse. If any of them are following my blog perhaps they will send me a photo so I can add it to the blog.
Here is my Star Geometric which is an antique adaptation. The dimensions are 29 x 32. Haven't worked on it since being home as I'm trying to finish hooking Horses and Hearts rug first.
There wasn't a group 'throw down' as normally happens, but made sure to get a photo of Cheri Reid's rug which was being hooked in another class. Cheri is hooking a life size rug of Marilyn Monroe in the gown she wore singing "happy birthday" to President Kennedy.
This is the photo being used as her guide.
And this is what Cheri has accomplished so far. I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished at Cape May rug camp next September.
Happy hooking.

Had great intentions on posting a blog upon arrival at The Dunes Hotel last Sunday. I'd been able to get my room earlier than expected so took a couple photos with my iPad and sat at the table to type a blog post using Blogpress. No success in the numerous times I tried so will now try to replicate what I think I'd typed.
This is my room all bright and cheery. A bed to sleep in and one to hook on (if I wish) after hours.
All rooms at The Dunes Hotel face the Atlantic Ocean. This is the view from my window and from the balcony. This photo captures a person walking the beach in front of me.
This is a view to the left down the beach and there are mild waves washing in this day but there were bigger waves later in the week which the surfers were wanting.
A look to the right of the balcony and in the distance you can see a group of people enjoying the mild November weather and surfers trying to catch a wave.
My teacher was Kris Miller (who I've enjoyed as a teacher numerous times) was like a kid when she saw dolphins playing in the water. Since she is from the mid-west she doesn't get to see that sort of thing. It was fun to watch the excitement in her face when they would dive out of the water.
Okay, this was planned for the post last Sunday. Sorry I'm so late but will try to pretend this was my first day.
Does anyone know why I couldn't post thru my iPad using Blogpress? Just now checked to see if the posts were saved for me to retrieve them from my PC but nothing there. Then tried to 'save and publish' from Blogpress from home but still didn't work. Any help would be wonderful.
Have a great evening and will continue tomorrow with more from rug camp.

...yup, have mentioned before that going to rug camp is like waiting for Santa.
Just pulled a few more loops on my Out of Hand Challenge rug and need to put it away. Want to pack it up to work on before the teacher gets to me on my next rug. Wanted to get the stepping stones hooked and while waiting for the teacher have several hooking options (the dog, grass, border).
This camp is in Ocean City, MD and we will stay at The Dunes Hotel where all the rooms are facing the ocean. That would be the magnificent big structure to the right.
Below is a view of what I'll see from the sleeping room as well as the classroom in the afternoon. There are rockers on the deck for hooking pleasure during warm balmy evenings. But probably not this weekend.
Teachers this year are: Terri Schaefer, Sibyl Osicka and Lisanne Miller. Lisanne is a primitive teacher and my choice. I've never had a class with her before but my gal pal Evelyn Lawrence has. Am looking forward to the class and seeing all the folks who frequent the same hooking circles.
I'll have my iPad with me at camp, check in and hope to take time to do some blog hopping. However, it always feels like I've lost so much time away from on-line friends once returning home.
See ya later,
