RUG SHOW TIME

There are goodies, some funnies and perhaps some uglies.  But any rug show is a good show in my book.  Easter is very close and found this beautiful hooked rug on Pinterest but don't have a date, sorry.  Usually when finding things on Pinterest I try to backtrack to the original source which is usually an auction site for info, not this time.  Am sure Janice will love this one.
This whimsical duck rug (22 x 36.5) is from the collection of Drs Hill and George Waynick.  No date was provided but think it may be a Canadian hooked piece.
The rug below was said to be hooked in the 1900's but don't know if early or late.  It's sweet and would have made an adorable rug for a child's room.
Very primitive cat rug below looks old to me but have no date to confirm that.  Poor kitties look so forlorn and all I could think of, IF I was to give it a name, would be "Pete and Repete".
This one below is from Fiddlers Antiques which I found on Facebook.
What animal do you think this is shown below?  I think it has the body of a horse.  The auction house is advertising it as "standing dog eating a bone".  Was written to be hooked mid 20th century.  Doesn't look like any dog I've ever seen.
A floral found on Fiddler's Antique shop.
Two grey cats from the same Antique shop.
The horse rug is a new addition to the on-line auction house offerings.  Hooked sometime in the 20th century and dimensions are 24 x 38.
The rubber ducky rug brings back memories of Barb Carroll's Koi pond filled with rubber ducks a bunch of us purchased.  Here is said rug:
Here is a photo of Barb's duck filled Koi pond:
Last but not least....a week or so ago I posted the photo of a cat the auction house named Racoon Cat.  Someone could have gotten a great deal because I watched the count down to seconds and the price remained at $50.  There were many watchers so maybe at the last second someone came in with a higher bid but photo removed before final price was posted.  Bet it was still a very good deal.

Finally having my taxes done today.  Was waiting for a 1099 from my bank and after making calls the document finally arrived.

Happy hooking.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF FIBER

Starting with a blank flash drive and saving rugs as I see them.  This rooster below was a new listing but they provided no other information except the starting bid.  Perhaps if I'd inquired they would have given the info to me but I wasn't planning on buying.
A central horse which is hard to see, with diamond border hooked 1870's found in the New England area measures 40 x 75.
This hit and miss geometric is dated 1912 in the corner.  Dimensions are 44 x 55.
The Minute Man rug, circa 1900 is 20 x 34.5.
I love the winter scene below but have no information as to date or size.  Someone recently posted a photo of their progress hooking this design on FB and she is doing a fabulous job.
This stag rug was hooked in Waldoboro style but no other info.
Only info gleaned about the winter cabin below is that it is from Quebec, Canada.
A woman baking bread in an outdoor oven, hooked in the 1900s measures 19.5 x 23.5.
I became interested in learning about such a thing of the past and found this photo of a woman baking bread in Quebec.  Interesting the historical things I've learned thru rug hooking.
Snow is in my forecast, just another form of water.  Stay warm and happy hooking.

Favorites Not Yet Hooked

I just scrolled thru my saved photos of antique rugs I've replicated and counted 56.  Some were small mats, some medium size and a couple large.  Some patterns were drawn by other people and many drawn by me.  But that 'want to hook' list doesn't seem to end, as there's always another added.

On my to hook list for a few years is this antique Horse (22 x 35).  If I do hook it think I'd change that green to maybe a dark blue or black.
The Reclining Lamb has been on that list but the flame has diminished somewhat on it to make room for others going to the top.
Another on the list for a few years is the rug below with chickens  and geese.  Believe it or not it sold for $4,994 and dimensions are 24 x 41.
The wool hooked and shirred rug below sold for $10,073 and measures 31 x 44.  I've had it in my file since 2014 and is also new on my 'to hook' list. I'd want different colors so would surely want a teacher to help with color planning it.
Have had this photo of Basket of Flowers since 2019 but all of a sudden it seemed more interesting and making it on the list for the first time.  The original antique measures 27 x 55.

