Surprise!

It's another rug show.  Maybe something will inspire your creativity.  This old floral (39 x 40) was given a date between 1850-1899.  It must have been stored away or placed in a low or no activity area as it maintained it's lovely vibrant colors.

Next, a geometric circa 1920 measuring 23 x 38.

I think this landscape is endearing with it's childlike naïve charm.  Said to be hooked early 20th century with dimensions of 19.5 x 35.5.

There's something about Lions, I've hooked 5 rugs with a lion in them.  Of course they don't hold a candle to my love for horses.  Anyhow, this rug has a date of 1857 hooked in it and measures 34.5 x 43.

A recent find and still listed for sale is this nautical 8 point star.  I'm guessing the side border designs are diver down flags.  No date was provided but size is 36 x 52.

Here is a view of the back.

I like this rug with flowers and scrolls, but not enough to hook it.  Think I'm more attracted to the color combo and scrolls than the flowers.  Dated 19th century (24 x 46.5).

Okay, gotta put a horse rug in here.  This one has squirrels (fuzzy tailed rats) in the corners.  Date of 1898 hooked in the rug and measures 26 x 39.5.

RUG SHOW TIME

Will start off with birds on flowers in pot, circa 1900.  It measures 28 x 39.  

Nicely hooked home said to be hooked early 20th century and size of 22 x 36.  Quite a good job I think; look at the value difference which gives the illusion of a porch floor.  As much as I'd love to have a hooked version of my home it's a challenge I'm not willing to take on.

A rather naïve hooked piece which I found interesting.  Notice the photo tab corners, X's for kisses, hearts and diamond shapes.  Perhaps this was a wedding rug?  Or is my romantic side showing 😍.

Another naïve hooked piece with scrolls, polka dots and hit and miss border.

I'm not fond of this rug and have had it on the flash drive for a few months and want to move it to a different folder.  So I'll make you look at it so I don't have to scroll past it each time I look for a rug to show.  It is sea shells and star fish.  Not sure what turns me off about it ~ the shape?  The brown hit and miss?

An apple tree said to be hooked sometime in the 20th century.  Am surprised before the auction house posted a photo of it they didn't clean off the animal hair.  I wouldn't mind if it was my animal's hair but if I was to sell it I'd clean it up.

JUST ANOTHER RUG SHOW

Found some old rugs during my recent search and unfortunately not all provided me with age/date.  So I'll start off with a cat rug which was hooked early 20th century.  Shame the lady didn't pull a couple tails up in the middle of the eyes.  She had some black, and at least it would have given the poor kitty life.

Actually my silly Rottie Panzer would and did chase butterflies and blackbirds.  I recall one time while living in Columbia, MD and walking them at the ballfield he pulled up a wildflower and was taunting his mother Shumba with it enticing her to play.  Another time the poor boy bent down to either sniff or look at a bee and got stung on his nose.  I was scared all night for fear he would have a reaction.  He was the goofiest 'most dangerous' Rottweiler alive, lol.  Below is a photo of Panzer and his mom Shumba playing with a ball they found at the ball field, photo taken 2016.

You know I love horse rugs, but this one does nothing for me; it doesn't have a story.  It is was hooked early 20th century and measures 26.5 x 34.  But it is boring.

This looks familiar and may have been shown before.  But maybe not all my readers have seen it.  Father of his Country, 35.5 x 46.5 and hooked early 20th century.  The rug sold at auction for $830 in 2011.

A lovely log cabin 14" chair pad.  

An intricate floral rug hooked 19th century.  Don't think I'd hook it but IF I did think I'd opt to hook the center part with just a simple border.

RUG SHOW TIME

Don't think many, if any, of the rugs posted here will float your boat but among the rugs recently found these were my pick among the lots.  First is a Shaker rug with horse dated 1840.

A quite faded basket of flowers circa 1890 which measures 30 x 46.5.

A more simple primitive design of the moon and stars dated 1920 with dimensions of 21.5 x 36.5.

This rug of bear cubs is kinda cute because they small baby cubs.  But they grow up to have humongous appetites.  I forget which auction site it was listed on but was only cost $295 including shipping.  But I doubt Cathy would be interested because of her encounters with the grown up species.

