The other day I thought back to my childhood and remembered our Easter traditions. One such tradition was going to Church in the morning, a normal Sunday event, not just holidays. Mother and I would be in our new Easter outfit which included gloves worn in the early 50's and a new Easter bonnet.
After church we made our way to Rehoboth Beach, DE to watch the Easter Parade on the boardwalk. There many other people there enjoying the holiday tradition who were also wearing their Easter finery. Wish I had a photo to share but sadly it is just a fond memory.

Happy, Happy, Easter Saundra. We had no fancy Easter outfits, but, yes, church was a given...every Sunday. But Easter - ahh, now that was special. Saturday nights bath, the Easter special Ed Sullivan show, and then bright and early church and home to scavenge for the baskets. Our baskets were simple, I suppose, by most standards but, somehow, my mom always managed to find some "unique" candies that one didn't see in the store everyday and that only the Easter Bunny could have brought. And I don't even want to think about how late she stayed up coloring dozens and dozens of eggs to arrange in the huge basket for the dining table. ReplyDeleteI loved getting all dressed up for Easter , pretty new patent leather shoes , a pretty little purse with fake flowers on it , new white gloves ( which I saved ) and an Easter Hat my brothers would take from me & I would cry chasing after them ....LOL A Big Chocolate Bunny that would be missing his tail or an ear if I didn't quick eat those !!

My mom was so frugal that we always got our French chocolate Easter egg from the local candy store the day after when they were half price ;-)

Those traditions sound all so familiar. Wore my new shoes, pretty patten leather shoes and of course a straw hat. She was a single mom with not much money but worked hard all her life. Those chocolate bunnies were the best. Thanks for the memories.

I,too, have been thinking about the Easter traditions of my childhood days. I always had a new dress, handmade by my mom, of course. I think I liked best the chocolate bunnies from Mom's old molds. I hope you are having a great Easter Sunday. ~Mary @ Hillop Post

I've been sick in bed for a few days. I'm on the mend. I love your Easter memories of your tradition. My family always celebrated Easter with going to church and then we had those colorful hard chocolates. My mom always had lots of food and there was always some pies and cakes. We were such a large family so there were no new outfits for us, but I remember the happy time with the family.
