Choosing Rugs for the Cape May Show

I'm having a problem deciding which rugs to take for the Cape May Rug show.  I hooked a total of 11 rugs and mats during 2019 so those which were hooked previous to the class with Kris September 2019 were in the rug show that year.

Therefore, from September 2019 I hooked 28 rugs/mats not including the two I'm presently working on.  I know there will be a limit on how many each person can have in the show so will need to cull the number down.

This evening I'll show you rugs hooked in 2019 beginning with the one hooked September with Kris Miller.  That delightful rug is a design by Lori Brechlin named Oh Glorious Day.  You can read all about that fun class HERE.  Meanwhile, below is the said rug.
Next one hooked was a design by Folk Art Landing which was modified to suit me.  Name of the design is Friendship Bells.
While deciding what to do next pick a small design from the stash by Tonya Robey called Winter Bloom.  It would go fast and give me something to do while thinking about the next one.
Dead winter I decided to finally hook an antique which had been haunting me for years.  A whale design which I named "Mighty Whale".  You can see my patterns by clicking on the link at the end below my name.  I offer the pattern in two sizes ~ 19.5 x 32 and 24 x 39.
In my next post I'll show rugs hooked during 2020 during more of the 'shut down'.  And as you might expect that was when I was more prolific using up some of my linen and wool.

Today was a delightful day and tomorrow will be a bit windy but still comfortable.  Heard on the local (eastern shore) weather that next week will have abnormal high temperatures for this time of year.  Which means Cape May will be hot and probably humid.  Hopefully the following week (my week) it will be more mild and low humidity.  And please GOD, no hurricane!!!!

Happy hooking and wishing everyone in Cape May a fantastic time.

Friendship Bells Done

Whew, finally Friendship Bell is all bound, for this I used cotton binding tape.
And  the label has even been attached. ~ sorry, the label photo didn't come out very well but I'm not going to take another.  It is a design by Monika Jones of Folk Art Landing; the label shows the one posted on Monika's web site.  I took a few liberties with the design which you might notice.
Was going to wait and post this along with the bound Winter Bloom mat but it has been several days since I posted so thought I'd do one at a time.

Happy hooking.

Hmm, One Row or Two??

The rug is hooked but not steamed or bound yet.  Before it is steamed I need to decide if it needs just one row of brown border or two.  I don't want to overpower the delicateness of the design.
But also don't want to make it seem incomplete.  For sure I wouldn't want a two inch border as that would be too bold.  Instead of hooking a row I just placed a strip of brown wool around the perimeter take a look on my screen.
Well dang, you can see the foundation between the hooked strip and just the wool strip.  So what do you think?  One or two rows?

My Camp Project Still In Progress

Was very lucky to find a pattern by Folk Art Landing on eBay for a song so purchased it even before seeing a finished sample.  Monica Jones has designed numerous wonderful patterns and while it was not something I'd normally hook, was inspired by the design.  And it was kinda small..ish.
After receiving the pattern I went in search for a photo of how Monica hooked it; here's the photo from her web site.
Hmm, I like purple but that purple hurt my eyes and the colors threw my focus off so had no clue how to hook it at camp.

Most definitely I needed my trusty teacher Kris to help me at rug camp with MY colors.  So took my 'go to' colors and we worked with them plus some of her wool.

This is what my rug looks like now.  Still not sure if I'll make it into a BIG pillow or wall hanging in my living room.
If you look closely you will see some creative liberties on design and color to suit my home.

Thanks Kris for your guidance and it is always fun to be in your class.

MISC. Rug Hooking Chit Chat

A few posts ago I told you of my losing a few rug labels I'd printed out.  I know they were printed and cut out but have no idea what happened to them.  And, nope, they never surfaced.  So with enough labels to fill a page I printed out more.
The three labels on the left are for rugs already hooked or in the progress.  Oh Glorious Day design will be hooked at Cape May, the bottom design Friendship Bells will be hooked November.  Because I needed another planned piece for a label I chose the small Tonya Robey pattern I've had for eons.  I figure that could easily be finished in 2019 too.

When hooking an antique adaptation I like to put the original picture on the label as with the hearts and Great Granddaughter's rug.  Otherwise  usually print a picture of the design by the maker of the pattern to show another version other than what I've hooked.

A tutorial of making rug labels can be seen on my blog by clicking HERE.  If you wanted to know my thoughts on cutters, rug frames, etc. all you need to do is type those key words in the space at the top left side of my blog.

On my grocery list today is Glad Press and Seal.  For what you ask?  I've heard that if you press that on the bottom of the rug you're working on, when pulling the rug off the frame it helps prevent loops from being pulled out.  Also, I'm such a slob at meal time there's always salad dressing which doesn't make it to my mouth but makes it to my top.  Now I'll be prepared by pressing some of that on the front of my linen top.

Happy Saturday everyone.

DECEMBER 5th AGAIN??

Yup, comes around once every year like clock work.   Uh, that would be my birthday; won't say how old I am after reading Lauren's (Rugs and Pugs) latest blog post 😀.
So today decided to treat myself to my favorite lunch at a not so local Chinese buffet where I dined on baked salmon, baked tilapia, calamari, broccoli and mushrooms, asparagus, string beans and two kinds of rice.  Yup, all of that went into my belly and I cleaned the plate.  Needless to say tonight's dinner will be salad.  Most would think I'd have nothing.

And, while out and about I picked up a little something to celebrate even more ~ it is that mustard colored wire basket to display more of my rugs.  Am determined to surround myself with the rugs I've created and which give me joy.  Besides, if they are visible I'll be more likely to recycle them on tables and chests more often.
Truth is I started treating myself early in the week buying rug patterns.  What's better is I've gotten all three at a very good price on ebay.  The first is a rug which has been on my 'to do' list for a long time and now won't have to draw it myself.  It is an antique adaptation called Early Farm Scene by Frontier Homestead.
Another design I liked is by Folk Art Landing and was also a bargain.
The other I haven't received yet but is this design by Lori Brechlin and sold by Spruce Ridge Studios.  I see a class with Kris Miller in my future and this is what will be on my frame when that happens.
Having a glass of Cab as I sign off.