This geometric below reminds me of the dna structure chain.  Guess you'll never look at this design the same way again will you, lol.

An unusual coloration of a dog but another example of someone using what they had.  

An old rug with a child holding balloons said to be circa 1925.  

What I found somewhere soon after was this very interesting Charlie Brown applique piece.  I speculate it was an adaptation of the above hooked rug.

That's all folks.  Hope next time I go searching there will be more interesting rugs to show.  Or for sure before I need to draw another for me to hook.  Speaking of hooking ... guess I'd better get back to the Stag because I need something to bind while waiting to have my vehicle in the shop.  Just might need a new ignition.

OLD RUG PICTURES TO SHARE

Other than hooking a rug this is my next favorite thing to do, look for antique rugs and sharing them with you.  Hooked 1878 notice the big horse and small bull.

Two cats hooked with cotton and wool on burlap 24 x 44 circa 1890.

America themed rugs are always a favorite of mine.  I've had a photo of this rug for a while and never posted it as I was afraid it was an antique adaptation.  However, recently found again on an auction site with the following information: Civil War era 1880 hooked with wool and cotton on burlap measuring 25 x 35.  

This next one has a Halloween appeal to me despite it being titled Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.  Size is 43 x 83 and said to be hooked early 20th century.  Goldilocks is barely visible and the bears look like robotic scary creatures to me.

This next one is a bias shirred rug from Maine which I recently drew for a customer.  Not sure the original size but she wanted hers 24 x 36.

Overlapping Circles hooked early 20th century measures 26 x 37.  

ALERT:  Robin, close your eyes as the next rug might bring an onset of ptsd.  Recently found was cats with a ball of yarn measuring 22 x 36 and hooked early 20th century.

What did capture my heart recently was this tattered Lamb Chair pad, 14 x 14.  I've had the photo for a few months and wanted to keep it for myself.  But decided to share it with you.  Right now it is the only thing posted here which steals my heart.

Will continue perusing the internet and my files searching for a design which makes my heart go pitter patter because I'm close to pulling the last loops on Deer and Blue House.  But.....there is still that contrary Comstock to work on.

Last Antique Rug Show of 2020

It has been a while since posting vintage rugs so thought I'd do just one more before the end of the year.  First is a geometric with 4 horses which measures 28 x 41 and located in Pennsylvania. 

This Floral with scrolls is dated between 1890-1920.  No dimensions were provided but the auction house attributed it to the Amish Community using salvaged fabrics and yarn.

A Cat hooked early 20th century measures 28 x 50.

Definitely a primitive naïve 'make-do' hooked Brown Dog from Downingtown, PA.  Documented as being hooked in the1900s measures 20 x 30.

An elaborate landscape measuring 33 x 80 from estate in Boise, Idaho.  Said to be hooked 1880.

For those who like to see the back for true colors, here is the back with its couple repairs.  Appears it hasn't faded all that much over the years.

Below is a hooked terrier with a realistic looking brick border. The rug was hooked early 20th century and measures 20 x 35. 

Two Roosters with scrolls dated 1900 is from the collection of Virginia Ramsey,  it measures 27.5 x 44.5.

Recently I acquired photos of two more Barbara E. Merry rugs I hadn't posted on my blog before.  This one was provided to me by Barbara's great grandson Ryan.  Barbara married William Boulter (Ryan's great grandfather) and the house they lived in until until Mr. Boulter died.

And within the last couple days I discovered another lovely hooked rug by Barbara E. Merry.  Yesterday I sent a FB message to Ryan (the great grandson) and Phil (the grandson) with the photo and a link to where it is for sale.  I wanted to give the family an opportunity to purchase an heirloom before posting it on my blog.  

This is a close up of the center which makes her initials more noticeable.  If you would like to purchase this rug you can find it HERE for a very reasonable price.

Today I'll pull a few loops on my Horse and Scrolls rug and  maybe, just maybe there will also be small project going as well.  Hope you have some happy hooking going on in your home too.