I've been intrigued by the design of Cogswell's Grant but don't have confidence in my color planning for it.  So it would be a rug to hook with a teacher also.   The original antique measures 28 x 39.
A new love interest is folk art horse which was found February 2022 and measures 36.5 x 52.  Of course if I were to draw it for me it wouldn't be that big.
Rooster, Berries and Hearts rug was hooked 1800's but don't have the dimensions for it.  I like this a lot too and will be among those favorites.
I drew a version of this 1907 Eagle rug for someone and she wanted the leaves and crosses removed.  It sorta looked interesting to hook then but isn't at the top of the list.
Guess I'd better get off'n this contraption so I can draw another Mache' Jacks pattern for someone.  Hope you enjoy what you're working on and have a great weekend.  Thankfully today the temperature is going to reach 65* which is more normal for us here this time of year.  I even turned the heat off but might need to turn it on before going to bed.

Antique Rug Show

My search for new blood a new rug for me to hook is rather slim pick'ns now.  But will keep looking and posting what is found for you to enjoy.  And might even have to go back into the archive antique rug photos to see if any of the past light my fire.  So on with the show....the rug below has nice fall colors with an eye appealing hit and miss background.
This floral seat cover is yarn sewn & clipped.   Dimensions are 16 x 18 and  hooked mid 19th century.
Okay, now this one did jump started my heart a bit.  Described as a Folk Art Farm measuring 33 x 42 from 19th century.  Cannot remember where I found it so don't know where to go researching again.  Just wish this was a better and more complete picture.
Below is a rug which Barb Carroll owned and she named it
Cora and Bentley because of the initials at the bottom.
A strange looking cat but I like the cat and background colors.  Wonder what it is about those odd colors that gets my attention?  It measures 14.5 x 23.
I often see peoples' adaptations of this Cogswells Grant design showing up on FB.  The original measured 31 x 45 and was a gift to the museum by Bertram and Nina Fletcher Little.  Rug dated 1890-1925.
I rather like this Rooster, Berries and Hearts rug dated in the 1800's.  The monochromatic rugs are nice on the eyes and look old.
And lastly, a Dog rug measuring 33 x 48 and said to be hooked late 19th early 20th century.
Perhaps I do have some descent designs to choose from, but none so far make me want to draw them out right away.

Happy hooking and hope the few who are joining in the fun challenge are making headway.

UPDATE and RUG HOOKERS PSA

I'm excited to show you an update on Magdalena's Rooster, Duck Horse rug.  Boy you should see the rats nest I've made around me as I hook.  Actually have shown you that before when working on a rug but think it might be a naturally occurring event for us rug hookers?  Please tell me it's normal. 😐

Will work on the hit and miss background down to the horse then finish the horse.  In case you're wondering, I haven't decided what to hook next as I'm busy with the occasional binding of Ox Farm and hooking this rug.  And would really like for this one to be hooked and bound before Cape May in September.
Now for the rug hookers Public Service Announcement:  USPS postal rates are going to increase AGAIN August 29th.

So incase you've been contemplating buying wool, patterns, foundation etc. I'd suggest you get that done soon.  At least you will save a little this month but plan to spend more beginning September.  Oh, and have you heard USPS plans to slow down mail delivery too.  Yup heard that on the news.  Their slow mail delivery was originally blamed on Covid but maybe it was another problem which is continuing.

To take advantage of the present postal costs I've ordered a bolt of linen from Dorr today and wanted to place an order for wool from Rebecca but she is on her way to Sauder to vend.  She will be back in time for me to place an order before priority goes up again.  You're welcome rug hookers.

My Next Plus One

The Ox Farm isn't done yet but as the Thin Blue Line is all hooked (not bound yet tho) I'll need a 'plus one' to work on or at least have ready to go in a nanosecond.  I've decided what that one is ~ Magdalena Briner Eby's Rooster, Duck and Horse is what I'm going to work on in tandem.
This is an old photo of the original rug and the dimensions were written on the back of the photo.  I've enlarged my rug to 25 x 30 and that will be plenty large for me ~ the original rug measured 30 x 36.

At the time of the printing of Magdalena's story that rug was the newest find.
Since then Magdalena's Goat was located on an auction site and Lititz Hens was also discovered.  Wonder how many more of her rugs are out there decorating someone's walls we don't know about?
